@@Iknown-mh1cs I used to be really militant about veganism when I first came to it, but you know what I discovered? The superiority-complex and moral high ground stuff doesn't actually help our cause. Because it doesn't come from a place of genuine love from the heart for other people; and we should care about being compassionate and leading by the example of loving others first if we seek to educate. When we speak from love, that's when people listen. I would venture that there's some deeper things going on in your life that are driving you to demand perfection from yourself and from others and I pray you can heal from whatever trauma is hurting you💝 Maybe like me, you had a controlling parent who expected the impossible from you, and now you expect that of yourself and others too. Please remember, that God Himself does not demand perfection from us. That is a powerful realization if you really take it in. I want you to consider this scripture: "How can you think of saying, ‘Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye." (Luke 6:42) I hope you understand the meaning. No one is perfect, and when we expect perfection, that actually makes us hypocrites. Expecting others to do what we ourselves are incapable of. Another verse I like, in which the speaker is talking to a group of men who want to stone a woman to death because she has committed adultery, is: “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” (John 8:7) You see, none of us would be able to throw that stone at her because we are all sinners. Imperfect. May God bless your heart and heal whatever is hurting you, my friend🙏 May He open you up to realizing that nobody on this Earth is perfect, and that in spite of our imperfections He still loves us very very much. More than we can even comprehend. He treasures you, and values you and you don't ever have to work for that love because it's unconditional 🥰 God bless you and give you peace today, in Jesus' name, Amen🙏

Hannah, a story from another vegan mom raising a little vegan boy. We had a fall festival at his preschool a few weeks ago and he had a cupcake that he thought was vegan and wasn’t. Later he asked ‘Am I still a vegan?’ I told him yes. Reflecting on it, I’m more grateful that a four year old asks about what’s in his food leading to better nutrition questions and decisions. Thank you Hannah!

This hits so close to home. Thank you for this, Hannah. I went full vegan 6 years ago thanks to you and your sister, but things got messy with family, finances, and finding community that was non-judgmental (undortunately). I've been back and forth a lot for many reasons, but still keep the plant-focused goal in sight. My five kids aren't fully vegan anymore, but still love their tofu, tempeh, lentils, and chickpeas, fruit and veggies. This video sure helps me with the guilt I feel daily for not being perfect vegan. Thank you!

It’s really hard having to face a judgemental community. I think this is one of the most common reasons for not staying vegan. Kudos for continuing to do your best and remaining plant focused. I imagine it’s harder as children grow older and have their own opinions on ethics…at a certain point, especially if they’re educated on animal industries, parents have to give them the freedom to make their own decisions outside the home.

I got a woolknitted sweater at a swap party (for free, someone else didn’t needed or wanted it anymore) and I love it! It’s my favorite winter jumper. I also bought a pair of leather boots a year before I went vegan and they are still going strong in their eights year this winter. If I had bought „plastic“ boots they wouldn’t have lasted a year (I walk a lot, sometimes 18 km a day, I don’t own a car..) so what is more suistainable is sometimes a compromise.

Fellow Idahoan and former vegan! We raise our own meat birds, eggs, pigs and dairy goats! I was vegan as a child and into my 40’s! I know the life my animals live, the food and care they get! I think the whole “ I’m …..” labeling and cult like mentality around food/diets is seriously exhausting and is part of the division/hate in this world, IMHO! Our bodies change and allowing one’s self to change their diet is normal and healthy! Plants are Alive, Living creatures that have way more abilities than most(even diehard vegans) are aware of! They communicate, sense and feel, many researchers have proven this! For me, it’s awareness that for my life to sustain and continue another’s must end (plant or animal)……..the life that food source had (organically non gmo ethically humane natural life) is what is most important to -*me and for my family! As a RN, true health and medicine is our foods! Quality, organic and true homeostasis of all ecosystems is what creates health of Mother Earth and US humans! Be well everyone & let’s stop the division!!! ✌🏻🫶🏻💫

Then I got pregnant…a Hyperemesis pregnancy with gestational diabetes (out of my control/I was very active and home cooked most meals)… If I ate non-berry fruits, my blood sugar spiked through the roof. I was nauseous and vomited through most of the pregnancy. If I ate lentil soup, same thing with blood sugar. The only thing I could stand that didn’t affect my blood sugar were eggs, nut butters, cheese. Didn’t eat much meat, but still, couldn’t have had a vegan pregnancy with my condition. :(

While having an entirely vegan world is something I would love to see, as I don’t like the thought of an animal having to be killed or used for products, the truth is that we are far from that world..and trying to force perfectionism only backfires. If someone is mainly plant based but feels like they can’t give up eggs for breakfast or something..it’s definitely better to go with what they feel like they can do! I could not agree more with what you’ve said here. Even though I spent my whole life eating some version of a plant based diet (plant based, flexitarian, pescatarian, vegetarian), it wasn’t until my late twenties that I finally felt like I wanted to claim the vegan label. The reason being that, until then, I hadn’t fully made the ethical connection and I wasn’t ready to fully abstain from all animal products. Up until that point, I still bought the occasional leather, silk, wool, beeswax, dairy, and honey. I didn’t start calling myself vegan until I’d really decided that I wanted no part in those industries due to the animal cruelty and exploitation involved. But it was a lot of little steps I took along the way. I didn’t go from the daily support of animal agriculture/industries to full on abstinence. It was a decades long process. Every journey begins with a single step. And even thouhg I’ve been vegan for 5+ years, I’m still not perfect. I’ve accidentally bought foods with dairy and eggs. I’e had the occasional glass of wine, not knowing whether or not it was vegan. I accepted a leather bound book once which was given to me as a gift (non returnable).

If you're not a full vegan yet but are working towards it (yay! every animal you don't eat is wonderful) please call yourself Plant- Based. Calling yourself vegan when you are not fully vegan is confusing to everyone and waters down the vegan message for others (and the animals).

The meaning of the word Vegan seems to be misunderstood. If you can’t be ethical in your choices just call yourself mostly plant based. I find being vegan so easy, as I don’t view animals as food in any way. I’m 62 and have been vegan for only 8 years, I’m also an advocate for animals and my activism is important to me. My only regret is that I wasn’t vegan from birth. The thought of putting any flesh or secretions from animals in my body really turns my stomach.
