Officially starting the Rat Rod Build Off by stripping down the old RV (C50 part 1)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Officially starting on the Rat Rod Build for the Rat Rod Magazine Build Off 2024. It all begins with stripping down what we don't need on the P30 frame and drivetrain. Lot's of good stuff to be had off this old RV but also a lot of junk, so we thought of a creative way to strip it down.

Having torn a few RV's apart, I'm not surprised. You just have to rip and tear until its small enough bits to tear out.

Ive been waiting for this! Those 709 sanden ac compressors that came on like everything in the 90s are cheap and easy to convert to air compressors. We'll be doing a video on it pretty soon on the Colorado Grown channel. You could repurpose that propane tank that was in there to an air tank so it doesnt go against your budget!

Looking forward to the continuing adventure of the build. Take Care

@@HardCoreFabI have an old motor home I plan to make into a pipe truck [not a rat rod, but an ugly old tool rig with a central boom, outriggers and a tool box] but I plan on lifting the whole upper off mine and setting it on blocks like a guest cabin, with the option of putting it on a smaller trailer and towing it to job sites. Mine is on a Dodge M300 chassis, 1972 with a 413, but I'm actually hoping to remove the 413 and put a custom built 3500 horsepower turbine motor in it. That would allow me to go all wheel drive on Dana 90's and go anywhere and haul anything and either put it up, or take it down.

Works great for cutting! It's the cheapest way to cut. The only thing to keep in mind is if you are doing a bunch of heating the LP does burn a bit cooler.

Are those ten lugs, 7.25" bolt pattern, 19.5-inch wheels on it? I am looking for seven of them.

So was LMAO and thinking that looks fun trying to rip it apart with the truck. Then Julie chimes in about it seeming like a guy thing and was thinking how right she was. Seriously though glad the weather finally made it possible. Was starting to think you where really going to be pressured for time. Nice to see some progress! Still like Sleepy Hauler for a Name.

I had a friend that worked at a mobile home manufacturer years ago. They took used ones in trade. If they were not worth saving they would strip the wiring out and put it in a loading dock with a huge dumpster outside and push everything off with a dozer. They cleanup and repaired the chassis then painted it. They actually had a new one leaving the plant get hit by a train. They sent out the entire work crew and all the equipment they could grab and had it all cleaned up, even raking gravel and putting the grass clumps back in place, before the news media showed up with their cameras. All the had were a few dents and scratches on the front of the train to record. They were not happy. BTW Clean that cutting torch tip and learn how to set the flame better. That thing is cutting like crap. I see it all the time. Back in shop class 37 years ago I had to yell at the auto shop teacher. I had a year of metals and a year of welding and he was doing the same thing. He was struggling so much he told me and another guy to "finish it" for him. It took a while to actually find the tip files, but with those and a file I cleaned up the tip, set a natural flame and zipped the body mounts off a frame he was using for a rebuild. I spent less time doing that then he spent trying to just cut off one body mount. It was spitting and banging and going out and cut like crap.
