This made my day! We (the defenders) were playing RTW2 while the attackers where playing some sort of game involving magic, bringing tortoises on barbarian settlement + some of their units levitating, as Joe noticed! :)) By the way it was the Epirus player that brought them! I and the spartan player were like WTF! :))

yep good old tortoise glitch, we always just concede and kick them or the cav glitch that acts as a tortoise and make multiple break points

An additional thing, Epirus's towers wouldn't work, they'd glitch at the wall (too tall). But! Those tall towers have ballista on top. Epirus was keeping them facing the other way to keep them from using their ammo I bet, and brought them in after, when everyone was lined up in that choke. At their height, they can do a ton of damage on a barb map. Like giant, elevated, free ballista. I wish there was a way to tell how many kills they got... I've seen this several times. Sometimes, they don't have torts, just towers, and so they've got no way in. Defenders can glitch mobile art into their lineups too, if they can't normally bring them, with the same exploit.

I did this during a random game a few months ago. I was using Epirus, and if I remember correctly, forgot to change my equipment when using a saved army setup. It was either that or I set it up and then the map was changed. Either way, game members knew about it and wouldn't let me use them. So I didn't. I remember I had the wrong towers as well and had to use the other team member's towers.

Barbarians *looking at burning building* meh it increases the property value.

As I wrote in another comment if you did not both agree on this tortoise thing beforehand then I would consider it as cheating, as it gave the attackers a big advantage. Using multiple times the same tortoise to destroy a big part of the wall in a settlement that was designed not to be able to do so, means that they did not have to land units using towers which makes them more vulnerable and allows them to transfer mobile artillery inside the settlement with full ammo to use them as shotguns. This surely made a big difference. If you both had agreed on it then ok.

Thinking about it, a battering ram like a tortoise would be really ineffective against the types of walls on barbarian settlements. The walls on barbarian settlements are earth-bermed, with rammed earth packed behind the stone wall. Hits from a battering ram would be less effective against this type of wall because the energy of the ram's impact would be dissipated into the earth and ground behind the wall. Whereas, with a standing stone wall, the battering ram is impacting a rigid surface, and the entirety of the energy of the ram impact is absorbed by the wall... the impact energy has nowhere else to dissipate. It's similar to the blocking power of a metal sheet vs a sand bag for a bullet. The sandbag has better stopping power for a bullet, because the energy of the impact is dissipated into moving thousands and thousands of sand particles. Whereas, the bullet impacting the metal plate, has all of the bullet's energy delivered to the plate and inflicts more damage to the plate--the plate has less stopping power.... I'm not explaining it correctly, I'm certain.

Pretty well said. Lawyer here, not an engineer. But, I would hypothesize that the battering ram would actually serve to pack the earth and serve to reinforce the barbarian walls.

Factions who can bring tortoises to siege battles can NOT bring them to barbarian settlements. Its part of the game. The guy who brought them in this battle glitched them in, which is cheating.

Other than being a super cheesy exploit/glitch BS that doesn’t make sense physics wise, what about the torus on a barb settlement do you find scary? Do you feel the maps are set up different than walled settlements as far as the inner streets go? Do barb settlements have more open space maybe making a breach harder to block? . Either way poor move from the attackers for glitching the game like that. Weak play in my opinion.

One of the things that make Barbarian settlements unique is that you can't bring torts. Its easier to get into a settlement when you knock down a ton of walls. Also it looked like those torts were able to hit more than 1 wall there. Thats a little scary and op in my opinion.
