My husband and I just set up our new on-the-go water softener and this video was very helpful. Thank you.

Thanks Jim....your a good man mmm...I have a home softener system that regenerates automatically after 800 gallons but didn't know how this unit does it...now I know! Keep doing what you do...I found you easy to follow buddy!

On The Go's instructions say to back-flush every three months, not every month. Also, they say to continuously slow trickle water through the unit during recharging. No mention of stopping the flow and letting it sit.

The resin doesn't remove minerals, it neutralizes them with sodium ions so they can't chemically react with anything.

Water softeners work on a principle called ion exchange. A softener has a tank full of resin made of little beads. Each bead is charged with a sodium ion. Hardness minerals flow through this tank in an ionic form. The minerals are attracted to these resin beads, and the resin beads grab a hold of them and let the sodium ions loose. As the water flows through this column of resin, it removes all of the hardness minerals. You may be thinking of a non traditional salt-regenerating water softener, but it's an anti-scale device. They work by keeping the hardness minerals from coming out of solution and creating scale on products. It doesn't give you the same benefits that removing the mineral.

Summit you are not correct on the way this type of system works. It's not like your old-school home system that you fill with rock salt.

One question, when you put the salt in and are flushing out the salt is are you back filling or flushing it in the normal flow. Thanks

Add the salt and flush it at a slow rinse normal direction.

I live full time in a 5th wheel. One person. I have a washing machine that gets used regularly. How often would you reckon this unit would need to be serviced?

A Splendide uses in the neighborhood of 8-16 gallons each load, (depends on what brand you're using and what wash settings you use). 300-500 gallons between recharges as he stated. Do the math with however much water you normally use for showers, cooking and drinking.
