Okhtyrka 🇺🇦 This city stopped Russian advance but paid a high price

The battle of Okhtyrka was among the most crucial during the early stages of Russian invasion to Ukraine. The city was besieged but never fell. Thanks to this Russian army was stoped from opening a new attack line on Kyiv from the East.
Local residents of Okhtyrka are real heroes. One of the coolest groups is a Youth Center NGO which works hard to bring life back in city.

Thank you for this visit to a town so close the border. And also to meet some of the people. It’s very kind of them to let you into their homes. But Winter is coming soon and I don’t see how these people can stay there. I think the mayor office will need to do a survey of apartments and find which are intact with walls and windows but perhaps people have fled and use Marshall law to assign people shelter during the winter. You can’t live in east Ukraine in January with holes in wall and no windows. Of course those flat will be given back to their owners. But if there is no heating then larger centers like Kharkiv and Sumy will need to make room for winter refugees

Courageous people. Winter will be upon us soon and the Ukrainian winters are very severe. People will have to realise that in order to survive they must move temporarily to somewhere less damaged that they can keep warm. When people in a neighbourhood go through such ordeals they become close and probably find it hard to leave each other to secure better temporary housing. Quite heartbreaking.

Such a profound hope-filled things you said in the midst of these losses; about building from scratch, free from leftover-shackles and remenants of the soviet-era culture of mistrust. Modern and transparent !

There are lots of people who don't realize how many buildings will be unlivable in the winter. Even the unbroken buildings will freeze if they got heating from that power plant. This is only one city of many similar. I haven't seen much news of this subject. Maybe millions of people need to move to other countries during the winter or some other shelters in the country.

It is a very huge and a very hard responsible task for the government and for the local authorities to provide shelter for the winter for the people which still live in unsafe houses. I hope president Zelensky knows about such situations and work with local authorities to find solutions...such as building some big tents with rooms just like the army ones, asking locals who want to shelter each person during winter, locate-find-and takeover buildings from rich/arrested corrupted ones.. such as that *mansion* which I'm sure can host few families with basic renovation, and so on. You guys need local politicians with a strong attitude and determination to find temporary shelters for the people for winter. Elections will come and they'll ask for people's VOTE, let's see how resourceful and dedicated to their well-paid jobs are the local authorities NOW when people need their help. Edit : People have to be more aware of this, also about the fact that very soon they will be EU citizens with more rights. Slava Ukraina from Romania !

22:12 Maybe better evacuate all in early wintertime to the southwest, to prevent the risk of starving, dying of freeze. 🫶
