Hey Wes, great video! An easy field guide for the lumber you will acquire from a straight log…. Multiply by 7 . 12” log on small end 12x7= 84 put a decimal point at the end of that 84. Move it one number to the left. Total cant size 8.4 inches. Today you cut your lumber inch and a half thick or 1.5 . Divide 8.4. By 1.5 = 5.6 or 5 boards. When sawing the stump off, a trick that I have seen, but not tried, is to saw with the top of the bar instead of the bottom. Doing it that way will leave the chips in the cut and keep the stump from sitting down as you cut. Don't have to put the wedge in to hold the stump up.

Give that cut off stump a year to get a bit of rot then go out, crack it apart for the fat-lighter down near the tap root. Just don't do what a friend of mine did, and build a fire on top of such a stump. The fire chased the roots out and kicked off a bit of a wild fire. It got contained after about 12 acres were good and burned, what really saved the day we as the river was up so the fire couldn't jump the gap.

I could probably put them up immediately, but just because I've got so much more stuff going on besides this, it'll probably be a month or sol Rule of thumb is one year per inch of thickness, but this is framing lumber so it's not all that critical.

The span is 14 currently, but I'm hoping to shorten that by at least a little, plus crowning the boards up will help.
