I saw the "offended by LD's opening monologue on snl..." and came to yt to watch it. Umm. Seriously people?! And even more so - why am I still surprised by -people's- American's ability to be offended by ridiculous, inconsequential things? I've said for, hell, well over a decade now? forget baseball and apple pie, being offended over petty, stupid shit is now the American pastime/Americana. Being offended doesn't make you right. Save being offended for actual things. Like maybe the *real* issues LD jokes about here? And yes, humor is an important part of the healing process. Are we so far removed, time wise, from the up-swell of the rape culture being revealed in such a high profile way to want healing? Absolutely not. Will humor reel in some of the anger enough to actually deal with it in a rational manor? I think so. And, again yes, I say this as both an American and a person who was raped as a child. Fight the good fight, people. Not the showy, and quite frankly, _self_ serving one.

@@zephead4835 look into SNL commentaries/stories. Comedian hosts/cast members often complain that the live audience is filled with tourists while the local audience tends to attend dress (since it doesn't require the same booking hoops and they just want a crowd). All the ones that commented on the audience have remarked on the difference and the preference towards the more comedy-oriented vs celebrity oriented audience.

As a Jew, I can rest assure those who think they need to be offended on my behalf, I found it somewhat humorous and, at most, a little shocking. Not at all offensive. He's Jewish, he understands the severity of the Holocaust, he knew where to draw the line and just how far he could cross over it. In fact, this was quite tame in comparison to his usual stuff. I'm hearing about all this ridiculous controversy over this very much benign bit and it reminds me of a Instagram post from a few years back that said, "Don't call a Jewish person a Jew because it's offensive." One of the dumbest things I've ever read in my life and most definitely not written by an actual Jewish person. Lesson to be learned: yes, there are insensitive and ignorant things people shouldn't say, but that doesn't mean get mad at humor because it does exactly what humor is supposed to do, shock the audience.

The thing about Sephardi Jews is that most families have been incorporated into the common Iberian locals. This means a lot of typical Iberian last names are from Sephardi origin. Here a Spanish website www.tarbutsefarad.com/apellidos-judios/lista-apellidos-judios.html tap on the letter S and you will read Silva there
