Van Halen is one of the best 80s band ( alot of people refer to them as Van Haggar when David Lee Roth left as the front man).. The original singer David Lee Roth was a showman, entertainer and the women went crazy for him! They headlined the Monsters of Rock tour in 1988 (with Kingdom Come, Metallica, Dokken and Scorpions). It was nice having Sammy in the band. An extra guitar to cover the overdubs from the albums, great vocals, coolest dude ever and Van Halen played some Sammy Hagar tunes!

The original singer had an awesome energy, playful and mischevous. He really had the fun part figured out. The Sammy era was a bit more grown up, and as a whole the band saw more success with Sammy on lead.

This is after David Lee Roth was asked to leave and replaced by Sammy Hager who had a successful solo career and sang with Montrose. I don't mind the Sammy version but you really ought to check out Eddie's famous ", Eruption solo

I saw Sammy Hager with his solo band when he warmed up for (the Band) Boston's 2nd Album in 1980. Boston was great and sounded just like their albums, but Sammy brought the FIRE! Someone once said of him that it's like being at a Party and a Concert breaks out! :-)

After firing Sammy Hagar, Van Halen was considering hiring Sass Jordan to replace him as lead vocals. She thought it was odd for a woman to sing, Hot For Teacher, and told them it would be a mistake. After discussing it with a mutual friend, he assured her she made the right decision, and that is when Van Halen ultimately hired Gary Cherone.., who he managed. Other comparison songs of Sammy Hagar is his solo - "I Can’t Drive 55" or from Montrose - "Bad Motor Scooter" or "Rock Candy" (20+ years in between).

Singer Sammy Hagar replaced original vocalist David Lee Roth in 85. it would be fun to take you back even further to Van Halens 1st album when the band was HUNGRYYYY and came out of the studio with sounds & songs that dropped jaws all over the World. The original lead singer of this band was David Lee Roth. He was with them from their start up until 1985. A few of their songs I would suggest with him on vocals would be "Runnin' With the Devil", "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", "Jump", and "Panama", to name a few.

My favorite band. Edward always writes a good proper intro and finish to his songs. He does a good job of changing keys in a very natural way too. "I'm the One" from the first album with the first singer, David Lee Roth. That song is the kind of music this band is specifically known for, and Ed is one of the few people that can play that style of music properly.

So, this is actually Van Hagar. To explain, I think the way the story goes, is that Eddie Van Halen had been a child prodigy that played classical piano, and then at some point, he just picked up one of his older brother Alex's, the drummer, guitars, and went on to become one of the greatest guitar players to ever live. Originally, Van Halen, from the 70s and the first half of the 80s, had David Lee Roth as the lead singer. Who was one of the best front men of that era. Then David left, I guess. I don't really know the back story to how it went down, but word on the street is that Eddie and Alex kept very tight control over the band. I mean, the band is called Van Halen, and it was their ship. My guess is that Eddie was the timid and sensitive but also wild and troubled musical genius, and Alex was the muscle that was extremely loyal and protective of his little brother, and that can be smothering if your not one of the two of them in the band. So, they replaced David with Sammy Hagar, who you saw here, and who had been from the band Montrose as well as having had a solo career, which brought Van Halen a second life. People jokingly refer to this second version of Van Halen as "Van Hagar". Both versions are good in there seperate ways. They got rid of Sammy after like ten years. There had been a third version after that with Gary Cherone from the band Extreme, btw check out their song "More Than Words", but I think by that point no one was really paying attention anymore, and it didn't really work out. Then there were periods where they'd tour with Sammy again, then David again, and I think one tour with both. Then they just pushed out poor sweet Michael Anthony, the bassist, who had always been loyal and did what he was told, so they could replace him with Eddie's son Wolfgang. Since then, Michael has been playing in a couple different new bands with Sammy Hagar. Anyway, all the old-school Van Halen is great! Stick with it if you want to. "Hot For Teacher" is a good one with a classic fun music video you'll have to see. For the Van Hagar, check out "Right Now", which also has an interesting video that's worth seeing, and "Poundcake" and "Dreams".
