One of the best movie documentaries EVER! | RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop Review!

Фильм және анимация

RoboCop is a classic 80s movie, so when I heard (years late) that there was a documentary that almost goes into what it took scene-by-scene to get this made...I had to check it out! Enjoy!

The 80s was the decade for sci-fi films also. But yeah, we Brits 🇬🇧 always do things throughly! Iol. I just recently heard about this documentary myself, and it's definitely one I'm picking up being a fan of Robocop.

I want to check it out, I especially want to see how they filmed the Ed 209 demonstration scene. Why Dick decided to put live rounds and not blanks in that thing is arrogant to say the least, and his heartless reaction to the violent death of Mr. Kenny with “I’m sure it’s just a minor glitch.” It’s so absurd it’s entertaining.

It’s really cool how all of that was filmed and how dialing back a bit on it made it more horrific for the theatrical release. If you’re a fan of this movie and you enjoy learning about how movies are made, it’s a must see!

If it's 5 hours but only one disc, it's possible that (perhaps for a better quality picture) they divided it over 2 discs in the U.k if so you have the whole thing The 4 hour JUSTICE LEAGUE film is spread over 2 discs, BUT you can also get the 2 hour version & I like both.

Yeah, I just know that the UK version has an extra hour of content. I’m not sure how they split the content over the two discs, but I’m a little bummed that I can’t see that extra hour. And the UK version is region B locked, so…

4:49 _It's almost what, 5 hours?_ Believe it or not, I expected it to be even longer. Since Amazon Prime Video listed the 4 episodes under Season 1, me being a once in a blue moon user of a streaming service, I assumed more seasons were to follow and just as exhaustively cover the two sequels. My only wish was that the notoriously reclusive and interview-shy Rob Bottin was there. (I hear he moved to another part of the world, underwent gender re-assignment and now lives as a woman with her eleven cats - JK!😁)

@@order42showjust as a side bar.... In the opening credits for robodoc there's a credit for the musical artist named New Arcades. They are a part of a whole thing called Synthwave, not sure if your aware of that music scene or not. It's based mainly around the 80's and it's not re-make music...for the most part...there is some of that...most of the remakes suck though...of course! But it takes 80's themes from movies...ridley Scott movie themes and so forth and re-envisions them into new music.... The result is awesome. Just aside bar in case you might be interested.

Aparently, there was an original much less comprehensive version of this behind the scenes documentry, which owners (in the U.K) were not impressed by, so they said even disapointed . Which may be the version you own. When I looked on Amazon for it, it had already been withdrawn, BUT was going to be re-released in a more comprehensive version, which is probably the 2 disc that you mention. I knew some time ago about a ROBODOC documentry as there were clips here on you tube interviewing the 2 makers, but I wasnt sold on their being much more than had already put out, plus ALL the actors were speaking many years after the film's release, perhaps you can tell me if their is much more on the design & build of the actual costume, itself, because that is what would be my reason for buying ROBODOC It also seemed that Peter Weller himself didnt want to comment much more on the film feeling he had said it all before.

The 2 disc is region B locked, which means you’d need a region free player if you’re not in the UK. I’m bummed I can’t see the extra hour on the UK version, but what I got was fantastic and really comprehensive. And I don’t know about anyone else, but for me, I LOVE it when you get a fresh perspective years after a movie’s release, and this is just awesome hearing what the cast and crew have to say, including Weller. It’s a fantastic doc!

Can you clarify a bit please? Did you try playing the RoboDoc UK 2 Discs on a Region A (North American) Bluray player and they did not play? Because I'm confused by what you said. Others said it was NOT Region Locked...i.e. they are Region Free.

On Diabolikdvd.com, it says that the UK version is region B. I didn’t realize until after I purchased mine off of Amazon that the UK version had extra stuff on an additional disc. What I meant was that when I bought other UK releases (because they were cool or whatever), I’ve had to rip them. I did NOT buy the UK version of RoboDoc.

I'm not so sure about 80s violence being more than 70s In the 70s there was - DIRTY HARRY, & it's violent sequel MAGNUM FORCE and ENFORCER, ALSO the FRENCH CONNECTION, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, STRAW DOGS, THE WARRIORS, DEATH WISH , WEST WORLD and others

@@nigeldonaldson1647 I still disagree...if you are talking about fist fights, gun violence, kicking...the 80s is still more violent in those aspects than the 70s. Commando, Rambo, Predator, The Running Man...to name a few examples.

"Your move Creep!" Judge Dredd. 😉 They only slightly hint at the fact it was a complete DREDD rip off. They didn't even have th balls to own up to it. Although in interviews from the 80s they did. I love RoboCop but should have acknowledged it's strong influence. Disappointing they didn't.

No. They ripped off a lot of his sayings also. Dead or alive.....your move Creep. Also you can see very briefly the First design idea for RoboCop shows clearly Dredds helmet. They hint at it writer says " I read lots of comics" yeah.....Dredd in 2000AD. RoboCop started as a Dredd film yet rights couldn't be got so created their own. Wish I still knew where the interview is where they admit it. Think may be on one of the early dvds. @@order42show
