Olympic Medal Predictions

Спорт

Now that the dust has settled on the 2024 Aquatics GB Championships, it’s time we do a little reflection on some of the swims that we all saw at the London Aquatic Centre, and what discuss what Olympic Medals could be in store for British Swimming and Team GB by the time the Paris Olympics come around!
Yes it’s a little early in the year and our thoughts might change once a few more countries have their Olympic Trials, but do the performances of Freya Colbert, Adam Peaty, Duncan Scott and Matt Richards fill us with confidence as the year progresses!

Gold chances: M4X200, M4X100 (if they can actually get it together). Strong medal chances (open ended): M200FR, M100BRS. Strong medal chance (more likely minor): M50FR, M200IM, M4XMED, MMR. The depth and spread of GBR women has improved but there are no front line medal prospects. All 3 female relays CAN make finals and arguably should if they don't get too cute with heat line-ups (hint also to M4X100) but are not realistic medal chances. A fit Anderson COULD make finals as could 200flyers, Hopkin on a very good day, Shanahan/Colbert/Wood. Colbert is maybe the closest to the money but USA/AUS/CAN haven't held their Trials and we can expect faster times arguably from all 3.

    Being realistic with Dawson over 59, a very weak fly and Popovici swimming very well this weekend: 50 free-bronze 200free-silver 200IM-silver 100 breast-silver 4x100 free-silver 4x200 free-gold

Don’t count James Guy being on the fly leg, and think we’re banging the Max Litchfield drum after his trials 400m IM

@@PropulsionSwimming If you are talking about the men's medley you would need a 50.5 split from Duncan which is far fetched , in case he managed GB's battle would be for bronze with FRA that will suffer on FC and ITA that will suffer on fly, the good news is AUS are doomed with their current first 200. As for the mixed, if you bench Dawson and go with a 57 mid fly swimmer you are giving up 2 seconds, also to be noted Hopkins's 52:00 in Tokyo was very much an outlier, the AUS/US/NLD women are at least a second faster while she is on par with FRA or CHI. As for Max we know 1-2 will be Leon/Carson and there will be 6 guys fighting for a bronze so not very likely in my eyes.

6 USA🇺🇸. Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996. Olympic Games in Sydney 2000. Amy Van Dyken. Tom Dolan. Gary Hall (junior). US Women's team swimmer Amy Van Dyken has been associated with the BALCO Laboratory and has won six (6) gold medals at two Olympic Games, Atlanta and Sydney. including four gold medals in relay races. but this does not mean that, for example, in the relay races at the Olympic Games in Atlanta and Sydney, the US team should be deprived of gold medals and give these gold medals to teams from other countries. ?

No chat for an outside chance for the girls in the 4x200? Assuming Anderson can recover to show her best then it’s not out of the realms of possibility they sneak a bronze :)

@@i.d.9587 it’s a relay… you can get volatility (DSQs etc). Not saying I’m predicting a medal in the event but I fully expect them to get top 5 with the improvement they have shown, and then you never know. I like to talk up the female side of British swimming, as all the medal focus is on the men (except Freya)

@@russell10 Your "catcher" scenario with DQs has some validity HOWEVER, it also has to be acknowledged that they are not 1st catcher in line for any of the 3 relays and would probably need multiple DQs by those ahead of them. Do think that there are likely to be DQs but with countries taking relays so much more seriously these days, those DQs are more often coming from lower tier teams rather than the majors (GBR M4X100 an exception 😏😏

No chance for any country other than China to medal, as their swimmers will all be on the juice, and Wada will secretly look the other way.
