I love the Wrecker. He started with a tape measure and some steel stock. Welded on a lot of found objects, and stuff made from more steel stock. And here we are. Not bad for a man with no idea what he was doing.

It was great meeting Matt and crew on trail. Jennifer really got a kick out of getting a tug from the wrecker. The wrecker is truly something to behold on trail, very impressive! But what truly impressed me was how quickly you got this edited and uploaded! By the time we were off trail we were being sent screenshots of our cameo appearance! woohoo KZread almost famous! Matt and team are just as personable and friendly as they appear on these vids, awesome family and team! We thank you.

I still need to watch the entire thing but I saw up to my part. 😁 It was great meeting you and the crew. And thanks again for the little tug, as well as the t-shirt. I wore it today. 👍 It was definitely a surprise finding you guys behind us. Thanks for all you do! (And our tires were 35s. 😂) OK, I got to watch the rest of the video and damn! Talk about a job! This has to be in the top 5 videos ever. Beautiful scenery. Teamwork that rivals the gold nugget recovery. A few observations; 1. Caitlin and Collin are smart, attentive and focused. They take direction well. 2. The wrecker is a formidable machine. I can't think of a tougher or more nimble civilian vehicle. 3. Matt is a natural leader. I loved how he left it to the youngins and guided them through the obstacles as a great leader does. Patiently giving clear instructions. Never losing his attention to how he approaches them in his requests. Just fantastic teamwork in a situation that was rife with opportunities for it all to go south. Lastly, the wrecker eating up the soup bowl was epic. Made it look easy. What a machine. A great way to spend an hour. Thanks again for top notch content.

Matt and crew I am a bit of off roader also because I am in charge of 82 people that run a search and rescue here in the Tampa area for the entire state of Florida. I have to fight the sand all the time because of the beaches here BUT no rocks per say. All that being said of all the videos you have done over the years I would have to say this was the most professional and dangerous rescue you have done to date. With all the cameras and help you had it was an ineradicable video and recovery. You are right that the video is 50 minuets but the actual rescue took hours (been there and done that more than one time over 25 years) Tell the crew great job and you owe them all new shirts and the cost of laundry for all the work the did. As for the tail gate if it were mine I would be proud to keep it as is and I would have a magnetic sign made that I would post on the bent gate that would say something like "I took on the RUBICON TRAIL and all I got was this tail gate) . I would be proud to have made it as far as he did and would want the world to know that at least I tried. It should be something he should be proud of. Again tell the crew what a great job they did as well as all the volunteers that pitched in to make this happen. This is going to be a hard video to top all other recoveries will look tame if anyone has seen this one first. Everyone stay safe and thank you for all the work you put out there

I love seeing Katelynn use her skill from competitive rock crawling and apply it to the work she is doing with MORR. What she did here on the Rubicon, in a complicated beast of a machine, doing a very difficult task, for several hours, shows that she is a huge asset for the team. Plus...this young woman just SPARKLES!! Her cheerful presence and clever retorts (about using the rear-steer for example) is great fun for us watching the videos. Shoutout to Kaulin for "bassackward" skills in the recovered vehicle, and to Kolby for getting to have some seat time on his bucket-list Rubicon trail (all fun and games until the bucket kicks you; sorry about your rolled ankle ... ouch!). If that tailgate still opens/closes. I'd leave it and have a story to tell when anyone asks about it. Hats off to Matt, Katelynn, Koulin, Kolby, and the local veteran who grabbed some stunning aerial footage of that beautiful scenery. "If you love what you do. You won't work a day in your life."

The wrecker is poetry in motion. It just keeps crawling along no matter the terrain without even breaking a sweat. It can even pull a lot at idle and sometimes in just 2 WD. I watched it being created from the day they started cutting out the frame rails and welding them together. Can you imagine just how proud of it Matt has to be? I remember the XJ with a kinetic rope (is what started it all) before it became the Banana. Then came the Lakewood wagon into the shop that became the mighty Morrvair, which has the best sound when working and digging. What a fleet! I was waving my arms when I started seeing the tailgate getting thrashed but I guess you didn't see me. Oh well, it adds character and reminds him of the adventure.

Colby had his dreams come true, driving the Morrvair, on the Rubicon Trail which was another dream come true. He's so happy his ankle only hurts when he breaths. Matt the master of ppl off road recovery did it again on the most visible Trail in the western U.S. The wrecker he designed and built was on the Rubicon Trail doing a job no one else wanted. The total visibility of this recovery is probably get more views than any other recovery. The whole video shows the greatness of him and the wrecker. Colin's role in this recovery was beyond belief, he kept the truck right side up and saved the sides of the truck with his driving and braking. Katlin learned how to drive the wrecker on the job. With Matt's guidance she was able to put the wrecker in the safest spots giving Colin a better chance of backing that truck off the trail . All of the three California jobs I am aware of have shown Matt, the wrecker, and his team successfully recover each vehicle. That's 100% / perfect for out of state recoveries. And don't forget New Mexico...

It confounds me, we always used an old swing set tube and ran a chain through it. You don't tow/pull with it, just prevents the vehicles from kissing. You could make a simple drawbar the drops into your pintle with a hoop on the opposite end to chain, strap or monkey knot to the vehicle. One of these days, a swinging vehicle may pull your tail end off a trail and over a cliff. Just my 2 cents worth of observation watching videos this morning. Keep up the good work, stay safe.

The Rubicon has changed so much over the years, back in the 70s when I first ran it, the only rigs that could make it were Jeeps, old Scouts, early Broncos, FJ40s and Nissan Patrols or the like. The passage between trees and boulders were so tight no wider vehicle could even get started on the trail. I went over the trail many times in the 70s with an FJ40 with 1100 15 Tru tracks by Armstrong, and no lockers or lift kits, only had very basic rock sliders and we learned to shield our tail lights with armor. Many rigs took heavy damage, that was common, altho I was lucky(?) with the Toyota. BTW stock 6 cylinder with only a "Man A Fre" kit on it. THere was no "Soup Bowl". The main thing I remember was the "Big Sluice" and the "Little Sluice" and the dreaded Cadilac Hill going out. Fun times.

After watching several recoveries, where you had to toe the injured vehicle off the trail, and having toed myself long ago, it is my 2cents, that you need to rig up some kind of "TOE BAR". Safer, prevent further damage and more predictable. But make it a Mat's Recover Toe Bar. Hydraulic rams, works with the receiver, and other Mat's Madness stuff. The Wrecker is a beast. Capable of driving almost anywhere any, off roader truck can go. You built this thing basically from scratch and it is a true testament to Mat's Engineering. Just Awesome!!

Congrats on building the wrecker Matt and team. I don’t think that machine has still been tested to its full limits yet.

If you guys ever do any "best of" or "roundup" videos, you've got to put that original TomTom 11% calculation clip in there. You've gotten so much mileage out of that, I love it.

Its so impressiv how good Kathlyn is in all the rigs and her enthusiasm towards the trail and what all the rigs are capable of. On top of that we have this wonderful giant of father and crew chief with his mindblowing simplistic and functional ideas of how to solve a crime like situation and how to tackl the terrain. I'm once again impressed by the content you guys provide! Everybody on your team is just one kind person after another.

Rubicon = go till you break something. Because you will break something. As a high schooler, a neighbor had an Old School Land Cruiser. He rigged it out with a welder and would go up and ride the trail and make money welding people and vehicles back to safety.

Oh wow this is by far the most amazing video from Matt's Off road recovery yet! It has everything in it drama, suspense, fun, awe inspiring scenery and so many awesome people involved in this filming. Matt, Kaulin, KateLynn, Kolby were all awesome at what they were doing getting this Nisson recovered. Good video!

Are you kidding me Caitlin!?!?!? What a badass job you did. I’ve done the rubicon before and it’s relentless just driving a vehicle through it. Towing an another vehicle through it????? Nice work you guys!

Only just seeing this as I've been away. My brother lives in Tahoe. He has a yellow Unimog and, though it's not his job, he's done a few rescues on the Rubicon. Awesome

Katelynn's MORR personalty perks up on the Rubicon trail and swimming in lake Tahoe. Matt's a little girly man in the cold water. Thanks for the channel Matt! Your whole family is awesome. Keep up the good work. Loved this episode!

That was Loon Lake. Great trout fishing there when I was a kid. You watched to see where the bald eagles were diving, and that's where you went.

Matt, you showed a lot of leadership in having the young members driving. Your experience as a spotter was put to a test. This is one of the best videos you have ever made. Slow and steady wins the race!!!!

Matt is the ultimate boss... He sees his workers as a greatly valued team and treats them as such! Letting Kolby drive his dream-come-true trail; giving up the wrecker seat so Kaitlyn can run it on the hardest trail ever; treating Kaulin as an equally skilled recovery leader....Doesn't get any better than that! Matt is da man, and his team is the greatest!! :-)

This is the most awesome recovery for the wrecker a great run for the Morrvair and Colby. What a great job Caitlyn did running the wrecker. For me, this and the Golden Nugget stand out as the best recovery videos. You can now say that the Wrecker and the Morrvair are "Rubicon Rated"!
