Oldest pier railway in the world - Hythe

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Join me for a look at this fascinating antique 3rd-rail electric loco-hauled pier train of wooden carriages on Hythe Pier, which connects with the ferry across from Southampton Town Quay and with wooden carriages, two (No.3 and No.4) recently restored very nicely, dating back to 1922.
The electric locomotive here, No.2, dates from 1917 and was built by Brush.
It was originally a battery-powered industrial tug in a munitions factory - Brush made tramcar motors and running gear for many fleets.
This video includes two 'walk-arounds' of the short train and a full ride down the length of the pier, in the rear unrestored driving trailer car (soon to be replaced by its newly-restored sister No.2).
