Description:Bhindi Aloo Ka Salan is a popular Indian curry recipe made with okra (bhindi), potatoes (aloo), and a flavorful salan sauce. This spicy and savory curry is a staple in many Indian households and is often served with rice, roti, or naan.
Ingredients:
- 250 gm okra (bhindi), cut into small pieces
- 2 medium potatoes (aloo), peeled and cut into small pieces
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
Instructions:
1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Let them sizzle for a few seconds.
2. Add onions, garlic, and ginger. Saute until the onions are translucent.
3. Add okra and potatoes. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Add coriander powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
5. Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the vegetables are cooked through.
6. Stir in lemon juice and adjust seasoning.
7. Garnish with cilantro, if desired.
8. Serve hot with rice, roti, or naan.
Tips and Variations:
- Use fresh and tender okra for the best results.
- Adjust the amount of chili powder to suit your desired level of spiciness.
- Add other vegetables like bell peppers or carrots to the curry for added flavor and nutrition.
- Use a pressure cooker to reduce cooking time.
- Serve with a dollop of raita (yogurt and cucumber sauce) to cool down the spiciness.
