    I still get tears in my eyes ..when Dixie is played ..tears of pride ..as a Creole of color from the Gulf coast of Louisiana . family had been sugar.and cotton growers and brokers ...I'm proud to be an old Southerner..one of my daughters middle name is Dixie ..God Bless Louisiana and every inch of Dixie .. Three hundred years of Southern Pride..first ancestors settled California in the 1600s..and New Orleans in the early 1700s..French -Spanish and original Western Saharan ..Black Berbers ancestry ..Dixie is not a color ..it's a people and land ..the best on Earth..

    I'm a northerner, but now live in ATL. I am against racism and all hateful behavior. However, I think it is absolutely crazy that Ole Miss cannot play this march in public anymore. The song is not racist, it was written BEFORE the Civil War. The problem is that liberals tell everyone that a song, a picture, a word, etc.....is equivalent to racism. It's just absurd. At the University of North Dakota, we had to give up our Mascot (Fighting Sioux) even though both Indian reservations voted 75% to 25% to keep the name with the school. It is just crazy how so few people can cause so much grief for the majority. I love Dixie, it has always been one of my favorites. Keep playing it Ole Miss.......

    There is no need for boycotts, no need for confrontation, no need for petitions. All that is required are a few courageous band members, including alumni band members, Ole Miss supporters who can play an instrument, and any other musician with a backbone to gather together, and play "Dixie" on or adjacent to campus. Do it either well-planned in advance, or as a "flash mob band", but do it right and do it often and do it with pride.

    No, thats actually not what Ole Miss is about at all. Its funny that you say that cuz your actually the one who is left out now. 99% of people that go to Ole Miss arent like that at all. And no they actually do not chant "The south will rise again" anymore. They have even started playing Dixie again. The students that did chant that weren't even from Mississippi. They were form Georgia and were kicked out of school for it. Ole Miss is a place of learning and equality. It's very clear that you are not a part of Ole Miss and you would not be welcome there at all if this is how you think. Ole Miss isn't like that a single bit anymore. Sorry to bust your bubble. lol

    {With the fall of Petersburg and Richmond, and Lee’s surrender to Grant at Appomattox, Washington was consumed by celebration. On the evening of April 10, 1865, a crowd of some 3,000 people gathered outside the White House, hoping for some rousing words from their president. In response to their cries of “Speech!” Lincoln demurred, saying he would deliver an address the following evening, after he had adequate time to prepare. As consolation, he issued a special request for the Marine band. “I have always thought ‘Dixie’ one of the best tunes I have ever heard. Our adversaries over the way attempted to appropriate it, but I insisted yesterday that we fairly captured it.” As the crowd laughed and cheered, Lincoln added, “It is good to show the rebels that with us they will be free to hear it again.” }

    Gives me chills! It is a beautiful song. Wish the South wasn't the only one losing what means so much to them. It is not about race , it is a song! When I heard this song every night when it was the closing song of the radio stations, race did not occur to me. I am so sorry it makes so many so angry. Southerners have to put up with many things we don't care for either, but we do it gracefully. To the one who commented about Old South archive: Are there many Southern archives left? It seems to me that many would like to erase the Old South completely. This use to be a free country with freedom of speech. Sorry we are losing that. I certainly feel we are censored constantly in many areas. I don't like it one bit.

    +Holly Gamble-Bryant My hat is off and I bow down graciously to you Miss Holly. For your kind words to us Southerners. I too remember the days when they the TV stations signed off with Dixie and film footage of the old South. You are right it did bring chills to my heart also. May God bless you thanks.

    Being a prospective student of Ole Miss, it is sad that I will never get to experience Dixie With Love, or see Colonel Reb, or even seeing the battle flag in the grove. It almost makes me want to cry when I here this because it is a beautiful song but I unfortunately know I will never hear it in person. It's a shame what they are doing to ole miss and the south. Like I don't here people yelling the N-word or promoting slavery. In the 3 years until I Graduate high school ole miss will most likely not be the same. At least I can watch this on KZread with the volume up so I can feel like I'm there...

    I was at the Liberty Bowl, watching Memphis State vs Mississipi football game in 1987 (if I was not mistaken). MSU won 16-10. But the most memorable moments was the frantic ending to the game, with the Rebels throwing everything at the Tigers. Both set of marching bands played non stop towards the end...Go Tigers Go against Dixieland. Really admire how Dixieland was played that night. (Btw, I went to MSU)

    "Hurr hurr it's all the liberals faults" how about you stow it with the political shit, everyone enjoys the song. People who just can't let go of the past don't like the song, and that's that. Damn shame that Ole Miss can't play this anymore. It sounds like something the Casper Troopers would do.

    Not only "dixie" but the band also played "battle hymn of the republic" which was a union song written by an abolitionist. Its hard to stay united, hard to keep traditons these days but worth fighting for back then and now.

    A former student of Illinois. Our traditions and songs were dismantled as well. It can happen to anyone, over the smallest, pettiest gripe. Do not think it can't happen to you. Erasing culture like this is wrong but it is essentially government policy at this point. Save your memories and cherish them with your family, because some day all of this will be gone. Removed, deleted and destroyed forever.

    This song was always a tradition played at football games until the "outsiders" came in and started the process of changing what this university holds true to its history..you can take away songs and symbols but you can take away the history and tradition of this wonderful university.The students/alumni were left out of the decision making process of change. I hope that ole miss will finally stand up for its heritage and be proud to say, "WE ARE OLE MISS, FROM DIXIE WITH LOVE".....
