I buy a rare Yamaha Tri-Moto 175cc 2-stroke three wheeler and try to get it running after it has been sitting for years. #Yamaha, #2Stroke, #Trike,

The smell of blue smoke , the sound , aaawwww a 2stroke memory of my youth in the 80’s. Thank you
Goverment: Let's ban 3-wheeler production, those are too way dangerous! Guys on KZread: We will fix all the old ones & build some new ones too! 3-wheelers one love!

@@kevinAuman1 for real cboys has a crf450 3 wheeler that thing is crazy but nowdays they are still dangerous but less cause you make the rear WIDE AF and its already better. love how the cboys broke that engines multiple times cause the air filter is a cone filter near the rear and they went full send tru water, and that is why you want and need a air box... but also there is this channel on youtube that build trikes but also transform bikes into quads they make a crf 450 quad that is just crazy
This one deserves some new tires and a seat cover joe
I bought one of these Tri Moto 175's new in the early 80's. Blew a piston riding through wet snow and slush across a lake. Warranty covered the repair:). My first new 3 wheeler was the Tri Moto 125. Good times!
That deserves a full restoration
Love to see the old stuff come alive!
I had this exact 3-wheeler, it was such a blast!! Thanks for bringing this one back to life.

I had one of these as well, I thought it was the fastest thing on the planet as a kid lol
Of course you’d have one of these on now, one week after I sold my ‘82 175… bought for $100, seized engine, new piston, rings, pull cord spring… sold for $1000
adjust the clutch that will fix it slipping it’s behind the cover where u check the oil
Every video wheather it runs or not never dissapoints with knowledge alone 🔥
I had this 3-wheeler as a kid and Honda 125M 3 -wheeler !! So badass that you take the time out to fix these awesome machines 👏🙌🤙
That was the only three wheeler that I’ve owned. I had so much fun with it and almost makes me want to buy one if I had a place to ride it. Great video
Thumbs up 👍 for the hacksaw shifter repair. I have done the same thing a few times in the past ha ha

any three wheeler non honda is a rarity! keep up the great work, i love the vids. you have inspired me to start workin on atvs. jus bought an 01 rancher for 200 and now it runs again!
I just started fixing my tri moto 175 that was my dads when he was my age and it has been sitting for 27 years
Out of the tri motos that 175 is the rarest one produced. The 200cc the 1985 ytm 200cc was the rarest. Only year they made 5 speed, with reverse, electric start, shaft drive, and telescopic front forks

Once I saw that spark, I knew you were in business. Great job.
Those had the weight really far back in the chassis. I have had good luck with a few ounces of ATF in the old tires or good old fix-a-flat to slow/stop leaks and get more life from those old low-pressure tires. Especially since it's so important for the tire OD size (pressure) to match for the back on a live axle rig. Great job!!!!
Awesome videos man .look forward to watching them every day after work
That things is in good shape, I’ve never seen a 175 in that good of shape
This is probably my favorite video
Wowww what a score for that cheap!!! Even if it needs a rebuild hell that can be done for almost nothing on these old 2 smokers lol
Yeah, riding a 3 wheeler with a flat back tire definitely takes some skill. With enough seat time Joe, you’ll learn how to nurse an atc home with a flat rear tire…..it takes balance while standing up on the pegs!
I bought a 2005 crf150f and there was a huge nest in the air box and 2 dead mice. Ram like a champ tho. Still smell of decaying mice, they literally melted, it was fun cleaning it out

Safe to say that carb is definitely going in the carb dip for awhile! That was some nasty crap in there. The oil in the carb likely leaked past the pump and check valve if it sat for a long time. My H2 Kaw triple used to do that if it sat for awhile. Thanks for a cool video, Joe!

Nice little machine. Thank you for letting it live for a bit longer.
I cut one of them up years back and put the engine in a cage-kart. So easy to transplant and work great for that type of thing. It was crazy fast!
Shifter shaft shakes. Shim the shank from shimmy!
A nice video there Joe keep up the good work bro you never cease to amaze me. I know you would get it running nice little machine you got there take care and God bless bro peace out.

Wow Joe that thing brings back memories from long ago I think they used to call those cats, and I remember the Suzuki's of that era. I doubt that bike has many hours on it that's for for sure. And it's funny that you said it will just make the slit bigger that's what we used to do. I would probably cut the silencer Weld and clean that sucker out that's for sure and get some tighter springs for the pipe but all-in-all where the hell do you find those deals man??? I used to have a dt175 with a through the frame power pipe and a Wiseco piston in a Webco head and I can tell you after the card was poured in know that 175 Enduro was fast. Anyhow Joe very good work excellent video show her some love.
We just got one. The thing is a beast!

Great video. Neat old tribaby.
I got one of these, bought it a couple months ago, thing is a blast and kinda fast.
The way your wrench snaps up in the air when your removing the spark plug and taking it off the socket, I did that and hit the crossover fuel line on my Yamaha which is exposed above the cylinder head and gas was spilling everywhere haha
Have you tried using a turkey baster for feeding fuel into the carb fuel line? They are also good for sucking out water / oil ect out of bottom end of 2 stroke engines. Handy to have around.

Great buy joe that thing is pretty cool man a clean up and it will fetch good money great vid mate take care 🔧🔧👍👌🔧
Of all the ATCs I’ve ridden those were by far the most unstable lol, quick little bikes though we had two we used to take down to Mexico and ride on the beach, anything other than flat ground they were a bit of a handful, Honda definitely had the handling figured out way before Yamaha, those little 175s definitely hauled A$$ tho for such a small ATC lol
Love the custom seat cover (duct tape), every ATV I ever worked on, the seat goes to crap,in just three years or less
Nope not the original tires my man. The rears were matching with your front tire, a dimpled knobby tread was OEM. Own 2 of these things and was around when they were brand new have one as a kid. The one I'm building right now is a Franken Trike for better handling and more comfort. The neck was removed and raked to 24 degrees which matches the Honda 250r frame layout and using triple trees and the entire front end off a trashed Honda 250r. Engine has been fully modified and built for performance. Custom crank, welded cylinder deck and installation of a Yam DT-175 jug with the best of the cylinder heads from 85 with the center located spark plug and shaved for higher compression as we as ported mildly. Using the larger reed cage of the DT and a custom intake and boot running a 28mm Mikuni round slide. Clutch was modified for a higher stall speed engagement as well as the DT cylinder was modified, they had great transfer ports but a poor exhaust port design. Welding up the top of the exhaust port on the outside and the removal of the restrictive blockage of the original casting was removed for a free flowing downstream system. They run pretty well though even in stock trim when they aren't beaten into the ground and left for dead! Lol.
Yess. All the 3 wheelerssss!!!
Those metal stick valve stem bar tools come in handy for replacing them with to. They pivot to pry down to pop them through the rims very easy to with. A little bit of soap they will pop through until it seats into place when the stem is to the putter rim edge. Just make sure that area is cleaned up good first. Before reinstalling A new replacement vavle stem in it's place. Yes those tires needed replaced A very long time ago. A 1/4 cup of kerosene to presoak into that muffler.& then burn it out good. After the exhaust has been removed from the engine will bring up the tourche.& horsepower to. I remember that three wheeler growing up years ago.
Great job nice 1 👍.
I had one those it was a blast an the best bang for the buck. It was a 1983 yt175k model tri moto
Great video man
The tri moto 175 was so fun growing up on.
I have a blue yamaha trimoto 200cc trike and it's my favorite lol the capability of a dirt bike and quad all in one.
I had the earlier 125cc and a 1983 yz125 dirt bike. how anyone made it through childhood in the 80's is beyond me.
Not going to lie I go straight to 2 vintage to see new videos when I get on KZread and get a hour or so free time I’m doing a crf 450r and pw50 into a 60 cc
Great job on that old pig, lucky it ran so easy, sat a long time.
LETS GOOO im a big fan off the yt125 and 175 by the way the number one problem with these things are the crank seals it can cause higher compression feel and probably wont run btw haven’t watched the video yet haha
You wanna sell me one of those quads you fixed up? ill come pick it up.. not kidding.
You need a upgrade to a 6x12 enclosed trailer! Fits 2 Quads...
Nice ride I never seen one before
The 225dx is a blast I love mine
Maaan I'm jealous. I just paid $500 for one of these in horrendous shape. Massive hole in the pipe. Has compression and spark but doesn't fire. Not even a pop.
One thing I found in life if I ever came across any oil injected machines I would remove the oil injection and mix the gas myself ! After blowing 3-4 engines mostly Yamaha after rebuilding remove the oil injection and the motors would last for years ! It seems most oil injection systems could not keep up at high rpm !
@trimotomann653

aways premix and block off oil ports so dont have a air lean mixture my first 175 had a broken oil injection line
those big trail pro tires are heavy for the yt175 the slow it down i recommend getting smaller ones 22s are to big to heavy
Would have liked to seen a part 2 of the next oil change to see if there was any more metal flakes from the grinding you predicted

As others have said Yam Dt175 motors almost bulletproof and will shrug off plenty of abuse. In '78 they revised the model with a monoshock rear, cdi ign, lighter plastic components and a six speed transmission to make a very popular and successful trail bike, more nimble and responsive than the rather heavier and slower revving 250. Wondering if your trike has a 5 speed, as it probably weighs more?

Hey U can use this trick to know if an engine is gonna run you don’t even need a carb on the bike to do it u can drop fuel down the carb holes on 4 strokes too and down the cylinder of 2 strokes more common on 2s but not a lot of people use it on 4s
