I watched one on a tv channel a while ago, the one where Stan won that poster competition. They took the camp, gay bloke out of it who minced up to Stan when it was announced he had won, I think he kicked Stans shin, not sure. So much taken out and for no reason! Nobody would get offended at that.

My husband has been a uk postman for nearly 34 years.. if you knew the crap he has to put up with! Double rounds, up at 3 am and finishing at 4pm. Its not the postman’s fault they are told only to deliver tracked and special mail on certain days. I see him come home grey with fatigue. All through covid with hardly any PPE he worked delivering the post for everyone. People have no idea how hard postmans jobs are. 😡

Brilliant writing, stellar casting, and actors who truly stepped up to the mark and are loved universally to this day. Absolute tragedy that Bob Grant and Anne Karen left us in the manner that they did. R.I.P

A lot of people haven't worked out that a lot of these episodes including this one were written by George Layton and Jonathan Lynn - both actors in the Doctor series (Doctor at Large, Doctor in Charge, Doctor in the House etc.). George played Dr Paul Collier and Jonathan Lynn was the womanising doctor, Dr Danny Hooley.

In series 6 episode 7 "The prize". Stan, Arthur and Olive are trying to get round mum so she would choose one of them to accompany her on her prize draw holiday to Spain. In a scene where Stan and Arthur are both running towards mums bedroom door, Olive is coming in carrying a breakfast tray. They collide and the tray goes flying upwards, you notice that Stan holds his hand to his mouth and turns away from the camera. In the next scene with Stan talking to Arthur you can see that Stan has a nasty cut on his bottom lip obviously caused by the flying breakfast tray.

A comedy of the time. Predictably the BBC turned this down as being “too working class” after their own confusion that Steptoe and Garnett were successful in the sixties and their concern that Mary Whitehouse didn’t like either of them. They decided they wanted to concentrate on comedy they understood…middle class, semi-detached stuff with Richard Briers or June Whitfield. 🥱
