@@antuliohot Have you ever heard him take a solo he didn't try to turn into "see how high I can play?" - i.e. exactly like he does here. If he didn't have the "I defected from Cuba" backstory and Dizzy's blessing not sure he would have gotten much attention. There's better high-note players, there's better jazzers, there's certainly better classical players. Ever heard his "Trumpet Evolution" CD? For a guy who constantly tries to show off his high playing he does a really mediocre job on "Maynard Ferguson" which captures none of what Maynard brought to it. Doc in his prime was an amazing player - I don't think Arturo is in the same league. Arturo couldn't do this if his life depended on it kzread.info/dash/bejne/gYyLudWmZs_Thpc.html

You lot all talk sh1t. Clearly jealous. I was a student in England on holiday in Miami and I happen to just phone up Arturo’s manager’s number that was in the back of one of his CD’s and we went to the downtown office, got picked up by his wife Marienella and taken back to his house. He bought me and my mate lunch and he was letting some students of FIU record at his house that day. He’d just got back from a European tour and was shattered and was the nicest bloke ever and was even more my hero after that. Arturo was great friends with Maynard and is with Doc… as for that link above to say Arturo couldn’t play that you must be stupid.

We live in a suburb 35 miles SW of Chicago. Takes 2+ hours there and back. Doc had a beautiful jacket with an Embroidered and Bejeweled Trumpet on the Back of it. My dad raised me on Jazz and was a drummer for many years. Years later we still were talking about that concert and Docs jacket!

The only thing that comes close is an old vinyl LP from back in the 1960’s called ‘Tutti’s Trumpets’. Tutti Camaratta produced the album featuring Conrad Gozzo, Pete and Conti Candoli, and other great horn men of that time. These guys Doc Severinsen got together are sure no slouches. They’re way up in the danger of stroke, molar crowns coming off, or double hernia register. Sorry Doc himself is getting up there in years. Thanks for the post.

It's been forty years since I discovered and love LE Jazz, this jazz that swings under the talent of Duke, Lionel Hampton, Count de Basie, Louis Arsmtrong ... member of the Hot Club de Limoges between the 80s and 2000, I had the chance to participate in the weekly meetings organized by and at Jean Marie Masse* every Saturday evening with about fifteen other 'faithful' of the pope of Limougeaud jazz*, he made me discover all the great jazzmen black Americans including Duke Ellington whose anthology record recorded in 1957 and live on a Friday evening in Carroltown, that evening the Duke orchestra was so relaxed that it can be heard and perceived when listening to the album . An mythical album, an anthology album, I would even dare to say Duke's ALBUM.
