Off Grid Wood Working: The Home Made Rocking Chair

We've been spending some quality time with Dave in his off-grid wood working shop building a home made rocking chair. Dave is a master of the pole lathe and hand crafts a lot of wood products, check out his stuff at silvertreewoodworking.ca.
Chairs are definitely Daves' specialty and perhaps the pinnacle of his lineup is the home made rocking chair. Chair making is a craft that was once well recognized, but is currently on the verge of extinction. Dave is trying to bring it new life, and add his distinct style, from his little straw bale, off-grid wood working shop.
Also, we're trying to extort Blazeking, if you could give us a shout out that would be great. #jeffanddaveonfireforblazeking or #daveishotterthanablazeking
The awesome song is "Chopping Wood" from Last Horse Standing, FB = / lasthorsestanding
get the album at: / last-horse-standing-ep
Anyone else out there made a home made rocking chair? off-grid? have a Blaze King? Let us know,

Dave, that chair is beautiful. I have never seen a rocking chair like that....the arms were works of art by themselves. To the spoon makers....great job ladies. Far better than anything I could ever think of doing. And a general comment....in a world where our young people need safe spaces because words hurt boohoo....those Canadian wilderness gals were using razor sharp, high carbon steel implements of death and destruction....and pulling the sharp edges right toward their fingers, hands, and legs....with NO FEAR! No safe spaces needed for those two...or any of the ladies in that family for that matter. Chainsaws, lumber mills, high power rifles, bears and rabid squirrels (are there squirrels in Canada?)....those girls (young women is more correct) are afraid of none of them....but they have respect for those things and use them properly and smartly. I wish we could collect some of their "balls" and inject the safe space wimps with it.

Some real talent there, Dave! I use to play with wood but used machines to make my kids & baby brother wooden toys when they were young. I made a couple of 5 pc. trains & train tracks, bulldozer, biplane, helicopter, Things like that. Then hand carved some store signs for some of the shops in Albion, Michigan. Like the barber shop with a barber pole on it. The A&W with the A&W Root Bear on it, and Sargents Flowers with roses on it. My exhusband & I made them. Then I also made wedding plaques with a couples hands, putting her ring on and it had flowers and tapered candles in the background, also the couples names and wedding date. I've built things like dog house, chicken coop, and a 4 stall barn with a feed & tack room for my horses. But I've never made furniture.

Greetings ! I have been a follower for a while, I had kinda by chance discovered you,and would seek more videos from you. I have watched all I could find and was more fascinated each time I watched. Finally subscribed last week. You are doing more for those girls than they may know. You and your lovely wife, Rose are preparing these young girls for the world, in a way that will benefit them MORE, than the usual ways that kids are raised! I adore the love ,the involvement and the achievement they are experiencing. It is unusual to see such young kids to be hunters, gatherers, trackers, farmers, builders, butchers, lumberjacks, fisher peoples and everything else !!! It is very exciting to watch THEIR enthusiasm in each adventure. God truly has blessed those young girls, with the good parents they have and the quality of everyday life they have. Keep up the excellent work. Oh yea, Dave, VERY skillful woodworking !!

Excellent woodworking! And the girls did a great job on the spoons! You can never top the look and quality of hand made wood items like these. As a woodworker myself, I absolutely love that the young ones can learn from a Master such as Dave... Thanks for Sharing. New subscriber. Looking forward to future videos.

That chair at a craft fair here in the Dallas Tx area would sell for 3-4 thousand. Probably more. There's one artist that makes one out of Mesquite wood and it sells for twice that. Please tell Dave that his work is amazing. He's a artist and not just a crafts person.

I am not sure to describe Dave as a skilled craftsman or a great artist. Perhaps I will call him both. Another great video guys. Thank you.

The part where Dave is showing off his guns reminds me of that scene from Letterkenny where they are busting on Stewart and say "See the muscle shirt you ordered came today. Muscles coming tomorrow?". Beautiful chair he made. I checked out his site, pretty amazing work all around.
