Oil Pressure Gauge Repair

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Repairing an oil gauge with a stuck needle from my 1959 John Deere 830-Industrial. Also comparing the accuracy of the old original gauge to a new aftermarket gauge. Which is more accurate?

I would trust the old one. I replaced some gauges on my JD630 and got them from Evergreen Restoration. They look like the original ones and I think he calibrates them.

I'm going to reach out to them. It appears most people have nothing but good to say about evergreen.

Evergreen restorations is the only place I’ll go for gauges. You won’t find a more accurate gauge not just in functionality but in appearance as well!

That seems to be a common theme from commenters: evergreen gauges are the best.

The cheaper aftermarket gauges seem to be of very questionable quality, and often they read wrong for their application, some have 15PSI for high, others like yours is supposed to be 25PSI. Some of them aren't even one of those. I've used Evergreen Restoration gauges for years. They are made to match originals, and are calibrated right. I'd trust your original before the other.

Diesel 2 cylinders used a higher psi gauge than the gas ones. I usually look for NOS or get evergreen gauges also. Aftermarket might read ok for a year or two but slowly start reading lower over time

Part number AF-2729-R is specific to the diesel tractors. I'm curious if it is an assumption that the aftermarket gauges give faulty readings after time, or have you experienced this?

All the aftermarket gauges are all over the place and not very good quality. Jerry Trcka at Evergreen Restorations has the best gauges hands down.

I think I'll reach out to him too see if evergreen can spruce up (pun intended) my old gauge and verify it's working correctly.

If you’ll do a search of “Rochester” oil pressure gages , you’ll find Rochester makes them for Oliver & Farmall also. With part # on the face in small print (I keep my magnifying lens close for that small print) 😃👍😉

I think I trust both of them. Judging how the original went back down to 0 smoothly. They both went close to the same place on the gauge .... For me it's coming down to the fitting on the back that fits the tractor I think.

The fitting on the back is the real deal buster. I just don't want to have to mess around with changing fittings and pressure lines. I'm going to stick with the original.

I'm not familiar with Stewart Warner. I'll have to do some reading. I heard from a different commenter that Deere gauges were built by Rochester. The could have been several suppliers over the years.

One thing is for sure, the old original gauge has held up over 65 years. So they were definitely made with quality in mind!
