At 19 it seems likely Gautier's parents might have something to do with it, like Liam said about Lindros. Torts would be a problem with me, but this kid grew up with hockey coaches being tough on him. I've heard that players like Torts.

What about him? I addressed it on the show. He blew it by not reporting to Quebec in my opinion but he got the most out of his career regardless. What Gauthier did is not new but it's rare. Fortunately most are fine with the process.

I think it's easy for us to criticize young NHL players in these situations but if we were "forced" to report to work for someone that we didn't want to work for, we'd have a different opinion. If free agency in the NHL was available at an earlier age for players and less restrictive I think that would help these "unhappy draft" situations for players.

Suck it up. It's big business where one long term contract can set you up for life. Live where you want 10-12yrs later when you retire in your 30s as a multi millionaire. Believe me, the current rules will not change.

The NHL is built to favour the owners... after all without them there is no team and opportunity for players. Period. All players have the option within the CBA to sit out or go elsewhere in the world to play, so there is that. Professional hockey is BIG Business ...not as big as Football, Baseball, Basketball ... anything with a "ball" in the name. I think if the NHL wants to grow. Renaming it Hockey Ball is the way to go. :)
