The human gods honestly look like they could be in ClayFighter 63 & 1/3rd

The human god characters might have worked better if they were like special summon characters for the dinosaurs or something like that -- but the dinosaurs are still the focus. Maybe the meter to summon them is built up by eating/killing the humans in the background as "sacrifices" to them.

when i played this at an arcade; years and years ago. the default character select screen was only humans. there might have been a time clock or some kind of unlock feature; that over time were able to only select a couple dinosaurs . this game was only at the arcade for about a month or 2 ; then was never seen again. people in the past telling me the game never existed LOL. yeah right. i played it a bunch of times; before it went away.

@@AquaHedgehog yeah; i dont know how many have existed; but maybe it could be that machine. maybe it was being "passed around" to different arcades just to gauge the "hype" of it. but not sure why it was never officially released. mind you; this was in arlington heights illinois

the transformation between combos is unique adds personality to characters and is badass

Sauron is one of my favorite dinosaur characters.

POV: its the 90s and you wanted your human chars to look like Killer instinct chars but they ended up looking like Clay Fighter instead

It was a cancelled sequel unfortunately. There’s only 1 cabinet in existence and I think it’s in Chicago or one of the big cities. It was a testing cabinet so not even 1.0 yet. Thankfully it survived the years and was preserved and uploaded online for us to play!

I really love the 'hitting' effects of punching and kicking!

I like how Sauron was giving some new moves, like the ability to grab and throw you in mid air like Blizzard.

I like the creativity of having two characters in one, but the Avatars look silly and out of place. should have made them dinos instead.

Yeah, nobody plays primal rage to play as fucking humans. You went to the primal rage machines because you loved dinosaurs! :P This was a dumb idea.

@@miaouew That's how I felt about it. Nothing wrong with people per se, it's just you want this game to stand out, and it doesn't stand out as much if you throw people in there. Should have had them morph into other Dinos or something.

Dagger would have been dark green with light blue spots and black quills running down her back. Blizzards apprentice:A male spinosaurus named Tundra. Tundra would have been an Icy-blue color with black stripes running down his back. Saurons apprentice:A male albertosaurus that would have been named Gorgon. Gorgon would be yellow with spikes that were grey. Chaos’s apprentice:A giant praying mantis named Decay. Decay would have been dark purple with teal “eyes”. Vertigos apprentice:A suchomimus named Dementia. Dementia would have been light grey with red and green spirals on his body. Diablos apprentice:A dilophosaurus named Lucifer. Lucifer would have been light black and have a light purple crest and red and green frill. Armadons apprentice:A stegosaurus named Thagomiser. Thagomiser would have been dark blue with black plates and green eyes. Slashfangs apprentice: A woolly mammoth named Donok. Donok would have been brown and black with ivy eyes.

Agree, should've been dinos/beasts, not human characters. That was the main appeal of Primal Rage. There's plenty of fighting games with human characters already lol

If both Primal Rage and Rampage came back? It would've been awesome if they had like a crossover reboot game but much better than "Mortal Kombat vs DC" imo called "Primal Rage vs Rampage".

If ur lucky enough you can find an arcade of it in strange places. I found one in Yosemite in a train arcade. Strange to find but I played it as much as I could before it crashed.

Gruntzilla94 I am 26 years old and a huge fan of the first primal rage....however upon playing this, im loving this one much MUCH more! thank you very much Gruntzilla94 for making it even possible...you continued to persevere when many said its impossible to even bother, you made many video game live's complete...a thank you is a understatement to the amazing effort and achievement of making this game playable... you've given hope for many many fans of primal rage to finally get a chance to play this unfinished masterpiece...if only those programmers could get together and finish the game would be sensational...thank you very very much gruntzilla94!!!!!

It's an incomplete ROM that was released around the web. The game itself never came out in arcades. Hard to know why, it really was in an advanced state. (Though why humans?)

Because the ppl at WB/NR didnt want competition. And at the time that this was big the only other game out that could rival it was MK. To make a long story short the bosses at WB shat on this game so hard so it wouldn't get released.

Sauron is a pretty cool dino in this. I hope people start playing this at side tournaments also.

@@Astrodude55 well we have all these videos on KZread so I don't see why not the game is getting rather a lot of exposure at least by the algorithm's sense sometimes it comes bubbling up out of KZread's search result so I wouldn't say "good luck on that"

Yeah they had over a thousand unique frames each. If you didn't know already but they are stop motion animated puppets

Just finding out about this game now. Some characters like Chaos & Vertigo I can understand changing into human avatars, due to their backstory, but for the rest, it seems odd. Sauron & Armadon look pretty good though.

I actually am thinking of doing all the characters in 1 credit runs. Anyways about not being able to play the game that sucks. Maybe you could get a bootcamp with windows running or even using wine to see if it will run it.

JOHNNY Walker Necrosan is cool looking though maybe change his name. Steal a dragon name from another universe. Like the idea of Diablo changing over to a Carnotaurus. Should add some more dinosaurs, or even some weirder mammals. keeping Vertigo, and Aramdon hybrids is a better idea. Snake mutant spitter Dinosaur, and a Styracoankylosaurus Add a Tharizinosaurus with its birdlike appearance, and giant scythe like claws make it a natural choice. Add a Wooly Rhino and Megatherium mix for Slashclaw to fight. You need a Baryonyx like theropod or a Spinosaurus. Make a crazy looking giant Stygimoch Stegosaurus that parallels Armadon. Add maybe an undead Mammoth Wendigo monster. Definitely a lot of potential. Maybe make a Dilophosaurus like dinosaur with an acid or electric attack. Add another Raptor with some form of weird magic powers.

Sounds like a rom issue. Do you have the chd in a folder called primrag2 in the roms folder and do you have the Atari PSX bios rom? The bios rom could be the missing rom if you are missing any.

If this came out when I was a kid (as it should of) I know I would’ve been turned off at the fact of having human characters. But after seeing gameplay such as this I have to say it would’ve been a hell of a lot more fun than the first one! It’s a shame this was scrapped.

Blizzard=Sub Zero and Jax， Armadon=Raiden and Nightwolf， Talon= Kitana and Kung Lao， Sauron=Scorpion and Liu Kang， Chaos=Reptile and Kano， Vertigo= Shang Tsung and Ermac， Diablo=Shao Kahn and Goro， Nekron= Shinnok and Quan Chi， Slash Fang= Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. If someone has another ideas,i'm all ears!!

I'm surprised at the lack of Cr.LF. That normal has insane reach and can lead into stuff. With that said, I feel like Sauron has the best ground throw just because AFAIK it's the only throw in the game that can combo from it. Hyper Attack(If you wanna call it that. I prefer Launcher since that's what it is.) I feel more than makes up for Sauron losing Primal Scream in this game. The Aerial version being able to combo into an Air Throw is also a big boon and was probably to make up for Earthquake Stomp's nerfs. Anyways, pardon my rambles. Just me talking about my main. Your work on making this(sadly) unreleased game has not gone to waste.

Yeah I am not really a Sauron main, my main is Vertigo but I just felt Sauron was a good choice for something quick. crouching LF is very useful but I rarely use it since I usually can't get into any combo after it. That and also I am using a controller instead of a keyboard which I usually use, so I am still getting used to it which is also why I didn't use many lows other than in jumps. Yeah Sauron's throw is one best throw for sure. Very fast on start compared to other characters and the ability to juggle is also great although I couldn't seem to connect the hyper attack against Tor or Xiao Ming as you can see in the video. I actually would've loved having Primal Scream in this game since it could mean more combo juggling especially with a hyper attack and a cranium crusher. Also rambling isn't something I mind, I usually ramble on too, if you usually see a post by me its almost always TLDR territory of rambling lol. Anyways glad you're enjoying the game, seeing everyone enjoying the game makes me glad that I got this game working.

At max spacing, you don't get much from Cr.LF, but it does give you an opportunity to put added pressure with Stun Roar or Earthquake Stomp. Midrange, you typically get Cr.LF, St.LP xxxx Stun Roar. Sauron also moves back a few pixels at the end of the move, so if nothing, CR.LF is mainly there to make people respect his footsies game. Personally, I feel like Sauron's a bit of a Shoto/Grappler hybrid. Having a fireball as an extension to his ground pokes, Anti-Airs in Cranium Crusher and Hyper Attack, trading Tatsu for a solid throw game, the works. Xiao Ming's a timing thing.You have to buffer Hyper Attack from the grab to land the Cranium Crusher afterward. Tor is mainly a case of his hurt boxes when thrown being wonky. As for the game itself, it makes me sad this game never officially came out and Atari's idea of compensating was a frickin' novel. The development team looked like they actually sat down and tried to make this an actual fighter(For example, changing the old Special Move input to traditional SF ones, among other things.), but eh. The fact that this is playable in 2017 is more than enough.

It's really cool to see this for anyone who has read the Avatars book, but man, the giant humans thing just seems bizarre and out of place. Why not just have them transform into their god form at the beginning of the match or something? Having them as giants doesn't even make sense in the context of the book. Also the music is really strange at times. I like the creativity of this game but I can see why it got canned.

Armadon's A Styracosaurus

Primal Rage was the first arcade I could beat, I was 12 when it came out. As much as I loved the first version of the game, I can't help but feel disappointed the direction the sequel went.

I'm totally with you. This "god impersonating thing" wasn't the right way. Primal rage was about creatures fighting each other, not morphing into some action figures with swords and axes.

Wow! Incredible game! Why didn't Atari finish it? Primal Rage 2 would have been the success Atari needed to survive financially. It also would have been the perfect 'killer app' to port to their Atari Jaguar console.

1) Different Atari. The Atari that made this game and th original Primal Rage was called Atari Games. They were a whole seperate company from Atari Corp which are the ones who released the Jaguar. Remember, when Warner sold Atari in 1984, it was split into 2 companies. Atari Corp and Atari Games. Atari Games was owned by Namco then in 1986 the employees bought Namco's share out to make it a seperate company. Atari Corp was owned by Jack Traimel who was kicked out of Commodore in 1984. 2) By the time this came out the Jag was DEAD in th water, nothing could have saved it.

I wonder why it was cancelled, it does seem to have a few bugs but otherwise it seems complete!

It was canceled because Midway bought out atari games because they didn't want primal rage to interfere with mortal kombats success

IMO, I find the gameplay in 2 to be much funner. Pulling the moves are much easier

This looks kind of cool. However I'm not liking the whole human aspect of it. It makes it feel like every other fighting game at the time. They should've ditched that stupid humanoid god idea and just added more prehistoric type characters.

Honestly glad this never came out, it cheapens the character and style of the first. They were so obviously trying to ape Killer Instinct with this one, it looks like they changed it mid-production to an entirely different game. This was nothing more than a capitalization/money grab and it feels like it.

All they had to do was add new dinosaurs not humans...this would've been fire.
