On top of MAS - Museum Aan de Stroom/Museum At the Stream - Antwerpen (Belgium)

Het MAS -Museum Aan de Stroom - Museum At the Stream, Antwerpen, Belgium.
This extravagant building opened on 17 May 2011. It was built according to the concept of Neutelings Riedijk Architecten.
It contains musea with a variety of changing exhibitions, as well as permanent ones.
The central focus of the MAS is Antwerpen and its connection to the world. The collection ranges from maritime objects of international trade and shipping to the history, art and culture of the port itself and to the art and culture from Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania.
A walking gallery with curved glass panels, 9 moving staircases and one regular staircase bring visitors up to the 10th floor, where they have a 360° view of the city.

As l had said, l went exploring a bit, for when you and Sophie will come visit Antwerpen. I took extra photos and recorded video clips while l was there last week. I had a doubt to upload this, but l'm sure l didn't spoil it too much because it will be even better when you can experience it all by yourself. At least l hope so! Thank you for your comment, Jennifer. 😀👍

In 1999, the city of Antwerpen had organised an international competition of architecture for a new museum, in which the collection of several already existing musea would be brought together. 25 concepts were proposed and eventually, this one from Neutelings Riedijk Architecten was selected. I have visited the MAS only twice and only for getting on top to enjoy the view. In future, I plan to have a closer look at the selection of exhibitions and l'm sure l'll find a few interesting enough to visit next time. Thank you for your comment, Emily! 😀👍

I knew you were going to ask about the people on the photos and l was curious myself. 😉😄 I couldn't find much about it, though. I suspect that it has to do with the separate permanent exhibitions in the building. For instance, one of those is called "Alles van waarde". You can see it on the wall @1:08. People were asked to show an subject that they care for and treasure most and pose with it for a photo. Of course, a lot of people posed with their children. I'll see what we can do regarding the Ferris wheel, but it's not open all day, for as far as l know and we explored that part of the city already. This time, we're planning to go further away from the actual centre. Thank you for your comment, Traci. 😀👍
