    It's why I have my keys attached to the shoulder of my backpack on a carabiner, along with my bus pass, because I'm always taking it with me. Inside are always medications I might need, a snack or 2, and unless it's charging a portable battery and cable. Plus my wallet is attached to my belt, which is always attached to the pants I'm wearing until I decide to put new ones on. Headphones are in the top left pocket, vape in the lower left pocket, wallet in the right lower pocket. Hat and mitts I try to keep in my jacket pocket.

    @FenrirAldebrand -- Very similar for me. I have one of those zip-closed mini-tool pouches (pretty indestructable unlike a fannypack, which was important when I worked outdoors). Which I loop one of those long heavy-duty wallet-pocket metal chains through so I can wear it like a belt or clip it to my workpants. Holds the essentials like my ID, keys, wallet etc., isn't easily broken or damaged, and I can hang it on my doorknob so I can't leave without noticing it as it rattles against the door if I try to open the door without removing it. The only routine I have to remember is to take it with me whenever I leave and put it back when I return, which has become the last/first thing I do, respectively. Even when my brain is otherwise MIA and I'm going on automatic muscle memory mode, I will at least have access to my money, my ID and my own car/home keys. . The little bag with emg "I got unexpectedly stuck overnight somewhere" medications, portable battery and phone charger live on the table by the door. No need to locate them and remember to add them the night before/morning of, since that's always where they are. . Making as many things automatic, routine and pre-prep'd as possible really spares our brains from having to manually apply focusing energy we may not have very much of on any given day. It helps reduce the odds of bad days becoming worse by keeping us from regularly being at high risk of things like locking ourselves out or not having any money on us.

    This is why I incorporate as many things as possible into my routine. It becomes something you do on auto pilot, that doesn't require thought. It just happens. It takes repeated failed attempts to stick, to be part of that routine. But eventually it does. You can't create a routine out of thin air. You start with one thing, then you add to it. I've moved 3 times in 6 months, it takes a long time rebuild it, but I often carry on with outdated routines, long after they're relevant in a new home, or job. This is because it still gives structure and enables me to function, even if its a bit odd.

    Ok so I have something kind of like this. I always have kits for everything. I used to forget lunch for work/school. Or I would forget to brush my teeth or comb my hair. So I have an MRE in my toolbox at work. I get picked on for it but they don’t understand. I used to have a pill fob full of cash on my keychain because I used to run out of cash. Back when I worked as a server when I got paid on cash. I was always trying to make kits for everything. I had disposable hygiene kits I made up because I wanted it to be a grab and go item. Chuck it in a bag and not think about if I forgot something. I sadly have learned to go overboard by overpacking too many of the same things because I’m afraid I’ll forget or not have enough. So I pack too much stuff.

    I mean, she's got planning down to an art in that house to. With schedules for the kids and stuff. Little harder to do when you do laundry when you've "run out of underwear" like I do 😅. However, you could use laundry as your cue, have a certain number of things in that space, or a small laundry basket next to that space, so when it is full, just wash and replace the exact same things?

    "Hanging things on the wall" is our friend! This is the opposite of "out of sight (in a drawer and since I can't see it, I can't find it), out of mind". Plus it makes it convenient to grab-and-go and get-back-put-back things, which helps build routines that don't require us to be on "manual mode" with our often limited energy and ability to utilize our focus and working memory.

  • @waffles3629

    Yep. Also if I have to perform 4 steps to put something away just so I can reverse those steps to get it back out the next morning- I'm not doing it. Yeah, my doors and walls are now covered in hooks. My weekly wear/use clothes and other washables I don't care about being wrinkly live between a clean and dirty laundry basket so I can see what I have left (ok, realistically so I can see how much clean underwear I have left).

    These ADHD hacks are so cool but so many of them make a space feel cluttered and I live in a small home my entryway couldn't even fit half of this furniture I mean it's two doors and two stairs and the landing is tiny with about probably barley 10in deep where you can place furniture without it being in the walkway.

  • @lisab.1912
    @lisab.1912Ай бұрын

    This is fantastic. MY only issue is that it would become the "landing place" for random items I need to "temporarily" place there (and I would ultimately forget about it and walk away). Then, I'd have this cluttered, disorganized "representation of my mental status" on display for anyone who comes to my house. 😂 One of these days I WILL learn to be organized. That's what I've been telling myself anyway. Seriously though, this is a FANTASTIC idea if one is disciplined enough to manage it. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    I have pockets in my coat or bag where the same things ALWAYS go. If I change coat or bag, everything in the previous coat or bag goes into the equivalent pockets in the other one. Therefore, I always know how to check very quickly whether I have everything and I know if I do pretty much straightaway. Ie: Left hand should be feeling phone in pocket, right hand should be feeling keys, wallet and vaseline. Outer bag zip pocket should contain my work entry pass and meds. Inner pocket has plasters, antihistamines, etc.

    Maybe it could also be a checklist by the door? Or what I do is I always place my bag and my calendar in their owns spots in my room. And before leaving or in the evening I make sure everything I need is packed in the bag. The items have their own places in the bag, and I can always see the inside of the bag so it's easy to check if anything's missing.
