In Australia we use a sand boat anchor, works great.

Good video, we use a similar setup in loose loamy soil and mud. We use 3 rods set in a line or like a Y and connect them with 2-24” 1/4x3” flat iron with holes on both ends so when connected it makes a solid pulling point. ._._. Keep up the hunt!

Thanks and yes it is! I used to live only a few miles from the area, it is called the Wet Mountain Valley. There are some old mines I found about 20 years ago up further in the canyon where I did the demonstration. I just haven't had the time to go back and find them again. Lot's of monster bucks in the area.

Thanks, good setup. I have heard of "sand anchors", not sure if they sell those anymore. Looks like a nice day to be out. A come-along is a cheap emergency device to pack if you are not ready to step up to a winch yet.

Hi Adam. Hope you had good luck on your last adventure. I had thought about the come-along, but the idea of being that close to the action and cranking on that thing kinda gave me the spooks. I didn't like the idea of my face/head being that close in the event something broke (cable, pin and etc) and I would get whacked in the head by flying debris. I hang out sometimes on a Jeep forum and a guy on there watched the video and recommended the Anchors you talk about. They look awesome and probably way safer than the stake I use, LOL. I have added a link to the Anchor in the description. It's called "Pull Pal" and looks really cool.

where did you find the bag that you carry in the back. really good size and looks well made

Hi Doug, if I remember correctly I believe I bought that bag at a store called, Basin Sports in Vernal, Utah. It is very well made and a perfect fit for the small area I have back there.

I saw a video where there was a fatality when a guy used the receiver of the vehicle being recovered, that reciever failed and killed guy in recovering truck. The guy doing the video said you must use the rings because they are stronger than reciever, and showed the weight ratings. What are your thoughts?

Sucks about the guy who got killed, but probably just a freak accident IMHO. A vehicles receiver is designed to handle tremendous amounts of thrust and torque. Just think of all the abuse they are taking when you are pulling a boat, camper and etc. Every time you stop and take off again all the weight/action is being channeled through the receiver. The receiver is made of thick metal and secured to the frame, no different then the rings/tow hooks. I'm not really sure what the difference would be. I feel perfectly safe using them for a winch, but that's just me. Good question and thanks.

@@LowBudgetExploration if I remember correctly the guy making video said reciever rated at 10-15,000 and hooks 40,000lbs. Worth an quick investigation.
