Dang, those are some soothy stoves! 🙃 Bought a Primus No.71 today at the kingsday fleamarket here in the Netherlands. Fired it up at home, worked right away. Old stuff is made to last... I always use Spiritus or bio ethanol for pre-heating. Much less soothy!

Informative, appreciate the effort. First vid I found was done at night, so burn looked good but nowt else really showed up -_- Few things for ya; Do you know if that's the original key? I've inherited one with a very, very short key and now I'm thinking it's an improv replacement; Petrol's a solvent, that's why the bottles dissolve. Think you can get small Jerry cans, or maybe y'all could try something metal? Ti flask for eg, to minimise weight. And have you put any kerosene through either of yours? I know that's its intended fuel but sourcing has been near impossible frankly. Nearly forgot this point - when taking the stove out its cover, if you lift slightly the neck thins and you don't encounter that resistance you had. Try it :)

Hi thanks for the interesting comment! I have no idea if the key is original but I would assume so as they are the same on both stoves and look suitably old. Petrol is indeed an aggressive solvent but a lot of drinks bottles are not affected by it which is why we use them, we have to choose carefully though. We've never run kerosene as we both ride petrol motorbikes and thus have a constant supply of that. There is also the Coleman branded stove fuel (not sure what it actually is) have you ever tried it? Sadly lifting the stove to slide it out doesn't work that well any more since I dropped and stood on the stove cover! :P I am lifting it in the video but I really need to widen the gap back to where it's supposed to be. Do you have any other stoves?

@@RatBikerNotts o my God, you've wrecked the stove's tin??!!! That is some collectors item, and now it's getting rare... Hhaha, kidding... Well, don't try kerosene in it, it will clog the Primus 71. Coleman Fuel is naphtha, also known as white gas or pure gasoline which was distilled by light. It is the same as zippo lighter oil. To keep your stove on goldie colour, prime it with alcohol. It is a collectors item, meaning, if you can restore it back to the shiny goldie colour, it worth high price. Check on the classiccampstoves.com where all those stovie nerds gathers.
