Content creation is hard! And sometimes the most well-planned ventures end up falling apart completely. During my recent trip to LA, I had plans to record some content of the Brevite Jumper everyday carry bag, but one misstep ruined the entire plan.

Great video showing that things will not go as planned. Thanks for not being afraid to show, the mishaps that we have.

I like the creative direction of this video and the moral of the story - it doesn’t always go the way we want even if well planned, but it’s alright!

And I was so annoyed with myself because I could have slept in had I known everything was gonna fall apart 😂 but I do want to show both sides of the coin on this channel because the truth is, there will likely be way more failures than there are successes, and we have to lean, improve, and keep moving forward! I appreciate you watching and commenting.

Your video really captivated me right from the start! from the car door opening to the shots you took on the road, both inside and outside the vehicle, very creative. I'm definitely going to use similar shots on my next road trip. I like the way you used the hyperlaspse as well. Great job!. Im a new sub. Take care and remember what Jim Rohn said, 'Either you run the day or the day runs you.' Keep up the fantastic work!

And I’m usually the opposite, always on time! But there was things I needed to do the night before that I didn’t, so I had to do them the morning of, and there lies the first domino that fell. 😂

Bruh, the amount of footage I’ve recorded that has never seen the light of day is staggering! At this point I may have to make a video going through all the footage 😂

Did you happen to come up with a plan number 2, to get some footage if your next video doesn't pan out, then you have some backup footage? If you had brought a small light and found a little bit of shade (which looks like it was few and far between) would you have been able to make something work? I'm always looking for ways to just make it work, regardless of the scenario. And sometimes I totally get stuck. Brutally stuck. And nothing seems to work. But I can't help but to think there may have been SOMETHING I could have done to change that outcome after everything already went wrong, or failed. Just a mental debrief of the situation to correct it if all that stuff goes wrong again. Or maybe a client is ONLY able to shoot in that situation, and what can I do?

There was no salvaging that expedition, lol. The sun faces the cliff, so there was absolutely no shade anywhere (which I knew, I've been to that location dozens of times when I lived in LA). On top of that, it was high tide, which I knew it would be, but it was higher than I had anticipated. That area that you see in the video was the only usable spot, and it really wasn't enough to do what I was planning to do. I also try to make the best of situations and get *something*, but the truth is, there wasn't a way to make it work with the light I had. With photography and videography, light makes and breaks, and you can't overcome bad light with "great" filming; that bad light will still produce something that could be much better. The only way to work with that light was to have a big scrim, and that simply wouldn't have been practical filming by myself, and I also was pressed for time. I got to that spot close to 9a, I had to be back on the road no later than 11a. My original plan had me there at 7a, which would have given me nice, softish golden light. I still would have had the high tide to contend with, but I could have figured out alternatives to the shots I had in mind. All in all, sometimes there is no plan B for what you're trying to get. If I were shooting a portrait and I forgot my modifier, I could pivot and shoot hard light, but if the plan was to get a look that only a modifier can provide, shooting with hard light doesn't satisfy that, and if you have no desire to have a portrait with hard light, it doesn't make much sense to shoot it either. I have enough data on hard drives that have never seen the light of day, lol. As for the reshoot though, it's a non-issue here at home. I have the flexibility of time and gear at my disposal. In hindsight what I should have done was drive to LA Friday evening, then I could have got up early Saturday morning and been to that spot before sunrise. Live and learn, lol.
