Mr. Davies, I believe this is your best video ever! Your story-telling abilities match your amazing artistic abilities, and this video was totally charming as well as informative and inspiring. I wish you'd stop worrying about your shoulder, your demos are very well filmed, and I haven't seen any comments from anybody complaining about your shoulder. I've spent months at a time struggling to paint every little detail of landscapes from reference photos, and yesterday I got up the courage to try your method, and in under an hour came up with a lovely little landscape from imagination that looks very detailed indeed - I am thrilled about it, and thank you so much for sharing your methods with the tense and struggling of us. It will be great to have painting become fun again. Thanks again, from the southwestern U.S.

I'm in southwestern US too. I'm going to try this loose method to painting our big skies and desert. Need bigger brushes!

@@tinlidtoo6615 I will need bigger brushes too, but in the meantime, I'm using smaller boards, so I can use smaller brushes! Wanted to try with what I have and see what happens first! Good luck to you if you try this method - it really is fun and freeing. Hope to try it out soon on the mountain range in my back yard!

I was struggling with trees for some time, then one night the cat walked all over a panel I had drying on the floor. Something about the cat's reckless inattention to detail and spontaneity sparked an epiphany for my tree painting style, and I've never looked back. Thanks Garfield and thanks Grandpa 👍😀

This one is a gem Stuart! Brings me back to my younger days when I was a little boy travelling across country with my family, I would just be looking at miles and miles of landscapes from the different states here in America. The dessert was so beautiful at different times of the day. I would stay awake while my siblings were sleeping and enjoy all the colors and even the rain clouds. 7 days in a car going coast to coast, I saw so much of your type of scenerys that you paint. Finding you on You Tube was meant to be, thank you for teaching all of us artists this style of oil painting! ALOHA!❤️🤙

Your voice is so relaxing to listen too. I'm setting on the floor with my 6th month old grandson and he's watching you as well.

Wonderful advice - 'Start with a mess and unravel it' - so encouraging.

I attempted to perform Mr. Davies' technique with acrylic. I could not emulate the technique no matter how much I attempted to keep the paint moist. Of course, I do live in Arizona & the air is quite dry with low humidity. I think I will eventually surrender my acrylics and buy oils, following Mr. Davies' technique. How I wish I could attend classes in Bordeaux, but sadly due to Covid-19, there is no opportunity for me to travel & attend, at least for now. For all those who are subscribed to Stuart Davies KZread, consider yourselves lucky. Creativity will help us all to keep sane when confronted with a life-altering crisis. Cats also help! Ok, so do dogs! Thank goodness for our pets!! Thank you & God bless, Mr. Davies!

No strict rules, breaking chains in our mind, As we witness, professional, experienced painter sharing his discovery of a beautiful illusion, happening in front of our own eyes, we develop a trust in our own power and slowly we become less stiff . We are given permission to find , in us a creator , a painter and permission to use any tool, which can help us, in that process ( ie.paper towel, plastic plate, hardware store brush, etc ) Amazing .Thank you Stuart ( Stu - ART)

The sky with the big dark cloud in this painting is amazing and very beautiful, I love it!!! There is more and more interesting information and the biggest thanks for publishing your stories and thoughts! I am also left-handed, but I write with my right hand, with my left I write exactly in the mirror image, and already in school I thought that if I were to break my wrist, I would write with my left hand from right to left and then I would be able to read through the glass. I can also write with two hands at the same time, but then the text runs from the middle in two different directions - with the right hand to the right, with the left hand to the left. I can draw and paint with two hands, but I cut bread with my left hand. The story about painting the portrait and how the cat played a part in it was pretty funny, but having a cat myself, I totally get it. Thank you a lot!!!

I could watch & listen to you for hours your relaxed style really encourages me to try paint like you.I think I can do it when I start but then some of it goes wrong, I don't give up but pause your tutorial to try again.Great tip on cleaning oil brushes it definitely works Thanks for that. Start with a mess I love it....

I use the trays from the meat we buy. I wash them and when I use them to mix my paints. when I finish, I throw it away. Love those.

Great painting. At the middle, I sawed you painted mass clouds and very nervous, worried you may failed this painting. Finally I saw you changed everything and learned loosely not stick painting, not repeat brush too much, et al. So good, thx.

Another enthralling edition, Stuart, thank you. Can you imagine, however, my frustration at the realisation of what I've done wrong with my own latest painting? In this case the 'flatness' you referred to. I have a large board on my easel, almost finished thought I. It is now fully dry, the skyscape, I think, rescuable - but the landscape will see my large brushes again and, maybe, again. It does, however, give me the opportunity to experiment again!

Can you do a video or give any tips on achieving perspective and depth? Especially in the sky. It’s difficult to make the sky look like it’s not flat behind the landscape if that makes sense.

I really like the contrast of color and light and dark. Very well done! I have a hard time bringing the light into the dark or the dark into the light without having it look unnatural as you have done again. Also love the green in the sky, it looks so real.

Great advice on starting with a mess. Now I need to get brave and try it myself lol.

Wondeful picture & an amazing sky & lots more painting ideas from you. I've 2 cats and they always seem to want to gravitate towards my pallet 😀. That's such sound advice about starting with a mess, I do this all the time and it seems to produce some great brush strokes and colour combinations to get those ideas flowing. I'd love to see you paint some woodland & garden scenes sometime 🐈🌲🌱🌼

I don't need a grandpa but you sure have a soothing and calm voice that makes me feel comfort... like being surrounded with a big hug. I love to paint! I am not good at it but I don't care it makes me feel good, I start with a mess and usually end with one too. No big deal just pull out an old canvas and start over again. It's not the end result that counts it's the doing. IMO

This painting method reminds me so much of one of my favourite painters of all time: - Joseph Mallord - William Turner I hope I did not offend you with that in any way... if so, my deepest apology. It´s just...that I´d recently visited a WilliamTurner exhibition here in germany, a week ago. It was a dream come true for me, as I wanted to see his paintings for so many years now. And be able to see 90 original paintings of him ( oil, watercolours and some sketchy ) was a rather impressive experience for me. Some of your paintings do remind me so much of him. You have a godsend talent and the ability to encourage others to start painting aswell. Thank you. Sincerely all the way from germany

I completely agree about your comment on the idea of painting in loose style. I think some of my best works were started and completed in one sitting. In fact some of them were finished in under 30 minutes.

Your an inspiration

I am new to painting with no training. I always drew. with pencil but wanted to paint.So now I am painting but I get frustrated with a section of the painting sometimes and the first time I just took paper towels and wiped that section off I thought I had made a mess of it but when I went on with painting over it ,it all turned out fine and I breathed a little easier and smiled and went on painting. I was afraid to admit that I had done this. But "no harm done , ahhh" now I know. Thanks.
