Sure the new string sound brighter and in that case with cleaner intonation. The old in not bad also, just softer and a not so loud, with less highs.

The lower register sounds brighter with the new strings for sure. The old ones have held up well though! How old were they when you changed them?

With new spirocores tak a 1/4 inch wide strip of blue masking/painting tape tape it to the string like a little flag about 1/4 or less inch above the bridge. Doesn't interfere with arco at all. Dampens D and G slightly nice tone (or at least in my mind). To dampen more use a 1/2 inch strip of tape. Tapewound strings?

Old ones sound better. Less metallic.
