The Supreme Court decision should be 9-0 in favor of no immunity if the Justices adhere to the constitution. If Nixon was immune, he wouldn't have needed to be pardoned. Clause 7 states, "Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law." However, given the politics it reads & feels more like favoritism by providing Trump, who appointed some, a de facto stay or delay until after the election re: Jan. 6 pending criminal trial case. It shouldn’t matter if it’s a public or private act. No act should be immune. A president SHOULD be afraid of prosecution if they violate the law just as we all are. There is no official act that requires a president to break the law. there is no slippery slope in allowing presidents to be held accountable. There is no such thing as a political prosecution to the extent Trump is arguing because a president can only ever be held accountable if there is actually evidence of a crime. You need evidence to convince a grand jury to issue an indictment. You need evidence to avoid the case being thrown out by a judge. You need evidence for a jury to hand down a guilty verdict. You need evidence to avoid an appeals court overturning the verdict. there is no scenario where anyone can target their political opponents with the justice system and get away with it in our country despite the Supreme Court claiming to be concerned about it happening. there is a reason every other court has rejected this argument.

Charles made the only statement that matters to this severe issue. The fact that the supreme court’s discussion with the parties of this proceeding never stated the fact of this case. And that is the fact that the federal department of justice has brought this case using the same legal framework as it uses to prosecute any other individual with criminal acts that have broken any laws that we’re governed under! The court has no jurisdiction to interfere in any criminal prosecutions that have not occurred before a court of law that has ruled on the issue! If no trial has been conducted that has come to some conclusion to assure that the defendant was ever held accountable!! This is not a fair and reasonable prosecution of a criminal offense that is conducted in the same manner that has been made in any prior court proceedings!! And the Supreme Court has created a miscarriage of justice that has significantly compromised our nation and the judicial branch of being equally fair when it comes to protecting political and powerful individuals!

I'm feeling like the time has come for legal professionals, professors, legal journalists, et al, to explain to the public the process for impeaching a SCOTUS justice. The case of Clarence Thomas is long overdue for scrutiny, and perhaps Alito, not only for relying on opinions and statements so old that they can only be described as obscure, antiquated, and irrelevant, in addition to plain old shameless corruption on the parts of both.

I am well aware that our Supreme Court leans more right than left. I believe that in order for the justices to reach a fair presidential "absolute immunity" conclusion, they should more closely evaluate the balance of power of the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judicial branches of U. S. Government. If any one president is granted legal, absolute immunity, that opens up a tsunami of flood gates that we have never seen before, and it will surely imbalance the powers that presently govern the United States because the president could, and would, do whatever he pleases because he/she would have more power than the other 2 branches of government. Therefore, I believe that the president is NOT above the laws of the land. I am not a lawyer, but I am voicing my 2 cents as a concerned citizen. USA 🇺🇸 It does not take legal scholars to understand this issue. The argument of "absolute immunity" is most definitely a no-brainer, and it is a waste of taxpayers' dollars.

When President Trump took office and McConnell served as Senate majority leader, Trump had more than 100 vacancies to fill in the lower courts, including 17 in the U.S. courts of appeals - all of them lifetime appointments. The Supreme Court hears around 80 cases a year, while the courts of appeals handle tens of thousands of cases annually - often making them the last word in most cases that impact the lives of Americans. “[McConnell] has calculated, correctly, that most of the most contentious issues in our society eventually wind up in the courts,” conservative columnist and author Mona Charen told FRONTLINE in a 2023 interview for McConnell, the GOP & the Court. “It is critical, if you want certain outcomes, to be sure that you have the right mix of judges.” We must vote NO to Trump.
