This, of course is a rather lovely way to go about it! I am looking to finally start painting after decades dreaming of becoming a painter and will forever return to this brilliant saying!

Very good.
I cannot tell you how wonderfully helpful your tutorials are. Thank you so much, Stuart, for your generosity.
Love your work. Your mention of teaching just reminded me of sculpture class in my first week at art school when I was 17, the tutor stood for a silent eternity looking at my effort and thinking he was impressed I asked what he thought. He said, "It's the most boring thing I've ever seen" and walked away leaving me very confused and hurt. I was a kid. Perhaps it taught me to explain criticism when I was head of several art departments in my career. You teach so well. I am trying still to loosen up after decades of commercial art. Thank you for your inspiring painting and commentaries.
Watching your videos is like yoga for my brain! I love so many things about them. I struggle with the 'artist's eye' where you can see what needs to happen and what to do next. I especially love the freedom with which you paint - "the mess"... It's hard for me to get out of the mindset to make sure I color within the lines thinking. Thank you for your British humor and polite positive demeanor.....and sharing your vulnerability! It's uplifting! I look forward to every video.
People like you make me wish I'd be in Britain! I absolutely adore your art and videos!
Great video. I don't paint myself, but mum does all sorts, including oils. I will show her your channel.
This the first time I've seen your video and your amazing style of teaching coupled with your very interesting life experiences that create lasting impressions in the mind. I am a beginner, barely 3 months old in my painting journey. But I am far advanced in age, 80. I was surprised that all of a sudden I just wanted to paint. I watch tutorial sessions of as many painters like you, who so unselflessly share their God-given talents. I learned a lot of your cloud making technique. I really have difficulty doing realistic clouds and trees. I appreciate wonderful painters like you who understand and seemingly feel the growing pains of "baby painters". I hope that my hand can dance like a balerina with the brush on a canvass. Someone told me I should not apologize for the pieces I have done but should own what i have finished. I had taken that advice to heart and I review again and again whatever I have done and I start redoing the crazy, ugly, funny features I placed in what I called my painting. Every piece of work that I do I iken to a child I have given birth to, I honesty search and search for my errors and I want to make it right. I became critical of my work so I could honestly observe my errors to hopefully produce something better and better each day. Truly I agree with what you said that you tell your students what is wrong and advise them how to do it right. I do not have the privilege of an amazing, excellent coach to guide me. I will continue to watch your videos again and again to get the feel of a teacher beside me. I am from the Philippines. I enjoy the fun and excitement and joy of seeing how I have improved in these 3 months journey. My grandchildren, my children and friends enable and inspire to me to go on and on and practice daily. I praise God for the creative gift of painting He gave you and I thank you for your generosity. I pray that you would be able to overcome the allergy that suddenly appeared in your body. God bless you abundantly always. I love your style of painting, i love your generosity in sharing, I love your style of tutoring, I love you (as your Mom) with the love of the Lord.

Bonjour de France, de Bretagne plus précisément. J'aimerais beaucoup voir ce que vous peignez, je suis très curieuse. 🙂 C'est un beau commentaire que le votre. Amicalement, Laurette.
This tutorial is immensely practical and helpful. Thank you!
You are such a delight!!! I love your sense of humor and your amazing talent!!
You have not only driven the stilted feeling out of my landscapes but also made my abstracts so much better. I just love your comforting voice leading the viewer to a much better place and a much more believable vista. Your idea of letting go and enjoying a more relaxed depiction makes so much sense. Like you I am obsessed with a sky that is not too settled, often in flux and usually at dawn or dusk. Possibly my biggest advantage was that nobody realized I was extremely nearsighted until I was 13 so I had the advantage of seeing life in a out of focus view. I was drawing from as soon as I could hold a pencil and have painted for 60+ Years. I was denied an art education but have taken dozens of workshops over the years which gave me an easier time developing my own conglomerate of style. I paint every day and look forward to watching your videos; you tend to relax me and remind me always to paint loosely and with joy....I thank you!
Thank you Stuart,I have now finished several landscapes using your method. What fun they are to paint.I don't sell my paintings these days but give them away to friends if they like them and several have gone already obviously 77 years old is not to old to learn something new.
A great teacher, relaxed and comfortable and no pretensions. Thank you!
I can almost smell the rain & hear the distant thunder. Lovely work! I especially like the contrast made with the pink & bluish gray clouds. The scene is so realistic. Isn't it wonderful how simple contrast in lighting & color can create such dramatic displays? I love it! Thank you Mr. Davies.
Stuart Davies+ Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. Love the way you chat as well :). The difference between you and some other artists is that there are those who do not like sharing but indulge in showing off with time lapse and when asked about colours and brushes used they just ignore one; this reflects how insecure they are within themselves. And then... there are artists like yourself who enjoy teaching which shows confidence and generosity of spirit. Thank you Stuart Davies. I am learning so much from your videos.
Fantastic atmosphere as always Stuart, I love watching your free and loose painting style with the large brushes, really expressive and dynamic and with great sensitivity in the brush strokes too. Thanks so much, and for the wry commentary ;-)
OMG! You are so hilarious when you are talking to your computer. In the best way. That is part of the success of these videos. You are a human!! And a great painter.
Thank you for uploading this painting Stuart it has been very instructive to watch the landscape emerge and the sky and clouds with rain
I love your paintings and your comments, thank you!! 💙
Love your sense of humor and how you create amazing landscapes! 😊
The combination of watching you painting, developing it - or does the painting develop itself - and your stories (especially the 'skeleton one') is great.
Can't get enough of watching you paint.....thanks for the wonderful videos!!
Thank you, Stuart ... It's always a pleasure to see the process ... the twists and turns ... Again, thanks.
I do too. Unravel the mysterious adventure in your world of paint on canvas. Loved it. Very pretty colours as well.
You have a very nice way of thinking:) Thank you for the video, it's so helpful to see the actual process of unraveling the colours and shapes and not just the finished product. I'm excited again to make some paintings soon!! Love from the Netherlands!!
I absolutely love your relaxed process.! I can't wait for another.
The illusion of detail video got me hooked to your style I wanna learn as much as possible, your paintings are amazing. I think this painting is my new favorite.
I have been following you for some time now Stuart and my painting has come on leaps and bounds, in fact i am now teaching beginners in the same style at my local art club. Taking a large canvas and using large decorators brushes forces one to loosen-up and I instantly took to it. Can't thank you enough.
Enjoyed this one very much! Both for the ASMR and for the painting itself.
A great tutorial, thank you. This is a totally different way of painting for me and I am so looking forward to “having a go”.
Thank you very much Stuart you are amazing you don’t draw you don’t even paint you just play with the colours and reach a fantastic result 👍🏻💐
Wonderful painting ty for sharing. I enjoyed finding the paintings light source develop over time
Beautifully done Stuart and a wonderful tutorial.. i am loving the colour's and atmosphere on this.
Lovely! So fun to see you so free and let the painting come alive. Thank you Stuart
Stunning! My eye is captivated and drawn into the depth of that landscape especially on the mid section right. Amazing! Thx for sharing!
I have been a photographer for years and I'm in a gallery but, a photograph is not enough to capture what I see. Living by the sea there are such dramatic skies that are unlike any over land. I need to paint and paint I shall. Your style, especially your skies, has been an inspiration to me, to capture what my cameras can not. Thank you.

Love that blue in the lower right corner of the sky very nice. Wonderful sky
Was two-thirds of the way through a painting and come to a big block trying to make everything perfect keep looking at the painting and couldn't pick up the brush so started looking at some different tutorials and came across yours and man am I glad I did you don't know how much I needed to hear that it's just a painting, Relax and enjoy it, have fun I could go on and on but I won't bore you, I'll just say thank you thank you very much😎
So good to see another painting by you Stuart, thanks!
I’m feeling ill and am struggling to sleep but watching and listening to your videos is so soothing and helping me doze a bit. 😴
I love this painting! Dramatic skys are so beautiful!

Enjoy your channel enormously . Love your dry quiet humor, oh, and your paintings are not too shabby either x

Your philosophy about teaching and learning is very helpful to me, and the "just do it" is right on, many times I felt that I couldn't start. The lightness of self criticism to just change what isn't working, is so great.
I love this guys voiceover and painting. Don't ever apologize for being you Stuart your a gem
Thank you. I love this style. First time and not the last. So beautiful
I love the answer.." Because I can, because I want to"..one of my personal reasons to do as much painting as I can..to find freedom from controls that people and society places.. as well within.. You must be really enjoying, and inspired with all the meteorological phenomenons manifesting in our skies in these times!! Im learning oils at this time, dabbling but seriously wanting good work, and ive already learned valuable things and practical things from listening to your tutorials. New sub, too
As usual it's a pleasure to watch your art works. Thanks.
That's a real painting and a true art, gentlemen. One of the rare small islands of a true art on the internet where you can escape from all the mediocrity and boredom, and to finally feel safe and complete. Thanks to Stuart.
Thankyou Very Much for sharing your talent. These tutorials have helped me improve my paintings and are a pleasure to watch.
Always makes me smile. Thank you
Intrigued and delighted at your style. Your voice and clear instruction is a pleasure to hear. Off to find more..........!👍

I loved being lost in this one Stuart, my approach to landscape mirrors yours in that I just get some paint down and sort it out as I go along. Many thanks for sharing.

Hi Stuart, I love your work, the skies are totally beautiful. The videos are excellent and I have learnt so much, thank you
This is beautiful and mesmerizing. I’m going to try it!
I'm following since a few month now, many videos I watched twice. I really love them!
This video has everything: skeletons in closets, a landscape, dramatic tricolour skies, and of course great words of wisdom to incorporate into my next follow along attempt.
another wonderful tutorial. I really enjoy your talks. Informative with bits of humor. thank you.
I felt your absence and was delighted to see this new video in my youtube feed. Then I was sad to hear that you'd not been feeling well. Then was glad to know that you are recovering and feeling better! You provide such a lovely, simple yet profound and gentle guidance that is tempered by your keen wit which is all-at-once dry, a bit cheeky, self-deprecating and politely defiant. Simply charming. I followed the link in your description to check out your mystery novel and will be adding it to my kindle collection. I browsed through some of your reader reviews and was blown away by their eloquence and enthusiasm in praise of your writing style. Congratulations on the auspicious beginnings of what has every indication of evolving into a successful writing career. You're on a roll, man! 👏👏👏👍😊❤😻👽🎨🛸
Love Love the way you paint. I have loved clouds since I was a child. I Love the drama and movement in your paintings. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent!
Thank you Stuart, enjoyable and informative as usual. You are a great teacher, your wit, genuineness and commentary made a great start to my Sunday here in Australia. I may even take up painting again after 30 years or so.
I have enjoyed watching you paint very much! You have a real knack for explaining your thoughts about what you are doing on the canvas😀 I do enjoy your “tales” while painting. Not distractive at all. I have just recently found you and I am so glad. I feel like I have learned quite a bit from your lessons💕💕💕 Thank you for sharing your beautiful paintings with us.

Just absolutely beautiful! Honestly loved it from the fourth brush stroke!
I truly enjoy your attitude of freedom in your style of painting and the illusion of detail. I'm fascinated that you are painting on prepared plywood and not canvas and your use of very large brushes. Thank you for your time.
My God Stewart, just when I think it can't get any better your paintings become more and more fabulous. I'm addicted now! Thank you for it all!
Such a lively composition and well brought to life. Thank you I really enjoyed it .
Truly magic the way this painting evolves - the dramatic sky, the landscape with the illusion of detail. Very inspiring! Scary about the food allergies, glad you’re ok. Can’t wait until the next video.
love your videos stuart! i'm always amazed at how your clouds just come to life when you use your pasting brush. i am going to try that technique. your videos are very informative too; great instruction, description and great stories as well. thanks for sharing!!
Excellent work Stuart I’m amazed what can be achieved with a large brush and palette knife
Fantastic video. Informative and entertaining. I could listen for hours. Thank you Stuart!
I love the "movement" as you say in the sky. I have not been able to achieve this effect, but with your instruction I believe I will be successful. Thank you so much for talking us through this. painting. Your stories are much appreciated.
Mr Davies these videos are great between you and the happy guy I found a great hobby that I'm actually good at and enjoy thank you very much sir
Just AWESOME and Beautiful! Love your videos. I love skies and have always wanted to be able to get the jaw-dropping effects. You make it look so easy! You inspire me to try again. Thank you😊
Hi, I am Sopit Todhunter, retired and live in Bedford. What I like the most about your painting is that you create distance. I call million dollar view. I just start to paint and now I have learned how to make the cloud move and distance lake. Thanks for sharing this. Definitely, it enticed me to know more about your work.
I enjoyed your commentary very much!! Thank you ! Your paintings are beautiful.
Wonderful demo; wished I could loosen my style.
Thank you so much for your very informative videos, I am mesmerized by how you portray skies , landscape and simplify use of colors I am so very motivated using your technique. I had to quarantine in Montreal for two weeks in order to be able to see my family and used my time practicing and painting. It was one of the best time of my life. Hope you are well and am looking forward to you continuing sharing your wisdom 😊
Wow! I enjoy the 'ride' ...good company...excellent work! Love it!
Great stuff Stuart. I followed this video today and was pleased with the result. I’ve never painted using this technique before but really enjoyed it. I’ll be back to try another one in the coming days!
Thanks Stuart. I like your painting style. A little less focus on doing everything so perfectly and exacting. Its refreshing and I enjoy painting this way! Thanks again from the US.
Love the style and great contrast of colours
I absolutely love your skies Stuart. I agree 100%. Skies are all about drama👌🏼
Thank you for all of these you do. I am going back and watching ones that are suggested to me.
I absolutely love your paintings.... thanks for sharing...
So refreshing to hear an English accent. Love the style too! Definitely going to have a go
In the US we say: “he can talk your ear off” You, however have a soothing voice that is a pleasure. And stating the obvious if lovely. ❤️
Love the colors in this one, the blues against that pink is fantastic! : ) Very inspiring!
Awsome landscape painting Stuart. Thank you for sharing
Just discovered you and your method and style! What a difference (in a positive way) you are going to make to my painting. I just love your 'chatter' while you work, very refreshing being 'talked to' and 'not at'. Thank you.
A truly inspiring result, and reallly liked the why's and how's. Take care.
The sky reminds me of Monie's sunrise painting. Thank you, my creative impression.
Lovely stuff Stuart. I wish I could free up my arm and my mind to paint like this!
