Thank you for this great video!! I was debating whether or not I should get the MX 3 or the Ergo Logitech MX Vertical. The reason I am needing a new mouse is because I broke my first M 720! I was attempting to disassemble it for what reason, I can’t remember. I unscrewed the visible screws as well as the ones underneath the black points of contact or the “sliders.” After doing all that I STILL couldn’t get it to release. In a fit of irritation I got it to separate. But not in a way that was conducive to it being a working mouse thereafter. Yes, I broke it. I sheared a plastic column in the center. I proceeded to dissect it so I can have knowledge of how to take it apart in the future if needed. And also see where I went wrong. Apparently underneath the battery there’s that sticker with all the serial serial number, and model number and other information, well underneath, there is an additional screw. The last tiny little screw that ended up screwing me. Nevertheless, I purchased another M720 and received it the other day only to find that it came in a cardboard box, and had a black bottom. I’m not too happy with this as I think it’s a fake. So I will be returning it to Amazon and attempting to get another. While deciding if I wanted another M720 I had been looking at those other options I listed above. But thanks to your awesome video, I’ve decided to stay with the TRIATHLON. I love the thumb gesture button and I also utilize the Left and Right scroll feature. I’ve used and programmed them to minimize windows and close windows in all applications. So instead of having to find that tiny little box in the top left corner on a Mac and click it to minimize windows, I simply Right Scroll in the window it minimizes. To close the window I’ll Left Scroll and it closes. . I use the gesture button and push up with the mouse to increase the volume and down with the mouse to decrease the volume. Gesture button and move mouse to the right is mute, and gesture mouse button to the left is zoom in. When I single press the gesture button one time it accesses launchpad which access all the windows that are open currently on my desktop. This mouse is so cool and the Logitech SetPoint and Logi+ options is just beyond cool and convenient. Its had made using a basic mouse seem like you’re living in the medieval times. There are so many videos on this type of subject matter but yours was the most informative and straightforward. Thank you for being a smart individual and being able to explain this in a simple fashion in under 10 minutes.

I just make the videos and a lot of you find it informative so I am so happy, and I keep making them. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with your M720. Your message makes me want to open up the M720 to see how it works inside. I try not to chase the latest and greatest tech gadget trends which is why my channel is still so small. I recently switched over to the MX Master 3s with silent click, I still miss my M720 and will occasionally switch back to M720. However, when I am using M720, I miss the horizontal scroll wheel on the MX Master 3s. Stuck between to mice now. 😊

I've had the M720 for 4-5 years and I've been using it casually to control my PC/TV setup from the couch. It still works great, never had any connection problems at ~3-5 meter distance. And the battery life is insane. I don't think I've ever changed the battery, maybe once a few years ago, even though I leave it powered on all the time instead of turning it off. In Logi Options it still says that the battery is full haha. I highly recommend the mouse. Great product and great review.

No, M720 doesn't have the smartshift features, to change between rachet and free wheel scrolling, we have the press the mechanical button behind the scroll where. Yap, other people comment they like the garbage bag roll shot too. 😂

I have been using the M720 Triathlon mouse for several years for both my work and personal laptops. Recently I had to buy another M720 to replace the unit at work which was failing. When I ordered a new M720, I noticed that Logitech has changed the material which is used on the top and 2 sides of this mouse. The newer material is more of a grippier rubberized material, compared to the older material for previous M720's I had purchased before, which was a smoother type of plastic on the top and 2 sides. The newer rubberized material is annoying, because when I move my right hand from the keyboard back to the mouse, the smoother plastic allowed my hand to just effortlessly slide and fall back into place without any problems. Many times the more grippy rubberized texture of the newer M720 catches my thumb as I move my hand back on the mouse. That and many times my 4th and smallest finger catch the right side of the mouse on the more rubberized material, and then I have to quickly reposition my hand on the mouse to make sure the mouse is in place. There seems to be variations on the M720 depending on where you order this mouse, with differences in the rubberized material and 1 other change to the overall build. The M720 which I purchased from Amazon this week also was completely black, including the bottom of the mouse, compared to the 2 older M720's I have which are white on the bottom with only the 3 mouse feet being black. The All black bottom acts the same way on the newer M720 as the older models, there is no difference in this aspect. The big difference is in how tactile and grippy the new rubberized material is on the unit that was ordered on Amazon. One other thing to note, is that the M720 that was ordered from Amazon came in a small cardboard box, and did not have any plastic packaging. Just for the hell of it, I ordered another M720 from Best Buy. This unit came in the plastic packaging which I was familiar with when I purchased the M720 before. Additionally this unit from Best Buy had the white bottom with the 3 black feet which is the same as the older models. One other difference - even though the new unit purchased from Best Buy also had the more grippy rubberized plastic on the 2 sides and top, the material on this unit was machined or manufactured with a smoother feel and was not nearly as grippy as the Triathlon mouse which was purchased from Amazon. So, the unit which was purchased from Amazon is going back, and I will keep the new M720 from Best Buy. I realize this is a lot of detail, but I wish that Logitech would have left the Triathlon mouse the same way it used to be, with the smoother feeling plastic instead of changing it. Like the old saying is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I am going to try this new M720 from Best Buy and see how it goes. I might switch back to the Logitech M705 Marathon mouse if the new material is too much of a difference.

@@SkyPerspective - I started to think the same thing, that the M720 which I purchased from Amazon was a fake/counterfeit. I was going to call Logitech Customer support to see if I could verify if the mouse was legit or fake.

good review man. I got a MX Master 2 and a M585. the MX wheel is no precise to how much I wanna scroll and I can never understand why would the devise switching button is placed at the bottom. in terms of scroll wheel precision and switch device button, I go with M585.

Thanks WK P, yes it's a lot faster to switch devices when the button is on top. In terms of scroll wheel precision, I am starting to like the scroll wheel of the M650. The scroll wheel is pretty good. Watch here kzread.info/dash/bejne/YmRhktaOqa-pedY.html however this is not a multi-device mouse. M585 is a good mouse too. The only thing is two devices is just not enough for me. 🙂

Hahaha.... I was wondering when someone would point that out. Toilet roll is too wide, didn't work, so I used the center roll from a garbage bag roll. That's my latest videography gear! 😂 It got the job done, didn't it?! Glad you like the video, yes M720 is great!

Based on the hype and recommendations, I went and bought an MX Master 3S (and the MX Keys keybaord to go with it). I wanted the MX Master 3S specifically for its ability to switch automatically between devices. When I got it home, I found it immensely frustrating as its automatic switching ability rarely worked, causing me to have to flip the mouse over and push the button on the underside every single time I wanted to switch computer (which was about every few minutes). Fed up with that situation, I went and bought the M720 Triathlon mouse. This device works exactly as I hoped. The MX Master 3S will be finding its way out of the door very shortly.

I definitely agree. This is why I am using both of them at the same time ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/X2ytu6qIidzLpLg.html ) The MX Master 3S is really good when it comes to horizontally scrolling through video editing timelines, other than that, M720 is better.

I've been thinking of upgrading to the MX series when my M720 eventually breaks (but given it's Logitech this will probably last me a few more years), but now I'm thinking of doing the same as you when the time comes haha

Hey PG Blanks, I think that will be a super long wait if you want to wait for M720 to break. They are like indestructible. 😂 Yap probably better to get two M720s because the price of two M720 is still cheaper than one MX Master. The only advantage of MX Master 3 that I really like is the horizontal scrolling. Very useful for video editing timeline.

@@deveendranpathmarajan8949 MX Master 3 has a horizontal scroll wheel, whereas M720 horizontal scrolling is achieved by clicking left and right on the vertical scroll wheel.

The M720 is the best mouse I've had so far. However, after two years of use, I've had to fix (change) the left switch because of a double click issue. I thought of buying the MX Master, but it is too expensive and bulk for my pocket and use (mostly remote on a notebook/tablet).

Yes, M720 my favourite mice too, right balance of everything. MX Masters is way too expensive, and that's why I like M720 much more. M720 is quite as capable as the MX Master and definitely more portable too, without compromising too much features. I am about to do videos on Logitech M187 and M350 pebble portable mice. They are a bit too basic without horizontal scrolling and without the main thumb gesture button.

Hi there, thanks for your support. Apologies I won't be able to make the video by 8/8. Our city in Australia is currently in lockdown until Sunday and the MX Master 3 mouse is not with me. I will try to answer all your questions here. The MX Master 3 horizontal wheel has some good weight to it, which means we can do fine precise scrolling effortlessly. With different applications, the scrolling can be customised to do other adjustments like zooming in/out and volume up/down etc. 1. Yes they are the same. M720 is sometimes called M720 triathlon mouse, just another name. 2. These are the customisable buttons: MX Master 3 has 6 customisable buttons: Gesture Thumb button Vertical scroll wheel button The button behind vertical scroll wheel horizontal scroll wheel Back button forward button M720 has 6 customisable buttons: Gesture Thumb button Vertical scroll wheel button Vertical scroll wheel left button Vertical scroll wheel right button Back button Forward button 3. MX Master horizontal scrolling is the best if you want to use applications like Microsoft Excel. MS Excel is one of the preset applications in Logitech Option software. We do horizontal scroll on the M720 by clicking left and right on the vertical scroll wheel, which will move the spreadsheet in steps. MX Master horizontal scrolling is definitely a lot smoother with finer movements and fast movements at your fingertips. 4. Yes it does. Hope this explanation helps. Got it for 45 usd vs the 75 usd to mx master 3 Also, i feel the mx master successor will be out sooner than for the G604.

I just had to replace mine because the left click did weird things that made me think the switch was not being de-bounced.

Unique and informative video. I also like the M720 mouse, but have you had the mouse buttons issues? Sometimes it will not active the click or it will release the hold - it renders the mouse useless. As I have to do the same action a few times. Especially it don’t hold when I am doing a snippet. I’ve only used the mouse 1.3yrs and I keep it pristine clean

Yep, in less than 1 year, my newer M720 that was used for gaming (Minecraft with lots of button holding while mining) hit this issue where some clicks will not register and the hold is released when we didn't release the mouse button. My older M720 which is 2 years old now didn't have this problem. Thanks for your comment which made me track down how long ago I bought this mouse. I am going to claim warranty on this. Did you also use your M720 for gaming with lots of button holding?

@@SkyPerspective hi - no, I just use it for normal work, excel, powerpoint, and snipping tools. I’m so frustrated as I keep it super clean and not heavily used - I don’t do any gaming. I saw a KZread video where they removed the cover and dropped a few wd-40 oil on the button. But it didn’t work. It also just passed the warranty as it started in the 15th mth! I may buy another one… but so wasted as this mouse is still like new :(

@@jameschong340 Sorry to heard that. Looks like it depends on the individual M720 that we have got. My second M720 is still going strong after 2 years. By the way, I just replaced my faulty M720 with a brand new one, 20 days before the warranty expires 👍, and I just bought a new Logitech Signature M650 mouse. The clicker is those silent type, different to the M720 clicker. Hopefully the M650 doesn't have this issue. Will be doing a review on the Signature M650 soon.

I have the left button issue with my m720 when I copy and paste and drag down formula in excel. I also clean my mouse often and I am the only user. It is so annoying when I cannot hold and drag it. It happens to me at 2.5 years. I am thinking to buy a new one but not sure which one or brand I want as I don’t want to keep buying often. (My previous Microsoft mouse works still work fine even for 10 years now). Do you have any recommendations? I need fast scrolling and some programming button for excel.

How (if it's possible) can I configuren this mouse to perform a double click?

Do you have the Logi Options software??? Because I customized what the side scrolls & buttons on the side do & it also has the option to make it target different hotkeys depending on what software you have open.

Hi Nicholas, toughest question I have ever received 😄. I wonder how would I measure or even know how many clicks I have performed? Estimate my daily clicks and calculate how long I have used the older mouse until the time I made this video?

@sky perspective How hard do you have to push down on the scroll wheel to make it click (ie 'Middle mouse button)? I have the MX 3, but you have to push down with such force, I hate that! Can you check it against the MX 3 and let me know how it compares? Does it need less force? The same?

@Rufio80 I just tested it out for you. The M720 is requires lesser strength to press the middle mouse button on the scroll wheel, just slightly. Now having said that I have the MX 3S which most likely is different from MX 3, so we might be comparing apple and orange. To be honest, The MX 3S hasn't taken over the position of my favourite mouse yet, my favourite mouse is still the Logitech M720.

Hi, I got the M720 a few days ago, and i really do like it, however I have noticed when I move the mouse right and left on the mouse pad, the scroll wheel knocks the side and makes a clicking sound. So I have returned it waiting for a new one. I was wondering if this was happening on either of you M720 mouse? So I was wondering if this is the normal thing for the M720 or not? Also I was wondering if this mouse can use horizontal scrolling with logi options+ (using side button + scroll wheel) instead of the tilt wheel?

No, both my m720 don't have the issue you mentioned, knocking the side. It sounds like a defect. Have you seen my Logitech M650 Signature mouse video? The m650 has this feature of holding side button while scrolling to do horizontal scrolling. Unfortunately, the m720 triathlon mouse can't do this. I haven't tried out the m720 with Logitech option+ yet.

Every mechanical parts will have it's life span I suppose. So 2.5 years, hmm.... I wonder what's the life span for others using M720, My older M720 have not died on me yet after 1.5 years+, April 2020.

In terms of hand support and grip comfort, MX Master 3 is king. If I give MX Master 3 a 9/10, I would give M720 a 8/10.

I have a Logitech G604 that can switch between 2 devices, 1 via the dongle and a 2nd via BT. I want to get a M720 because of the easily accessible device switch and how many it can connect to for my other PC, tablets and phone. I take it the M720 is the same, 1 via the dongle, a 2nd and 3rd via BT? I see a vender selling a M720 without the dongle so it can only connect 2 devices with BT, right?

Yes device 2 and 3 connect via Bluetooth. By default, device 1 is designated for the dongle, however if we can to, device 1 can also be paired directly using Bluetooth. After we do that, to make it work with the dongle again, we will need to download the Logitech Unifying receiver app.

I have never used an iPhone before but my guess would be yes m720 should be able to connect to iPhone 12 using Bluetooth. Hopefully someone who have tried this can confirm this is the case.

Can i setup for one of the buttons to be copy on computer 1 and will it still be a copy button on computer 2 or do i need to set it up again?

Hi DW M, I did a quick test for you using my Windows PC and my Windows Laptop. I changed the middle mouse scroll wheel button on the PC to "Copy", and no it does not change the corresponding settings on my laptop. I have to set it up again on my laptop Logitech Option. Hope this helps.

Got a follow up question. What if you move the usb dongle from the desktop where it was "programmed" to copy to the laptop?

@@30mehra Did another quick test for you. Nope still doesn't work. I changed middle mouse scroll button on PC to "Copy", took the dongle out from the PC and plug the dongle to my laptop. The middle scroll button follows the original action in the Logi software on my laptop. I had to reconfigure on the laptop to "Copy". This makes sense because usually the USB dongle only receives the middle click signal and sends the signal to the Logi software on the computer. The configured action is on the Logi software localised to the computer in use.

Tried to replace the left button switch after five years of daily use, but few days later the scroll died and the mouse started to make coil noises. Maybe I messed up something. So I bought a new one. Let's hope it lasts another five years. This mouse is so good that there are no real competitors for the price.

Yes I agree, my older M720 is starting to have mouse click issues too. The click and drag drops the dragging even though I didn't let go of the mouse button. I wonder if I should get my third M720 😂 It only lasted about 2 years for me. Maybe I am too abusive with my mouse.

I've had a M720 Triathlon now for 2 years and 3 months and I do like the mouse overall, but it's showing some wear as the rubberized finish has blistered and peeled off in some areas on the palm. The scroll wheel is my biggest functionality complaint, with the ratchet clicked on it's WAY louder than any other Logitech mouse I've owned over the past 20 years, sounds like I'm out fishing and got a big one on!? Not exactly "Zen" while I'm trying to focus, I find that fairly annoying. Without it on though the wheel has SO much inertia and speed if you're scrolling through a big folder with more than a few hundred files and flick the wheel a bit too fast the folder becomes unresponsive and you're "in for the duration of the ride" until Windows Explorer finally decides to catch up when it hits the bottom of the folder. It's MUCH faster and more precise just to click and drag the slider on the right... The Logitech software is kind of a joke too, it's buggy and sometimes fails to load at startup or crashes, but I've found a much better mouse software for Windows called "X-Mouse Button Control" which lets you remap the buttons with all sorts of custom shortcuts and combinations, can then save that to a config file to put on other PC's. The only thing you still need the Logitech software for is the initial pairing of USB receivers.

Hi NETVO TV, haven't tried the G604 before, so I am not sure. Maybe others who have tried that before can comment more on that mouse.

Any click or scroll issues like most mice have after a year or 2?

I bought this mouse based on this video and others and I love it! One problem though, the side/horizontal scroll doesn't work for me. I spoke to Logitech and they told me to uninstall/reinstall the Logitech Options+ software and that seemed to fix it for a few hours but now it's back to not working. Has anyone dealt with the same issue before? it seems to be a software issue and not hardware so hopefully it can be patched with an update but it's still quite annoying, I need that horizontal scroll feature for work :/

Hi Tee Mk, I don't have any issues with the side scrolling (pushing the scroll wheels to the side). What I have also done is I have configured the front and back thumb buttons to also do the horizontal scrolling in certain applications like my video editing software, HitFilm. You can configure that in the Logitech Option app. Hope this helps.

How to connect this mouse with android phone? PC / Mac uses "Logi Options+" soft. No soft for android.

I have used this mouse with my Android Samsung Galaxy Tab and Android Galaxy phones. It connects well using the native Android bluetooth, and multi device switching over to and away from Android is fast too. Yes you are right there are no apps on Android for us to configure advance function like in Logi Option app, but natively the mouse works well using Android operating system. Hope this helps.

The only unfortunate thing is the clicking sound. A silent upgrade is needed to renew this mouse

Yes, the clicks are very typical clicking sound of Logitech mouse, not as quiet as a mouse like Logitech M350 pebble mouse, designed to be used in meeting rooms.

My M720 lasts for 5 years. Then the left click fail. So I changed the switch to a Japanese switch. Then the rubber fails. I ordered the cover replacement on Aliexpress, and all is well. It can work for me another 5 years

Are you able to share which Japanese switch did you bought and also the link to the cover you bought from AliExpress? It's so much better for the environment if we repair, recycle and reuse our devices. Wish I can learnt this and share the technique with my audience.

I tried swtiching from m720 to m650... now that is a pillow of crappy.

I feel M650 is slightly better than M720. It has side buttons like 720, but the switches are so quiet. It feels more premium even though its half the price

Yes the build of M650 is much better than M720 because it's a newer generation mouse. M720 is a multi device mouse while M650 is not, so if you are not after a multi device mouse, yes M650 is a better choice.

I have 2 such mice in EU, after roughly a year, year and a half they start doing double clicks. Old one did it, after that I bought a new one did it also. This is really disappointing quality from Logitech. I now intend to replace a buttons of the mouse, it costs 50 euro in EU. Great mouse otherwise- but the double click and rubber coating ruins all. There are not many good options for a mouse working with 3 devices, maybe pebble 2 or a dell..

The m720 is the new and improved m705. The 705 has everything except the multi pc connection. The 705 looks much better i have say but after about 3 years of regular everyday use the m705's scroll wheel is starting to go out. Time to upgrade to the m720

@chancey1979, I remember that mouse. I used to have the m705 too, and now I wonder where has that mouse went. These mice in my home are like real mice, they go everywhere and recently they seems to be breeding. I just got the new M350 pebble. 😁 Yes, the m720 is a bit more subdued as compared to the m705. Enjoy your new m720.

If you don't need the multi-device switch functionality of the M720, and just want to connect to one device and use your mouse on the go, then m705 is a better choice. It's a lot smaller and portable compared to m720. I am surprised m705 is still available on the market. Thanks to your comment I might just buy myself another m705 just for nostalgic reasons. 😁 It's a lot more portable compared to m720.

@@SkyPerspective its like everytime i scroll down it will scroll up a little bit right after. Its even worse when i use it in free scroll mode if i just pick up the mouse it will scroll down. Its way too sensitive. A lot of people complain about this issue in forums

@@SkyPerspective as an architect I bring it a lot to construction sites, and that says a lot about this fellow. Since the rubber on mine looks like Frankestein monster's skin at this point, I tried replacing it with the m650L, unfortunately that wasn't a good fit and not even nearly ergonomic as m720 for me. But I really liked the silent buttons. The smart wheel wasn't so smart after all you can't adjust the sensibility and you need 10x more flicks/turns to emulated 1 good push on the m720 hyper wheel. That also makes a huge difference while zooming in and out for bigger scale projects.

@@MrLelopes M650 and M720 are actually two quite different mice. Different scroll wheels, M650 is not a multi-device and ergonomic mouse like M720, and different buttons too. Logitech new mice are mostly having the quiet buttons like the new MX Master 3s. Hopefully logitech can release a new version of M720 soon with those silent clicks and it will be perfect for you.

@@SkyPerspective m720 with silent buttons would be reallyyyyy neat. ❤️. Yeah, I needed to figure the differences myself since everyone was marketing the m650L as a super ergonomic mouse just cause it has 2 sizes and multifuncional since it had the programables buttons. I think I might would keep it if only the scroll wheel acceleration could be adjusted. But even so it really lacks that premium fell from other Logitech mouses, even at the same price range.
