Oil lamps at the cabin, 2 Angle lamps and 1 Aladdin

A look at my two wall mount Angle lamps, one Angle chandelier, and one Aladdin lamp. Also one of the reasons I’m so fond of oil lamps with a reading of trip a Little light fantastic from Walt. Disney’s Mary Poppins returns. written by: Marc Shaiman / Scott Wittman

Thank you. I did not know. When I didn’t do this step it was building up soot on the mantle. But when I did this step it cleaned off all the soot. Much appreciated.
Great Story! Thanks
You are truly a Lightworker! That is what they do! They help light the spark in the hearts of others. Take care! Thank you.
oh my goodness! lighting that lamp up was magic!! SO bright!! How cool is that!! I've got a few 12 or so old oil lamps and love them. I'd put them around my patio & garden and be working outside until 10:30 pm in the Summer!! Merry Christmas from Maryland, Jerry!

I went thru a divorce that was not my idea and was in a dark place but was able to fulfill my dream of living on a farm . I retired from my job in the big city and bought a 25 acre farm ,living in a big old farmhouse built in 1900 and actually not far from u in NW PA. Gotta love this way of life huh, God bless all
I stumbled upon this video, love the song, thank you for sharing the lyrics,. Love the lanterns. We have a handful of hurricane lantern that include some Dietz and fuerhand. Thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable video. I grew up in the house my great-great grandfather built, probably about 1917. The house had a lovely brass three burner angle chandelier, plus one of same design, but single-burner wall-mounted angle lamp. I don't think I've ever seen another angle lamp in my country (South Africa), and certainly never seen globes available. It's a pity because they are still in great shape and I'd love to use them. Your video inspires me to keep looking. From your newest subscriber.

@@logcabinlifestyle absolutely not a problem sir. Love your life style
We have a very old Aladdin no 7 , a big tall mantle burner, tube wick burner. We used it during a ice storm power outage where we didnt have power for days, and i had no idea that lamp was like area heater, it was a pleasant surprise how it heated up our entire kirchen area and it makes such bright light,it looked like a coleman. But we used a lot of oil lamps for days. We have a gas furnace but the electric runs the blower,so im still trying to get time to modify the furnace for emergency power outages. I just chopped wood and we ran our fireplace and it warmed up the big great room if the house and we had oul lamps in other rooms and we never had any problems with waterlines freezing as i kept a big oil lamp running in the basement. I want to put in a little woodburner in the basement at some point for energency use and just for taking the chill off and the heat can rise up into the other rooms on the side of the main loadbearing wall that hinders getting the fireplace warmth over there to bedrooms. Im getting interested in lamps and lanterns again as i started getting these recommendations and it got me pondering on working on my old lanterns again and looking for a big ol dietz style lantern. I just don't have time for everything i want to build and restore and fix. Lol
I am encouraged to see you sitting in your cabin in a t-shirt. I woke up to -6 this morning with 35 mph winds. You look cozy while my furnace is struggling to keep the house at 65 deg. I'm in Wayne County. Definitely a 3 dog night.

Found your channel two nights ago. I'm currently building an off grid cabin 16x32 almost exactly like yours with taller side walls. Lp heater in my wall the my wall tent will need a tank swap soon so I'm up late. Was 10 here in Texas. Haven't seen negatives yet, kind of used to cold, my years living in Ohio among the Amish kind of changed my view on many things. Nice lamps! Beautiful home. Merry Christmas!

Aladdins are the best! 50 candle power and they never lose their value. I have two. I like Lehmans 🔥🔥 double wick oil lamp. Always keep oil in your lamp and I'm not talking Aladdin :-) Always shine your light Jerry.
I love lamps too and use them at my little cabin. I just bought an old style hanging lantern like the one hanging in this video. Like the ones they had in the saloons with the reflector/shade. it was converted to an electric lamp but il try to convert it.
Howdy Brother- those are beautiful old lamps! I’ve never seen those kinds before. Sorry to hear about your little cabin. Hope it didn’t do much damage to the roof. Our temperatures dropped rapidly here on Thursday. I was smoking some goodies in the smoke house and certainly didn’t have to worry about it getting too warm. All I do is the old time cold smoking. Merry Christmas to you and your family. God bless y’all

i have been looking into antique oil lamps, and found out that at least here in Europe we used brass or copper topcovers to catch the heat from the lamps chimney
I use the decorate type glass oil lamps in my tiny cabin as well. I love the light they put off. And when the wood furnace is burning, it’s very nice.

Nice lamps. As others have said make sure you slowly warm up the Aladdin lamp for approximately 10 minutes or you stand a chance of the chimney cracking. Turn the flame up until the mantle barely lights up then let it sit like that for 10 minutes or so. Then you can turn it all the way up. Aladdin has several videos on youtube on lighting. Glad to hear you found your way.
Lovely video Jerry and Merry Xmas from Oxfordshire UK. I collect oil lamps too but never found angle lamps here. I found 4 Miller lamps ( two Junos and two Vestals) but never an angle lamp. Presumably they weren’t exported to Europe…I’ll just have to fly over and find one to complete the collection!

I have a Dietz Little Giant. Embossed on the the metal chimney holding the glass globe is stamped "stolen from the City of PGH."
We just warmed up today from four days and nights of as low as -43F due to windchill and daytime highs of -27F with windchill of -32F, but praise God today was 29F and tomorrow is forecasted to be 38F. We are in south central Montana
I’m glad you chose to not to separate the globes from their original frames. I recently obtained an original new old stock Deitz lantern but just need to add oil to the tank.Any recommendations on which brand i should use for it? Thank again.
Having been an antique-er for 30 years & never having seen any lamps exactly like yours; I was curious enough to do a google search: "Aladdin Lamp" - which I don't think youtube allows me to copy. from the site, they wrote ~ "If you want to see lamps like this in person, be sure to make a trip to Kidron, Ohio to the Aladdin Museum of Light located inside Lehman’s." But not even the Aladdin Museum in your home state had any in their online Gallery, like yours. Rare finds? 💡Edit - a google image search for "Angle oil lamp" yielded a wide array of super interesting lamps like yours. This little sleuthing expedition has been an enlightening discovery process. 😆🤣🤣 thank you, as always for spreading your light, my friend. 🎄

@@logcabinlifestyle thanks. I know they can burn many things and wasn't sure if lamp oil was better.
hello, I'm very new to oil lamps and have seen most videos recommend blowing out the oil lamp by blowing at the top of the chimney, would it be bad to just turn the wick down so low the flame goes out? I hear people (who have never used an oil lamp but the fact that everyone says this to me is still concerning ) say that the wick will fall into the oil reservoire and cause it to explode, is this true?
@logcabinlifestyle
Жыл бұрын
I turn mine down until the flame is almost out and then blow into the air intake not the top. Is it possible for the wick to fall inside? Sure but it would never explode. Oil is not explosive. It could however burn inside for a very short time before it would run out of oxygen. I think you blow them out more to be sure they are out and not burning very low. I had that happen one time. After a few days I noticed it was burning from across the room in the dark

What kind of oil for the lamps do you use, sir? I bought myself an oil lamp too....and got some purified oil with it. But purified oil is very expensive. There is some other petroleum....unpurified... but it has a very deep smell. I dont mind the smell but I am worried the smell might be toxic. Especially for the bird I keep in my house. You have a lot of oil lamps....using the purified oil for them all would cost you a lot of money per month.

Oh i completely forgot one of points that i wanted to mention about that tall chimney Aladdin type ya have. Our big Aladdin still had the spark guard crown for the top of the chimney, you might want to look for one of those for yours. I dont know if it will help with the heat radiation out the top, it might reduce it down shorter, idk, but i know on ours it gets pretty hot on there and helps radiate heat when its cold. Ya just have to clean rhe screen on the crown guard every so often as the suet builds up from the fumes as it deposits the solids in the smoke on it.
