YorkshireForever101 I just passionately believe that all people, regardless of where in the World they are from, have the right to self-determination. This was a case of some American states exercising their legal & constitutional right to secede from the Union after Lincoln issued the Morril Tarrif that would've saved the US economy at the Southern State's expense. Slavery had NOTHING to do with it but, as they say, history is written by the victor. I hope that someday the Confederacy becomes a reality once again

Two times in my life I moved north of the Mason/Dixon line. Both times I reached a point where I woke up one morning, missed home to the point I couldn't stand it, then got on a plane and went home.

In Actis Esto Volucris My danish great great great grandfather fought in both Schleswig-Holstein wars from 1850-1851 and again in 1864 when he was 36 and had 5 children. He fought as a soldier in both wars. His name was Gregers Jensen.

That's cool...a great-great-great uncle of mine was named Francis Marion Bankston, and was in the 3rd Louisiana (Wingfield's) Cavary. Served at Port Hudson. He also served with three brothers in the war. The ol' Swamp Fox was popular down here!

Every time I hear that opening I get chocked up, I was born in Kentucky, lived alot in Florida as well. The south is all I’ve ever known & im proud of that. I go & visit the mill springs battlefield quite often (about a 10 minute drive) there’s also a confederate graveyard there, may those brave men RIP.

@F Offenton Dude nobody is denying the North's guilt in the Atlantic-Slave Trade. Doesn't excuse the horrific crimes the South inflicted upon the slaves, Freedman, Scalawags, and Civil Rights supporters

I despise slavery and the horrible things those people were put through, but I must admit watching these people sing with such passion about our beloved homeland brings a smile to my face. Love from SC.💜💜💜

Slavery was normal in almost every culture back then, and to be quite frank the slaves of the American South had a far better quality of life than the slaves in Africa, the Middle East, China, India etc.

Read the "Slave Narratives". The vast majority of slaves in the South were happy, healthy, well fed and well clothed, and had love and devotion for their masters. Up North is where blacks were treated badly. They were not allowed in Illinois, Ohio, Oregon, and other areas I can' recall at the moment. The War was not about slavery. That is one of the Marxist myths, along with chains and whips for the slaves, secession being illegal, and Lincoln freeing the slaves. These lies and myths have been taught as facts in order to cover up the real reasons for the war, cover up Lincoln's war crimes, and make the South out to be evil, backwards, and uneducated. The truth is out there, but it isn't taught in the government indoctrination centers.

Born in the Philippines but raised in the US (California). I've always been fascinated with the Civil War, especially with the antebellum South and the proud people that inhabited it. May God bless your land and heritage.

As a first generation American with parents from Laos and Thailand. The south welcomed my family with open arms. They accepted us as kin therefore this is my home. Theres nothing racist about us unless you go to a few very old parts. But I was born on a frosty morning and this culture is mine just as much as any other southerner despite anyones race. Love it man. I’m a South Carolinian born and raised. I know a lot of Thai people but I don’t know if I have ever met a Laotian in SC! Glad you love it here, SC was the heart of Dixie.

Not only is it wrong to take pride in what your ancestors did because you are not them and they're achievements aren't yours, but it's also wrong because you don't own your ancestors. It makes just as much sense to identify with and take pride in the ancient Chinese heritage of inventing paper and gunpowder as a western European American as it does to identify with and take pride in the heritage of the South. They are both equally 'your people'. At least in the eyes of God. You can group people together and pretend you're a different species but it's just your imagination. Fact is, you are direct blood relatives of everyone who's ever lived

Greetings from Rio Grande do Sul, the southern most state of Brazil! This is by far the state with the most vivid culture of our country and the people here (gaúchos) are also very proud of it and celebrate our victory in the war we had with the north, the Ragamuffin War. Everything here resembles the South of the United States, the culture, the cuisine, the people, the history and also the patriotism that we all have for our heritage. There are more people here who can sing the anthem of our state than there are people who can sing the anthem of our country. May the culture of both Southern Brazil and Southern US live forever!

Being black is germane to the thread. Some people are from other countries or from other states north of Confederate states and have no idea how this flag is so disrespectful. Do you know why swastikas are outlawed in Germany? Do you know why people don't fly swastika flags in the US? or, why there are no swatstika licenses plates or stores that you can conveniently go into and buy swastika paraphernalia? Do you know why?
