One amp to rule them all? Most versatile Amp in the World?

Музыка

Do we really need a unit with 900 amps and 400 different guitar effects? or do we need just one amp to rule them all? This is the question that's been dogging us for ever. So sit back and lets see if the Laney GH30r and a handful of pedals are the answer to all our dreams.

I just bought a GH30R-112. It's amazing. It's incredibly versatile and I could tweak the settings for hours. There are so many great tones out of this amp. They are discontinued so if you have the opportunity to pick one up don't pass it by.

I ALMOST second this. Never got the chance to try the new GH's yet, but the VH100R is the best, most versatile amp I've ever played.

Laney is one of those brands that everyone seems to love but I hardly ever see people in big and local bands play them. The amps I regret getting rid of the most are my rockerverb and a laney vc50 combo.

Seems bizarre to get a Laney, capable of huge amounts of gain and supposedly able to radically mix pre and power amp gain then spend the whole video using pedals through the clean channel. I see what you were getting at but still don’t have a clue what the Laney actually sounds like. You could have done this with a Peavey Classic 30 or most any budget valve amp with a clean channel. Having said that it doesn’t say Laney GH30R in your title but it came up when I searched for it so you’re all good mate.

I’ll say this, the Axe Fx 3 I got at the cost of my sacred Triple Rectifier-which was quite versatile in its own right-is great and all for sure, but no modeler can give you that magic feeling that real tubes give. It’s just not currently possible! I’m sick of people trying to say it is honestly. There’s something very valuable, visceral, and organic between your fingers, tubes, cab, and ears that digital can’t do because it’s fake. Since I went with an AxeFX I cannot seem to just jam the way I used to. The only way I truly appreciate and enjoy it is if I have a specific purpose in mind, like sounding like AC/DC or something. Otherwise it’s endless choices and tinkering rather than rolling 2-3 knobs and playing away, and *feeling* what you’re playing. Ugh. I’m seeking a tube amp to get that back asap.

This was a disappointing demo. I've got a chance to pick one of these up, and watched this demo to get an idea of the raw tone of this amp. I still have no idea what the gain sounds like, or if this amp can do classic gain sounds. The clean sounds great, assuming what I heard wasn't effected by the pedals in some way, which seemed the case for most of the video. Kudos for taking the time, regardless.

  • @PaulGlover

The demo wasn't disappointing dude, your expectations where not met, that doesn't mean what I produced was a disappointment. So first thing I play through the amp is uneffected clean. The amp will do classic gain sounds amazingly but that's not what this demo was about this was about it being a versatile platform. Iam sure if you look you'll find what you want on a channel or even this one. Check out my combo demo it might be what your looking for.

@@PaulGlover Jfc……OK, dude. You know what, you’re absolutely right. “Disappointing” is an incredibly subjective word. To be more precise, it was blatantly misleading. Although, that sounds more harsh than “disappointing”, but you’re absolutely right, it’s far more appropriate. Hindsight can be a real c@#t, eh? Had the video been titled *“One amp to rule them all? Most versatile Amp in the World (as long as you’re using pedals)”* …then I never would’ve watched it, and wasted either of our time. Not because it wouldn’t have potentially been a good video, but because I’m not looking for an amp that only sounds versatile with pedals. For excrutiatingly obvious reasons, I have learned to have absolutely ZERO expectations from anything (or anyone) on the internet, or more specifically, the epidemic of gear demo’s on KZread…..SHORT OF, the title at least somewhat matching the content of the video. It will make an already strange interaction, even more awkward, if I have to sit here and state the importance of that. But, I digress… I’ll end this reply, the same way I did my initial comment, and say thank you for taking the time, regardless, and add another thank you for the reference to the other videos you mentioned. I’ll check them out.

KISS only used Marshall. Black Sabbath only used Laney. Clapton only used Fender. Metallica only used Mesa Boogie My advice: 1. Figure out what kind of tone you really want. 2. Discover what your favorite bands are playing. 3. Track down the amp and cabs that give you that sound. 4. Save thousands of dollars.
