Off the Record Presents: Joe Bussard
In the second installment of Off the Record Presents, we make the record-collector's version of the pilgrimage to Mecca vis-à-vis Joe Bussard's wonderful basement! Owner of one of the finest collections of prewar country, blues, and jazz records in the world, the late Mr. Bussard was one of the most famed and accessible names in the 78rpm world for generations.

He made me appreciate the music on 78’s more than ever before? His collection was second too none. Not even the US National archives has, what he had. Miss you Joe Bussard. 1936-2022.
May he be blessed with all the needles, cartridges, playback systems and records in the world.
Rest in peace joe! He was an inspiration to all 78 collectors, Jazz or country.
RIP, Joe; you were an inspiration to all of us and a wonderful soul.
Those damn Everly Brothers! Oh my God. RIP Joe.
Joe is my version of an American music historian. He is amazing and beyond his years by far.
Fantastic. Made my way here after reading a New York Times obit on him. RIP Joe.
RIP Joe, you inspired so many of us to keep and enjoy those old records that the family wanted us to toss out.
Farewell, Joe ! Off to that great big record room in the sky. Thanks for all that you taught us.
Joe Bussard a national treasure the man who saved an era of music that would have been lost in time like tear drops in the rain he deserves a major award of recognition.

Good times!!
Thanks for including the music credits at the end.
Blinking hell, came upon this by chance. What a fantastic collection of 78s, I'm not jealous ☹️
"That's when I stained my underwear" - the reaction to the ultimate find.
Thanks for this! As a fellow 78 collector, Joe has always fascinated me. I'd gladly watch any outtakes you have from this.

Fantastic job. Spent a day in Joe's basement about 15 years ago. He's every bit as amazing and rare and fun to listen to as his 78's.

It's fascinating that's there's young and old people that like those shellac records still. I don't have the proper equipment to play them.

It's an Altec Lansing made in the 1960's. I believe the model is called a Laguna.
An Awesome video, love this style of music, and thy sound so great on a good 78rpm player.

I think it's a Technics SP-15, or something similar, with a custom tonearm.
Can anyone tell me what that rollicking little number is that he plays around 7 mins into this video?
