One day I had to find out I lost a piece of chrome trim of my Mercedes W126 500SE. My first thought was that I lost it at a car wash, but none of the ones I used had found a piece like this. So I started looking for this piece on the market and did find it. But this did not solve the issue. As I later found out that I lost the trim piece because the clamps had rusted off. After a long search I finally found someone who sold me some used but original clamps in usable condition. New learning: series I cars (like mine) have different clamps than series two cars ... so the parts did not fit. I ended up to buy a complete set of plastic trim, just to get 3 original clamps - which by way are not available from Mercedes anymore. In the end, all turned out fine. But as alway, it took weeks longer than I thought ... and cost a couple Euro more than expected.
