Thank you Mr Kent I'm a 16 year old boy who lives with just mom, so she's always over worked and can't teach me to cook. And schools no longer provide a home economic class that would teach me to cook. So thank you Kent for teaching me to cook

my dude, keep that work ethic. I grew up in a similar situation. you cannot possibly know right now just how much your mom appreciates what you are doing. now that my mom is in her late 70's and our roles are switched, the gratitude cannot be expressed in words when you come home from a crappy day of hard work to a warm meal and good company. much respect for taking care of what you can. I know it's not always easy or fun, but trust me, down the road, you will look back at this time with her as some of your favorite memories.

Never in my life have I put an egg in a batch of biscuits, or cooked them in a cast iron skillet. Never again will I do it any differently than this recipe. Beautiful, tender, crispy on the outside, and buttery are how mine turned out. I did not have cream of Tartar, so I added some vinegar to the mix, and they rose nicely. I love watching Kent cook, much like my grandparents did. Good stuff!

Thanks for another great cooking video. I cook biscuits like my mother taught me. I'm the middle of five sons and she could always use a hand in kitchen. My wife never minded me helping out either and I remain the official biscuit baker for the family. I do not recall seeing a recipe with egg or cream of tartar but I'm not to old to try something new that looks like a delicious alternative. BTW, it is a pleasure to hear Shannon in the background and see her on screen occasionally. It's clear you married up and it is obvious that you treasure her as a Christian husband should.

Biscuits and gravy (with sausage or pork steaks or bacon), fried eggs and fried taters every weekend. Whenever my Cali friends growing up would be at the house and have breakfast with us they would flip out over her cooking! Our neighbor who was originally from Pittsburgh PA laughed to Mom about how her boys kept going on and on about her cooking.

@Thomas-cx6cb I believe that you did have biscuits and gravy in California. Like my grandmother's newly-wed sister and her husband, who left Texas during the Dust Bowl of the Great Depression to answer the call for farm workers in the Central Valley of California, hundreds of others from farming and ranching families with roots in the South brought their recipes and methods of cooking with them on this trek. Their stories were what inspired Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. Even before that, those who went West during the Gold Rush, and after the Civil War, must have partaken of a version of this meal. My own great grandfather, from Arkansas, spoke of having sausage gravy and biscuits as a boy before the turn of the 20th century, on his family's journey to settle in Texas. He worked in the logging camps of East Texas as a mule skinner and a camp cook, and was known for his buttery, sourdough biscuits cooked in cast iron the way Cowboy Kent is showing us.

I’m a man and I can cook and will cook (I mean I feel like everyone should know how to cook because it’s a life survival skill. If for no reason except to know how, people should learn both male and female.) yet I’m surprised by the amount of people who don’t, won’t and can’t cook. If you are always first to the table you need to be first to a stove sometime too!
