I think if you offer the popcorn, you can't really dictate how much the person takes, otherwise its just a hollow gesture. If you offer without specifying, then however much the person takes in one go is fair game. If the person requests some of your popcorn, that's different.

One trouble with later series of Curb is it goes from 0-60 too quickly. In earlier seasons LD would have allowed this to build. Instead the scene is contrived and simply absurd, his acting now ridiculously mannered and the whole thing feels more like a sitcom.

I agree. The earlier seasons felt a lot more realistic and less like a sitcom. The build up was gradual so the impact of these moments (often at the end of the episode) was much greater and the wait for them had paid off eg. the ending of the Doll and Kamikaze Bingo episodes. Now these moments occur so frequently and often develop absurdly quickly to the point it’s cringey. I feel like the show slowly became a parody of itself.
