Wow! This vid snapped me straight back to 99'. I didn't realize how much I missed it. Yes the music has gotten better, the technology better, and more mainstream edm vs underground, but the vibe and spirit in your average NYC club is nowhere near what it used to be. I used to hang out at Tunnel, soundfactory, and limelight back in those days 97-01. I was hanging out at space ibiza NYC a few weeks ago and doing some old skool liquid and everyone (including the pretentious rich kids at vip tables) loved it. What made my night was when one of the security guys who has been doing this as long as I have walked up to me, hugged me and said he has not seen that spirit on the dance floor in 15 years! Rave to the grave!

Weeks were strung together by the weekends, who was spinning, dancing until it was the next afternoon. A weekly religious experience with friends and strangers, as well as heady conversations that were better than any therapy session with a shrink. All well and good but one day you realize 5 years had got behind you and the vibe of the scene was changing. Now I just remember that life as great memories and a very special time in my life.

YEssir! Limelight...Tunnel...SF...but my favorite was actually Exit. Rooftop bar to cool down was a nice touch...so many little side-rooms n shit...I got lost for hours my first time there, just rollin' around the club from room to room til my peoples found me LMAO

IFKYK…. Had no idea I was living in the 90s version of the 70s disco I thought about so much!

I LOVE this .....but it's also MEGA depressing at the same time cuz of the nastalgia... as I grow older and older, I see the scene that I grew up in, that SAVED me, a young kid, and gave me a place and a global family to spread love and light with...the vibes, the energy, the Love, and the Dancing (liquid pop, tutting, footwork etc) and being able to have been a part of the REAL DEAL ol school party raver scene, is something very special to me and Im humbled by it to this day... I'm glad the nu skoolers (amongst themselves) feel as if they are getting to experience what "a rave" or what "raving" is really like, and I know that in THEIR minds they truly are cuz NOW is all they KNOW, but maaaaaaan how far off they really are from getting the chance to experience something REMOTELY CLOSE to what the late 90's/EARLY EARLY 2000'S underground party scene and the culture that encompassed it was really like 😑....I won't even ATTEMPT to put it into words, but to all of you REAL LiFE - Ol Skoolerz here reading this, that TRUUUULY KNOW AND "GET" what I'm saying... P.L.U.R to you all my Family, so glad I got to share those times and that life and love with y'all kids, i honestly mean that.... SO much Love!.... Word Simply Jeff was the shit. Loved his funky sets. The guy that really blew me away was Bad Boy Bill. Saw that MFer play at Carbon as an unknown, right after Frankie Bones. He blew the roof off the place. Him and Carl Cox were my favorites.

Pure nostalgia!! NOTHING like those days.

I love glowstick dancing. It enhances any party experience and it is a true art form!! Went to an event last weekend here in Florida and the glowsticking was amazing...

As far as pure glowstick technique, I feel that the guy 1:25 had the most mastery. Others were great dancers but were sort of break-dance or pop-and-lock focused, whereas the 1:25 dude had this style of dancing absolutely mastered

You know in UK rave glow stick dancers(can think of a better word for them ;) largely frowned apon. Often known as Cheesy Quavers(after the cheesy crisps).But American's gave it a true home!ahh

Only rave I was ever able to go to was in 1995 in Atlanta and I am shocked to this day that my dad let lil ole 15 year ole me go to experience that. The people went with, they were talking about getting some X and dancing all night. but I didn't have $30 for X. I'd never done it and although I did want to try it Im glad I did not there. I never did try any actually. Not any worth a damn anyways. But I ended up eating some acid. I had an awesome time I didn't dance because I was tripping balls and I was kind of shy. This one guy asked if I wanted to dance and I just remember saying in a very deep voice, well in my mind a very deep voice, " I can't... I ate sooome aaaaacid " I remember everyone was drinking water. No alcohol. Well none that saw. I asked someone much older than me why and they said it's because alcohol dehydrates you and with all the dancing they didn't want to get sick. She also said something about how alcohol doesn't mix well with ecstasy if you decide to eat any. IDK if that's true but Made since to me so I went with it. it got broke up from its original location, some warehouse on the outskirts of Atlanta and we had to move to a different place closer to downtown at like 2:00 in the morning. And the party continued. it just did not stop I'm sure it was still going when the sun came up and me and my friends left. I didn't end up getting into the rave scene all that much but I'm glad I did get to go to that one and experience it all the lights and music and just good vibes. I can honestly say there was nothing quit like it.
