Oil change missed and engine ruined ? Land Rover Life... / S5-EP17

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We own 2 and a half Land Rovers. Christian´s Range Rover L405 "Queen", my Discovery 3 and our new "Prince Mall-Crawl" Discovery 4 SDV6, which is in pieces right now because of a engine rebuild/repair. There are allways little things we need to do just to keep up with maintenance, small modifications and repairs.
In this episode, we:
- Install window rain guards
- Change oil on the LR3 and check for chips
- Replace window trims
- Modify the satnav screen
- Do lift maintenance
- Fix a wind noise on the Range Rover L405
- Explain a air intake design fault on the SDV8 L405 Range Rover
- Install a bonnet-latch switch to cure the alarm triggering
- Install all terrain tires
- Mount our LR4 chassis to a chart for manouvering
And more. Just a few tiny things...
Please remember, we are not liable for any harm you do to your car, your engine, your surroundings or yourself. Use the information given in this video at your own risk. Divorce cost / wrecking expenses are also not covered by us.

Thank you for planning to weld the old block - even if it is an offline attempt. Better to have tried and failed than not tried. I also think it showcases the skills of an artisan - and these craftsman are undervalued by our throw-away society (presently). You could always weld your signatures into it as well. That way, it isn't a repaired block - it is a "Signature LR Time Block"! Worth substantially more. Thanks for the great content and clear explanations.

Sorry, last comment. A quick couple of tips. 1/ use motorcycle chain oil on your car lift chain. It’s very “sticky” compared to normal it won’t get washed off by water. 2/ regarding the bubbles in the drivers side door card, try cutting up some reflective adhesive tape roughly the same size as that end piece. If you can’t fix it then disguise it with another purpose - safety. That’s all.

I’ve had General Grabber AT3 on my older Ford Ranger. They are not my favourite tyres, distinctly lacking in traction compared to current factory fit road biassed’ Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT [presumably meaning Highway Terrain]. I know this for certain because I purchased a new take-off set of wheels and tyres and fitted them to the old truck. I am a grassland farmer and the difference is pronounced and I was initially worried that the difference would be the other way around. They also have good rim guards, where the rubber protrudes well beyond the alloy rim, which prevents curbing.

Great tip to explain about the pond foil. I was wondering for a few months what that was once I saw it was there in all your episodes after the lift install. I guessed it was EPDM rubber, which I knew only as a roof covering, 1,2mm is common. Pond foil is also this EPDM, 1mm. By coincidence just yesterday I bought two large offcut pieces! They can now sit like a magic carpet under the car in my (driveway) work location. So any oil or fluid spill does not give me sudden heart attacks. Also the wind does not blow it away as it is slightly heavy. Yours is one of the best diy car channels, and also, keep the German humor coming!

On your explanation of why you were not going to ( seriously) attempt to weld the Gen 2 fractured block, I now fully understand your reasons for not doing it and support your decision! By all means down the line try to weld the 4 cracked or broken walls for as the Aussies say shits and giggles and we all will be interested in the results. I hope you soon manage to get hold of a decent Gen 2 block for your Disco4. Looking forward to see you both next week. Cheers from England!

Hey I’m really glad you are going to try to weld it. No harm no foul if it doesn’t work! But it will be an awesome video!!!!!

Happy Sunday guys. Absolutely love how much you two love that old land rover! New cam looks great by the way. (sorry I didn't have any snarky comments this week 🤣😂)

Great vid as always. The window seals are called waist seals (in the UK, don't know why, seems weird) Thanks for sharing 👍🏼

Wind Deflectors - always fit them so I can crack a window open in the rain and they move the turbulence further back and largely get rid of the air pressure hammering with a fully open window. When crossing the centre of Australia, we had a triple filter in series made from a certain size toilet rolls and changed them every 5 days

Yes, I fitted wind deflectors so that I could leave the windows open enough for the car to breathe when sitting on hot or wet days here in Corsica. But they were too noisy when on motorways back on the Continent. Your stick on ones may be more streamlined (if they stay stuck) than our Italian ones which located in the window channel. And I had to mod them to allow mirrors to fold all the way!

Your videos are what I look forward to every Sunday morning. Recently had an accident and it totaled my LR3. The damage isn’t bad, but the cost to fix is high. Don’t worry, I’m already looking for another LR3 or this time an LR4.
