#onthehunt #twinsticks #twinstickgarage
On this “On the Hunt” episode continue mining a heavy truck wrecker for Junkyard Gold scoring the outer edges of the yard for undiscovered diamonds. This boneyard had an incredible amount of minty old iron that took me most of the day to walk. Some incredible finds and so many potential projects … old Generals, Kenworths, Fords, Freightliners, Macks and I even found some old cabover Peterbilts including a rare 352 big cab that deserves to be saved.

    That blue Ford super duty cab over was called “the Knucklebuster” because you would smash your knuckles on the dash when using the forward gears in the pattern. Lol!

    I love the General. The interior is so standard GM for the era. The dash looks like one in a square body pickup, and the power window switches look like those in the Buick that I had.

    When I was a kid there was an old truck from maybe the 20's that we used to play on. Solid rubber tires and wooden spokes. That was fifty something years ago and little by little I watched it turn into mulch. Shocking how quickly it can happen.

    Better than a walk through the park, on a Sunday afternoon. 😎 Those old cabover Pete’s with bigger cabs...Doublebunks! Oh yeah! 🤩 I’m a little partial to the Generals as well. I’ve never seen a Hayes up close, but they were cool looking. Are you gonna do a sweet cabover project next? You might need a Sasquatch rig to add to your collection. I haven’t been to a truck junkyard in some time...this is giving me that desire. Looking to find a Diamond REO cabover. Haven’t seen one in some time. Until next time...”Make the trip, but don’t forget to enjoy the ride!” 🥰😎

    If I had the money to bring an older diesel truck that I don’t have to pass a dot physical for I would make it my daily driver and a show truck. I am old enough I never get in a hurry or go too far so I could definitely enjoy a bigger truck that I don’t need a cdl to drive. Lots of stuff there for sure and one of those times where you could spend money for days but have to hold your powder for those real finds. That Stross truck with the super sleeper was a huge thing back in the day, lots of room and they weren't cheap either. The old Gmc Generals will always be a classic just with the emblem design and their hasn't been anything like it since. That sucks about the Bear, those are one of a kind and someone knew it too bad they stole it, but you know out in a lot of the auto wrecker yards a lot of them arent really protected by anything so some guys will try and pilfer things rather than pay for them. Well I am sure it was sensory over load for you when you were there and the wheels were just turning. I love teh wrecker tour videos though, always neat to see what you somtimes dont see anymore

    Cool stuff, love these junkyard videos! That Pete 352 was a '77-'81 if it's original parts. In '77 the door handles were moved to the lower part of the door and continued that way until production ended in '81. 362's started the paddle style door handles on the Pete cabovers, also changed to bulkhead style doors instead of the squared off corners.

    Early 362s had the single piece front windshield with the 3 windshield wipers. All the air pressure pushing on that one piece of glass created some cracking issues, so on later 362s they went back to the two-piece front glass. Oh, and there was no need for a 362H - they were built bigger than even the 352Hs to begin with.

    When I look at these trucks I can't help but think of each vehicle when it was brand new and just delivered. How the driver would have felt being given the new truck in the fleet, or the owner operator with his new truck that he specced up himself. Running hands over the wheel, surveying his new workplace, thinking where he'll store all his stuff from his old truck. With the cars I think of the first owner driving their beautiful new car off the dealer's lot, fiddling with all the switches and feeling what it pulls like. The salesman's word ringing in their ears "don't lug it and don't over rev it while you're running it in!" Shame to see the state they end up in, all their secrets with them.

  • @morgansword
    @morgansword3 жыл бұрын

    Its a very good thing that I am too old to mess with that stuff anymore as I would pick me a runner and find the exact trans, rear ends on desired suspension ..... yada yada, go from one rig to another and before I knew it have about five of them going back together. I know the interiors have to be marginal at best but me, I know no better so it would come back with the proper cleaning and what not.... If I had that kind of money, there would be a full crew working three shifts just putting them right again. I am 73 and have driven so many different makes over those years... I forgot the no., of what was what and what years. My brother would not let me in his and then when he got older and knew he couldn't do anything with trucks on his place taking up about forty acres, he called a salvage company, they came, they smashed, then hauled them out on semi trucks. I never spoke to him over that for a while. Surely someone watching your channel will find you and salvage some of that stuff. Please find it is ringing in my heart.
