Played this game so much back in 1988. First game I beat in the arcade. Those were the days when if you were really good at a game it would attract an audience around the machine as you played. Good times.

Yes, I experienced that a few times (not with this game). Then I'd run out of quarters and someone would pick up where I left off (further in the game than they'd ever been) and quickly die.

For some reason I just love the way each of these statements sound: "Rise from your grave." "Power up." "Welcome to your doom."

I used to go down to the arcade on a Saturday and stand there all day playing this, Double Dragon, Golden Axe and Out Run. Great days.

I love that the credits reveal that the whole thing is a film production, and the cast members all go enjoy a beer together afterwards! We didn't get that in the Genesis port!

100. Facts. I just laughed so hard at that myself.

I like how confidently he says "welcome to your doom" after being defeated every single time. That kinda spirit you gotta admire. Last iteration of the boss battle should definitely show them getting those beers. As a kid tho I saw the first boss at a friend's place, we must've been 8 or so. I tried to explain to my folks what I had seen and why it scared me so much, but they just couldn't comprehend wtf I was saying- and tbh who can blame em.

They had this game at the front of the grocery store when I was a kid in the late '80s. My mom would hand me several quarters and go take care of her shopping. Such good memories!

So the villain starts the game off transforming into an awesome but nightmarish hellbeast that rips its own head off to attack. And at the end of the game turns into a pink rhino-man. Guess by that point he was out of ideas.

this game in arcades was badass... the huge screen, blasting speakers. yes, it was harder than it needed to be (the genesis version really tightened up the controls and responsiveness in gameplay mechanic but the graphics and sound took a major hit). but such a thrill to play, as long as you had another quarter in your pocket (and a friend to help!)...

Man I would play this game every morning before school. I remember my best friend would come over and we would play co-op trying to beat this game until we finally conquered it.

I remember when I was in forth grade. My father took me to the arcade every weekend and I played this game. I know this game is not the best in the world but it brings back memories of time I spent with my father.

For an 80s game this looks very much ahead of its time

I beat this game at the movie theater with my brother since it's actually a 2-player game. I think we played it every week or two with $1.00 worth of quarters after watching a movie. And after a few weeks of playing, I was shocked the game was just over. Because I didn't expect it to end so quick. Not realizing that was the final boss.

Never realized how scary these levels are, especially when this version also switches the songs on some of the levels here compared to the Genesis version.

Always wanted to have muscles that easy. Loved this game ❤️❤️❤️

Yeah I've always felt this game had a very lazy production about it or something. Only 3 level BGM's, wolf beast is used again for the last level, bosses require just mashing of the buttons while being knocked back. I still love the game, I just think it definitely could've done with some tightening

@@LynkxMan by modern standards even as an indie game it would criticized for a lot. My favorite WTF moment in this game is the out of place fish assets on the last level. I also suspect that the 0 damage contact knockback is the result of lazing coding to avoid creating a fair and balanced contact damage system with i-frames.

Omg, same! I could never get past the 2nd level just due to the boss’ design & spread-eye attacks. I learned, when I was 17, you could actually get up in the boss’ representation of a face & just spam the lightning attack, all while you’re near him. I felt so stupid after that lol

I love these sort of videos. Reminds me of games on the arcade machines where I never had the chance to complete but always wondered how they did. AND where people play for fun, not for a perfect run or speedrun, and do not mind loosing a life/energy as that was part of the game. How it USED to be.

One of my more fondly remembered arcade games; you're dead good at it too. Always loved the thought of this being real; to be able to change into some mighty, unstoppable beast and lay waste to evil-doers.

Popped in all those quarters in my childhood when I could've waited 30 years or so and watched this video. Alas, no regrets.

Man I still remember getting this for Christmas as a kid! it came with our genesis but we also got tommy lastorda baseball and buster douglas boxing also! Me and brothers stayed up all night playing this

You know something...looking at this play through, the thing I'm struck by is the fact that the standard kick, a low kick is in fact a straight nut shot. I mean he's literally going through the game field goaling the testicles of everything with two legs, he kicked that boar-man in the last level so Hard, he spit up blood before he disintegrated and died.

I love that you're actually good at the game. Most playthroughs are by folks on emulator with a cheat set up and it's just a grind. Your skill is fun to watch.

I remember when this came out, one of the hardest games to beat especially with limited lives.

Yep my first also because I was introduced to Genesis through Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection :D. I was born in 93', so Sega was dying when I was gaming while Ps1 and Super Nintendo were dominating and thus growing up, it was either Super Nintendo or Ps1. I had a Super Nintendo back in the day and all I'd ever play on it was Super Mario World and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a beat em up game. Lol. Looking back, I would have preferred Genesis because I like their games a million times more than Super Nintendo games. I actually got a Genesis USB controller just for Genesis emulation games and I fell in love with the console. I now have a Genesis Megadrive 2 clone console, an SD card with 99% of Genesis games on it and I just got this game in the mail alongside a few other Genesis games. :)

Till this day one of my favorite sega games. Followed by golden axe

Coolest werewolves ever! I always loved the arcade and Sega Genesis versions. Arcade Werewolves do a Hadoken while Genesis ones shoot by punching. And I like that they speed kick in this version compared to the speed charge in the genesis version.

This was always one of my favorite games to play with my mom when I was a little kid. My favorite is the eyeball monster. Time to go watch Golden Axe.

I love this game back in the 80s and 90s.I never knew you could change into different animals.

For some reason even though I was born in 2004 my mum bought me a megadrive. It was weird as well because the controller was blue and the console was a black cube with a power button and red light. I still haven’t been able to find what she bought me. It didn’t even have a cartridge slot.

Wow...memories are coming back. What an experience.

I just watched this whole thing and I don't regret it!

I remember playing the Genesis port back in 91/92 on the Genesis 1 and 2

Remember this game from the horrible audio we had at home... everytime the boss encounter started... "WELCOMEEEEEE TO YOUR DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMAAAAAAH"

+Nonehasthisnamekek1 Never understood why arcade ports were always so shitty. Turtles in Time turned out great, but that's the only one I can immediately think of. What is so goddamn difficult about putting this stuff on a home console?

This game is simply a master piece. It's beautiful in all aspects.

+bign3ck There was recently a deal made between Stories Entertainment and Sega to adapt a number of their franchises for live action and animation, and this was one of the titles in the portfolio, so it might be happening. Shinobi was another, and I especially can't wait for that, this one, and Virtua Fighter!
