THE REMATCH!!!! YASSSS!!! You all know how much I hate Seijoh (Oikawa) so it is no surprise where my allegiances lie in this matchup. We know that Karasuno has made some huge improvements as a team, and we saw a sneak peek of Seijoh's squad in episode 19, so I am expecting a serious back-and-forth battle.
I have a suspicion that this match will go for several episodes, and I know that I will love every single minute of it!!

I don't think Kageyama hates Kunimi, he's just frustrated that he spent 3 years with the guy and couldn't figure out how to utilize him properly.

Completely agree. Kunimi conserves his energy and doesn't like to over-exert himself until it's the right time. Oikawa knows this, and knows how to exploit it constructively; Kageyama just saw him as lazy. He's frustrated by seeing Oikawa work better with Kunimi than he ever could.

kageyama's old team didn't seem to make an effort to properly communicate with him either. Karasuno works better with kageyama because they are willing to talk to him in a way he understands or in the case of hinata willing to fight until they figure out a solution. Kageyama is not great at observation he has to make an effort to figure out how the team feel often literally asking them and SPOILER: He doesn't learn to really accommodate his teams spikers until season 4

@@tomuchcamoflauge To be fair, i think thats more a product of their age rather than lack of trying. The person who sparked that growth in Kageyama to learn to communicate first and foremost has to be Daichi with the events of the first few episodes, and really getting it into their heads that good teamwork is essential. Daichi is 17/18, and has a lot more maturity in communication, on top of the age hierarchy in japan, he's definitely more effective. Asking a bunch of 12-15yo's to learn to communicate with an unreasonable and aggressive person that is at best your age, or at worst 3 years older than you is too high of an expectation imo.

@@backinmydaycartoons7957 *some spoilers* Okaiwa who would have been the person he needed to better connect with the team in the first year very actively did not communicate with him. He literally almost backhanded kageyama when kageyama asked to learn a serve. The rest of the team all gave up on him mid game somewhere in the 3rd year. The other factor would be the coaches, which at the beginning would have technically been daichi for karasuno, the coach of kageyama's middle school didn't make kageyama play any different. That coach only took kageyama out when the team gave up working with him. the little that he was in there that coach just acted like kageyama's ability would just work without the interpersonal part of the team being worked on. Daichi being basically the coach, at the time, and not having a lot of people forced kageyama to be at least congenial with the team. He needed a TEAM not a king Also daichi, suga and tanaka were at the game between hinata and kageyama, and kageyama was a general player to watch. They already knew when they got the applications that Hinata was athletic but untrained and kageyama was impatient and bossy. They literally had a plan before kageyama and hinata were there.

@@tomuchcamoflauge also fair. All sides for his middle school screwed up, the coach didn't properly lead his team, his team didn't communicate properly for reasons that are fair, and kags didn't communicate properly either. So, a quick comment on Oikawa's 'I believe in you." It's poorly translated for the anime in season 1 so most people seem to get the wrong end of the stick, but in the original Japanese Seijoh's coach clearly explains that unlike literally EVERYTHING ELSE Oikawa says, despite the line sounding like it could be a joke or even a threat... that one line is always said with absolute faith and honesty. And because they know Oikawa believes in them 100%, every player on Seijoh can trust him with everything they have. Oikawa is a showy, showboating pretty boy who can be incredibly flaky and petty... but his love for his teammates and his desire to do his best for them is second to none in the whole show. If there's one thing he shows his true determination and passion in, it's volleyball.

Yup. Sarah is absolutely right that Oikawa is immature and petty. He even has an inferiority complex. An absolute brat all around. Kageyama does bring out the worst in him, but that's also just who Oikawa is. But this line isn't an example of it. Oikawa will always be there for his team to support them and build them up. His team mates may not be nearly as good as he is, but that doesn't matter to him. Because he truly does believe in them. His dedication to volleyball and being a team player is almost inspiring, and I kinda wish we had a series where Seijoh were the main characters and go to nationals. He's still an immature brat though. So even though I personally really like him, I can 100% understand why Sarah dislikes him so much. And I can't wait to hear more of her thoughts on him in the next few episodes. I really enjoy her perspective even if we may disagree 😊

It's so funny to see Sarah's distaste for everything Oikawa does. For me, he's such an endearing character. I'm sure there was a time I didn't like him when I was watching the show for the first time, but even in these episodes it's painfully obvious how much he cares about volleyball and his team and how much he wants to win. I'm also generally weak for smart characters with a heavy presence :D The musical score during Mad Dog's appearance is nothing short of perfection. Really reminds me of Prowler's musical theme from Into the Spider-Verse, gives me the same kind of chills. 10/10, absolutely terrifying

Just love that trumpet OST for Mad Dog! Gonna leave my support & personal opinions about the iffy subs as usual: 3:15「チャラい」➔ "show off". In this case, something more like "shallow" might have been better. 3:54「な~んか澤村君、貫禄ついたんじゃない?」➔ "You seem like you've aged a bit, Sawamura-kun". This should be more like "You seem to have gained an air of dignified presence, Sawamura-kun". Though I get that they went with the "aged like fine wine" train of thought by using the terminology for 「貫禄=dignity」, the "you've aged" wording seems to often get misinterpreted by viewers to be an insult & leave them angry at Oikawa when in actuality, Oikawa's just making a flat observation. In fact, his original choice of words could even be taken as a compliment or recognition of strength/confidence. 23:06「簡単に超えられるなんて思ってねぇ。張り合って力むな。」➔ "It won't be easy to get it over. Don't put too much strength into it." This is a misinterpretation caused by omitted pronouns. It should be more like "I (definitely) don't think that I can overtake (him/Oikawa) easily. Don't compete with (him) & end up putting too much strength into it." They showed that Kageyama just replayed Oikawa's great serve in his mind, so obviously, he's telling himself not to get overly affected by it. I mean, Kageyama saying simply getting a serve over the net is a difficult thing for him is kinda ridiculous. 23:30「恐れている暇はない!勝負に出なくてはね!」➔ "There is no time to panic. They need to go out there and fight". Another case of misinterpretation caused by omitted pronouns. This should be more like "There is no time to be fearful/timid! (I/We) must take up the challenge!”. The Seijoh head coach assessed the situation & decided here to go on the offensive & put Kyoutani in (also shown by him decidedly slapping his hand down on his knee). Some seem to be surprised by Kyoutani's "sudden" switch-in, but if the coach's lines were interpreted correctly, the scenario would've flowed more smoothly. Like others have commented, it's kinda sad that she seems to interpret things in a bad way when it comes to members of the opposing teams. Like how she thinks of Oikawa's line of trust in his teammates as a "snarky remark" & even thinks that his teammates resent him for it & "got back at him" in this ep, when it's actually about all the trust amongst the team members. & HOW did she come to the conclusion that Kageyama "hates" Kunimi?! So sad...

So glad you uploaded a reaction this week!! I'm dying under the pressure of completing my Masters' Thesis and I needed a break ahah Also, remember Matsukawa's funneling because it's going to come back in Season 4! Only for like a split second but it took me a second rewatch to figure out who it was ahah

hey, I dont know if that is too muhc to ask, but could you maybe put the subtitles in a more visible part of the screen, I think it would help alot with people who watch on mobile devices, also, it could help with the fact that the way the image is cropped it sometimes cuts out some words

I always enjoy watching your reaction videos because your interpetation of stories and characters are quite impressive. Your insight often gives me different or deeper understanding of Haikyu and make this anime more interesting! So thank you!!!! One thing, however, I am little worried whether Hinata has been loosing your reputation throughout the season because of his 'selfish' comments😭 I understand he does not have a wide perspective, but inaccurate translation owes responsibilites for giving incorrect impressions of him so many times. I truely hope he will regain your reputation eventually .😅 Well anyway, I just want to say thank you and love all the inspiration you give us!! I am so excited how you react to comming episodes!

It is quite easy for people to mistake acting immature to being immature. The level of comprehensiveness that Oikawa has and the choices that he is making (at their core, not at their surface) are not something an immature person could do.
