Enjoy. Drive. Repair.
In this channel I will report about all news and probably mostly shortcomings of my Mercedes oldtimer and youngtimer. The channel's focus is to share my joy with old cars. What they cost, how good they are and how great it is to use them as a daily driver. As I am not a mechanic, you can follow all the nonsense I try with non existing mechanical or electrical skill to keep the cars on the road. Some repairs, mostly quick fixes. So you will have a chance to learn some easy fixes and avoid the biggest mistakes with do it yourself repairs. So let us enjoy, drive and fix Mercedes youngtimer and oldtimer together.

I like w201... I have w203 270 cdi.
Come rain or shine.
Excellent English. 👍🏻🇩🇪✌️🏴 Had our 08/93 190E from almost new, and I shall have this oil and the differential oil changed. So much easier to drive on narrow roads than my Mercedes E Class; Estate T Wagon.
I totally agree. The E class is great, but the smaller size of the W201 is lovely.
Is it possible to do the flushing without the filter then add it at the end once the oil runs clear?
Technically, you could do that. But of course it would mean that the not fully exchanged oil will be circulating without a filter at the beginning. So I would rather not do that.
Just buy 2 filters. One for flushing and one for using :P
Awesome video! Stunning Mercedes, cars for life!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Carlos!
Hello there. :) Just got suggested your video,, most likely cause i am looking up w/c126 content..as i am in the process of getting myself one coupe 126 version :) And your car caught my eye...as it seems to be the 904 color..Dunkelblau? Beautifull color :) When it comes to storage of cars..especially KE/K jetronic cars...it is crucial to have it stored only with ethanol free gas(Ethanol in the gasonline makes it hygroscopic,,,drawing moisture into the fuel) And keep the gas tank full also. When it comes to starting the car...it is far better to leave it " unstarted" for the period. The amount of condensation accumulating from these cold starts, and not beeing able to drive the car...is alot, and it is not good for the engine/etc. Condensation accumulates in the engine crankcase, and also alot of it in the exhaust, and makes your exhaust rust "quicker" from the inside. So in my opinion,it is better to just leave the car sitting, and not think about it. This is of course considering that you have done these pre storage "things":...fill up gastank, more airpressure in the tires, maybe an airdrier bowl/ bag inside the car.Maybe charge the battery once in a while if you have the possibility. Things like this will make storing the car,far better for the car. Also replacing the oil and filter at least before you take it out..but also ideally change it before you store it,is a good thing to do...because of the acidics accumulated in the oil ,will in worst cases corrode the light metals inside the engine during storage. This is actually written in the owners manual for the Bmw 850 i... ( Replace all oils before and after storing the car :) Either way ...this is things i do when i store my hobby cars. You are welcome to check out my channel aswell, My Mercedes Benz hobby car these days,is a 1997 w210 E50 Amg, which i have done work on for four years..and i love it to bits. Greetings from Norway ,Stefan :) (Sorry for long comment :)
Thanks, Will do the same on my SL280 from 1997. Is there any particular reason you did it with open cover between the many changes? Little more work but less spillage if securing the cover between?
You are right. I was just lazy…
@@olafsoldtimer OK, thanks for reply, just had to check as never done this before.
@@olafsoldtimer I kind of understand....it takes many changes to get out the old oil this way, i know now:) It helps a bit to put a extension to the syringe so that you get everything out in the canister through the holes in the new filter, otherwise it will take endless amounts of changes.
👋🏼Noticed any difference, Does it make steering easier?
Yes, it did. Before it was rock hard when car did not move. Now it is not superb, but a lot better. But anyway, maintenance prolonges life of the parts.

Radbolzen nur von Hand einschreiben und dann mit den schlagschrauber. Sonst droht gewindefrass😂. WD 40 nicht auf die Bremsscheibe sprühen. Keramikpaste nach entrosten der Radnarbe sparsam verwenden. Sonst top!! LG Thomas
Lovely wheels! looking forward to hear from you how it changes the ride behaviour, perhaps a bit more comfortable when going over bumps?
I will keep you updated.
Hallo Olaf, good job. Beatifull whells on a beatifull car. Ciao.

Hi Olaf, I am planning to purchase a car just like this. Do you happen to have information about the Mercedes expert that you know in The Netherlands?
I am not 100% sure which expert you refer to. I once did an episode with Frans, but he's more enjoying his W115 220D ... The expert in NL I "know" is a guy who excels in repairing electronic devices like cruise control and other electronic card refurbishments. I unfortunately do not know a dealer there. If you look in Germany I can strongly suggest the Mercedes clubs, like the VDH "Verein der Heckflossenfreunde" who have specialists available for each classic Mercedes model like W110, /8, W123, ... and of course W126.
A job well done. Who would have known your reverse light switch had broken connections and was full of water... Fixing both problems with minimal parts was great. Thomas must be a good friend. Cheers.
The windscreen?
We poured so many liters of water, and couldn’t find the entry. Hm. I will keep watching
Was ist das eigentlich für eine Gurke... Du bist ja nur am Reparieren mein Lieber! 😉
Dafür läuft das Ding aber wie eine Eins.
Good content in general and especially interested in the 190E. I recently “finished” E30 325, and now just started with 190E 2.3 Azurro sportsline
Was für ein Spinner.
Hard working assistant.😊
oh dont you love work on your car outside in the cold😅
Hi, I hope this KZread video can help, it is for a W124, but the UK Haynes 190 workshop manual suggests its the same part in same location, quite possible as they share a lot of common parts. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lK1_tK6kkZDdebg.html I feel your pain, i too was lying on the cold wet driveway this weekend, to change exhaust down pipe on my daily driving 1988 W124 230.
Thank you! I am afraid this is the part. Not really looking forward to pull this one out …
@@olafsoldtimer It doesn't look much fun. good luck.
Regards from Athens Greece...❤
Here in northern Finland I use to take a few country road trips with my 420 SE when it is -20 celcius or colder. Then the roads are dry from salt. I have winter tires for the car. I drive always 100 km or more that the car warms up properly and the exhaust system warms and dries too. Otherwise I keep the car in a warm garage and keep battery charged (I don't know if this is necessary because W126 does not drain battery when standing). The sad thing is, that I always begin to think how good winter cars these are - very warm and comfortable. Safe to drive on slippery roads. Magnificent heater, automatically heated mirrors and washer, headlamp washers, seat heaters... But it would be sad to ruin these cars with every day use during winter because of rust. I know that these Bosch K/KE-Jet systems are designed to be in everyday use - these don't like long standing periods. And the quality of gasoline today with ethanol and all... It is essential to let these cars run every once in a while during off-season period. By the way - my W126 also starts always right up, like I have parked it yesterday. Actually every Mercedes I have owned has been similar. Never problems. 😊
I'm drifting with 560SEL
Keine Wahnsinnsmodifikation, sondern einfach Erhalt.
The backup light switch is located on the left side of the transmission. Cheers, Rob.
Ok, thank you!! I assume easy to access, only need some semi decent weather to get under the car?
You will be Ok...@@olafsoldtimer
Dang, I knew it. Back under the car I go. 5•C and rain
I was thinking about your car. Were you able to get your reverse lights working? I have to do the same job on my Volkswagen TDI. Cheers, Rob.@@olafsoldtimer
@@zambam3 not yet. Weather conditions got worse, update coming up soon. I need to get under the car and take a look at the switch an wiring condition. instagram.com/reel/C1vLD3BoJrX/?igsh=Z3Y4MjRqaTU0aWRy
Is there a line on that plastic thing to avoid overfilling?
If I remember correctly there are arrows on the center plastic part. You may fill to the tip of those. In other descriptions I found „20 mm under top of rim of reservoir“. I believe you don’t have to be over accurate. I filled as seen in the video and did not have any issue. But I will take a look now. So thank you for reminding me to check again.
Just went to check. Looks like if you go according to the arrows, you would fill the reservoir up to the rim. I would not recommend that as I would be afraid to generate some kind of pressure went hot. Better keep it to the 20 mm under the rim. As I said it worked fine for me and is still at that level.
@@olafsoldtimer Thanks a lot! I think so, I need to fill more a bit. When I opened the cap I smelled like burnt oil smell, probably is less oil for her.

@@robertbalogh3663 it should not smell burned… are you sure the pump is still working properly? Steering works normal?

Thank u for your video.i have a w201/ 2.5
New painting comes ??
Didn‘t talk to the owner yet. I think yes.
Talked to him. Yes, new paint. But first new doors in. Paint next spring. Plus new rear axle.
Do you know that “Oldtimer” in English refers to an old person and not an old car as in German? Just thought I let you know.
Hey, that perfectly suits my age, it makes the name of the channel even more fitting 😂.
