Truth. Nothing replaces “time in chair.”

In Morse code school, some were naturally gifted and sailed through. Others struggled and struggled to various lengths. Some washed out and were reassigned. And then those that persevered, made good cw ops.

Josh nailed it, like Ringo Starr said, "You've got to pay your dues if you're going to sing the Blues."

Good one... And yes, back in the '80s I tried to use sleep hypnosis to learn Morse code. Did not work

I look at CW like learning a foreign language. Some people can speak two, three or more languages equally as well, I cannot. So CW is work, practice, and repetition. Simple as that.

If you learn cw at a young age it is about 100 times easier than as an adult. Prove me wrong, show me someone who learned cw after age 30 who can compete in the big cw contests with the OTs who learned as kids. Same for playing a musical instrument, same for learning a foreign language. I'm not talking about getting to where you can limp along at 10 wpm with a straight key, I mean becoming really competent.

It's not exactly that. It's "Time put in." An old timer might have 40 years of practice by the time a 30-year-old turns 31. the OT'er maybe 55 years old and have over 40 years of practice.
