Now that the edit is released, I can finally leave a proper comment! But before I respond, I just want to reiterate how thankful I am for you doing this. I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the experience, and I hope other people do as well! I can confirm, no notecards were used in planning out this edit. A lot of these ideas and their application came to me while I was at work, wishing desperately to be editing. There is *certainly* inspiration from the Trevorrow script all throughout this edit. I will site that script along with the TFA and TLJ novels as evidence that there was a communicative effort in making this trilogy. Maybe not as much as some people think there should have been but I have found they’re not taking into the organic, living process that goes into making a film. ---------------------- SPOILER SECTION Head-canon, those soldiers are First Order MP’s. I’m so glad you picked up on the idea that the opening was building off of the events of TLJ. I also wanted to show the galaxy in a way we’ve never seen it; we know how Palpatine l runs things, which is probably how Snoke would run things, but an empire under Vader or, in this case Kylo, is unfamiliar to us and I wanted the audience to see it. The scene is also to help explain how the Resistance has managed to rebuild. Just want to clarify, the new voices were a mix of AI and voice acting but the one new line for Leia, was pulled from the movie “Fanboys,” where she played a doctor telling a man with cancer “he needs to go home” I hope one day I can replace the shot of Rey’s arm in the vision of her parents with that of a child instead of Daisy Ridley Maybe one day we’ll get a version of Episode 9 where Chewie dies in the explosion. I brought Phasma back to give just a little bit of resolution to Finn. Wasn’t much I could do but he needs it. She was voiced using lines from Battlefront 2 (the second I heard her say “The term in ‘battle-scarred” I knew I wanted to bring her back) as well as two synthed lines using the battlefront audio for the model. There was something with Phasma I was hoping to have done for this edit but it didn’t pan out like I wanted it to. Maybe some day 😉 The Goonies dagger bothers me not because the ruins would have eroded (I am pretty sure the metal used to make the death star wouldn’t erode under those conditions) what bothers me is that there is apparently only ONE section of ruins that fits in the dagger and thankfully it’s still visible at high tide. Yeah Poe and Finn’s departure was a matter of available footage, but I have some ideas on how I might get around that if I ever do a V2. Using Morrison audio from Bounty Hunter (2002) and Battlefront (2004) for the Sith troopers has been an idea I’ve been pushing for since 2019. Even if there were no other references to clones, I wanted to do that because it immediate informs the audience “who is this soldier and where did he come from?” Without Palpatine there’s really nothing redeeming about Kylo in this film. Though, that could be argued about the versions of the film *with* Palpatine as well. A little surprised you didn’t mention the Rose speech but that’s neither here nor there. ---------------------- I’ve already told you this but GREAT review, guy! You did an amazing job. Over all, this has to be the best edit I have seen of Ep9. Do you mind if I ask a question? Finn and Poe leave on the Falcon before Rey gets to the wayfinder on the DS. So, how did they know how to get to Exegol?

I appreciate that! This whole thing was a really fun experience! The Rose speech - I dunno, maybe it’s because the video was so long already? But I think what happened to Kelly Marie Tran was just awful - not only did the fans deride her constantly for doing her JOB, but then Abrams and Terrio turn around and almost vindicate the people that bullied her by giving her nothing to do in Rise. It was one of the more sickening things that happened that made me think that yes, they literally went down a couple of threads on Reddit to come up with their script. I like that you make her an integral part of the future of the NewNew Republic. The notecards thing was more illustrative than anything (it also helps me when I’m writing). But yeah, man - hope to see more from you in the future (even a V2!)

Watched the edit last night. Didn't care much for the first scene or the last scene. And you are right about the audio problems. But the way Palpatine has been removed and the narrative reworked is very impressive.

Understandable, of course, but yes…it was almost as if it was originally planned and filmed that way (of course, it wasn’t), but that’s a testament to his work!

Great video! Has really hyped me up to wanting to see this edit. I've actually been working on my own one that combines all 3 movies into one under 3 hour movie. Is that the kind of thing you'd be interested in watching?

As a day one Star Wars fan and editor myself I watched many edits too. Yet, I didn't like it. But that's just my opinion about it. I edited Indiana Jones and the Kingdom the Crystal Skull, A New Hope, The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker to my own liking and clearly have a different vision on things.

I can see that - I mean, it’s all subjective. There’s also only so much you can do without, you know, reshoots with the original actors. But that’s the great thing about fan-edits! You can either find one that fits you best or, as you did, just do it yourself!

I flet the new voice from the Hunger Games stormtroopers and the rebels shouting "For Skywalker!" sounds too much like ADR and the editing is quite jank in places. I would recommend checking fanedits for other 80s and 90s movies too. Not all of them is on the fanedit site and located in the place with the word that KZread seriously doesn't like in comments which rhymes with "red" and "did". There are tons of RoboCop fanedits recently, Spicediver's Dune (which can be found on YT), slasher movies and fantasy movies (The Neverending Story, Conan, etc.) you can cover though I'm just not sure if some of those are genres you're interested.

No, I thank you for that - I do get a lot of requests, and I let them pile up (which I probably shouldn’t do). It’s almost like I let the urge to watch them go for a while, then I’m like “I want to watch fan-edits!” and then I binge them and I get sick of them again! 😁 I should probably look into those you mentioned - that could be interesting!

The fan-edits of disney episodes 7, 8, and 9 are just putting on 4, 5, and 6.
