Follow along as I review the classic set of Kuelox oil pastels sent to me from Lightwish. Oil pastels can be tricky to use if you have not tried them before, so I go over some basic practices to follow so you can be successful incorporating them into your mixed media artwork. Do you think you will try oil pastels in your mixed media? Why or why not?

I don't care to use them because most of what I make are cards, or postcards. The oil pastels transfer when people handle them.

I purchased some oil pastels a few months ago and have used them over watercolor paintings and I really do like the special touch they add to the painting. I mostly use them to draw shapes and make marks so I haven’t blended them yet, so now that I saw you demonstrate that, I’ll try it. So yes, I’ll use them in my mixed media projects because it gives some diversity and I’m always up for some new ways to add interest to my projects! Thanks for sharing!

Do you have to put some kind of fixative on top to keep pages from sticking to each other?

Yes, oil pastels never really 'dry' but they harden over time. You can use a fixatif for oil pastels or put a sheet of wax paper between the pages.
