Off Grid Wilderness Living | EVERYTHING IS FALLING APART - The Truth About Yurt Life - Ep. 89

Off Grid Wilderness Living | EVERYTHING IS FALLING APART - The Truth About Yurt Life - Ep. 89 • Off Grid Wilderness Li... - Jake and Nicole get swamped with multiple things falling apart! Chocolate Thunder, our truck, is falling apart. It needs new brakes, fuel filtration, oil change, and more. Our 4x4 Delica Van blew a coolant container. Mice and Birds have been breaking into our Off Grid Garden and eating all our garlic, sun chokes, and onions. Slugs ate all our marigolds. We are in the midst of creating our off grid washroom, log cabin, and putting away 10 cords of firewood for this winter. We still have a 4kwh solar panel system to instal, fruit trees to plant, and bear fence to put around our yurt! Will we be able to finish all these projects before everything falls apart around us? Subscribe and find out!!!

Adding a winch to your truck would be so versatile. It can recover your stuck truck, pull logs up the hill or if you need to move the logs into the trees, thread the line through a pulley attached to a tree.

Jake you are so clever and you always have good ideas. I've seen someone build a deep wooden box with a small ladder to the side. At the top there is a hole large enough for the mice to fall through. Simply drop some grains at the bottom of the box. The mice can't get out and your garden is saved from destruction.

Put 1/2 inch galvanized wire under your garden and around the bottom of the fence - down to the bottom layer. Now no mole or mouse can get in. If they clime over, put 12 inch aluminum flashing above the wire mesh (on the outside of the fence so they cannot come up the post. Also your plants will do very well with jars, but venting is better. A plastic bottle with the bottom cut off and then leave the cap off. Good work and thanks for sharing your journey.

Get some good heavy chain and a winch or come-along. Pick a good sturdy tree to anchor the come-along to. Wrap the chain end to the log, and use the come-along to drag the log to where you want it. The cost of one is worth it.

I believe that the river with the triangles is the Marble River that drains Alice Lake and Victoria Lake. This is a provincial park and some parkies are trying to repair the riparian zone with establishing certain trees in the flood zone. The triangles are drift wood and are protecting some newly planted tree seedlings. I could be wrong on this one but please consider it a fair guess/

Seeing these images, I remember a phrase often used here in Brazil - when the head does not think the body suffers. If you spend a lot of energy lifting a wooden log to put it in another place, the correct thing would be to put two rollers and the log on top and dragging over the rollers and changing as you move.

Easy way to air layer without having to hang a bucket of dirt is to wet a handful of sphagnum moss or similar water holding material and wrap it around the branch. Take a small strip of aluminum foil large enough to cover the moss and wrap tightly around the moss/branch area. Then wrap that tightly with plastic wrap like saran wrap or similar. Give it about six weeks and cut the branch off below the ball and you have a new plant ready to go.

All of your are assuming he's kept his rear brakes in good working condition. 80% of a car or truck's braking is done by the front wheels, not the rear.. A person who doesn't know cars will not even tell the difference if their rear brakes stopped working one day. Also, when parked, he's using wood chalks under his tires to keep the truck from rolling. That tells me that his emergency brake might have issues keeping the Truck in place. Putting the Truck in low gear is not a good idea if his truck has a habit of stalling instead of idling.

Hi Jake & Nicole, I am a 70 years old retired woman, I want you two youngsters to know that I watch you from time to time with pain,, seeing the enormous straight it takes to do what you're doing,I love to see the determination you have to achieve your dreams, but, take it from me, there is a price you will pay later on in your life, believe it. at 26 years of age I begin working at a Hospital where I was employed for 38 years and I loved it , and like you I did what I had to do to get the WORK done and that was, lifting people that were twice my body weight every two hours I would turn them, sometime small frame persons I would lift them up unto the chairs and set them up for dinner all by myself, I did all that well as required of me, then after many years of repeatedly doing the same thing it took a toll on me, as I reached the age of 50 yrs old I couldn't do it anymore and so needless to say I received months of physical therapy, pain medications galore, and changed the type of work to what I could do, because this happened to me, I hope I can help by shearing my dilemma and save both of you from the same ,your videos are entertaining but they come with a big price, be good to yourselves

Hey, u can reuse the bags of soil. Just add a tiny layer soil back in them and plant some potatoe in them. Once the Plant start to grow leafs just but more soil on. Repeat untill the bag is full to the top. 1 Bag is like 25 Potatoes

Air layering is also known as "marcottage" by orchardists. Great vids, it looks like Western BC is the rain capital of the world and If you could harness insect power you would not have to worry about energy / power the rest of your lives. Certainly is a beautiful area !

Plant mint or get a mint spray and put around it. Mice can't stand the smell. Also go on line and get something called Repels All for the other animals. That stuff stinks to high heaven, but it worked for me.

Cats & dogs are the greatest companions humans can have! Got to love them both! Cats chew up the shoes' laces; the dogs chew up the shoes! Advice, keep them out of their reach! The main difference between Cats and dogs? The cats try to keep the rats away(yours might be doing a better job than you are aware); the dogs try to keep the two legged rats away! In your case the bears! Gotta love these animals! Keep up the great work!

Unbeknown to me caused years stomach problems and compilations.Hard work leads to success although it may kill you on the way. Take care of yourselves. Good luck.

That view at the beginning is breathtaking, the wood chipper looked very heavy to move. Definitely great relaxing video, meaning relaxing for us viewing it 😂😂 you guys were working hard. Can’t get over the view of the mountains that is amazing wish I could live like that to have a job that I can do remotely and just by land and live off grid that would be a dream specially now with so many things going on in the world and in the states.

Where to start! use the leg off an old pair of levis to extend the output nozzle of the shredder this will allow you to work at the input end of the shredder Moving logs is is easily accomplished by looping a rope under the log standing on the end and pulling on the upper end

When I have to move something so much heavier than I, I use dowels or used broom poles anything (even metal rods) to roll something on the ground. it is a lot easier to pull or push something along the ground and I do not get hurt.

Careful with air layering some of the fruit trees. Most fruit trees are grafted onto rootstock that is suited for the local environment to resist particular diseases there. Also, they do this to dwarf the trees so they don't get gigantic. You may want to alternatively order some rootstocks and graft on some of your neighbor's fruit trees. You can also grow your own seedlings and graft onto them. They'll be well-adapted if they thrive. Regardless, always worth a try! Props on being resourceful.

You don't need any buckets. Use the ground itself. Dig a little hole, bend bush branch to the ground and into that hole, pin it down with U-shaped wire and cower with soil. Months later you have nice root system (alot of watering provided in your climate).

Oh oh I can offer an opinion, I make my salad lunch in mason jars ALL the time. Instead of mixing it all up, I have found the best way is to layer it. I put cherry tomatoes at the bottom. Followed by more hearty veggies like peppers peaps and green beans that don't mind the dressing. Then meats and then cheese then lettuce last. So it doesn't get all wilty and shit. And I've kept em that way for almost 10 days. I usually do it Sunday, so I have lunch at work for the week for me and the wife.

That truck brings back memories. Had an old three wheeler car with jamming brakes and stalling/starter problems. Learnt to go into town by shifting down gear and on the hand brake. Put a bit of wear on the hand brake, so parking was a bit tricky as I also needed to bump start the car. All this in the hills. It never occurred to me to drive home in reverse. That was baptism by fire, as I was learning to drive at the same time. In the UK you can drive three wheeled cars on a motor cycle license, which I had. So I got a book on how to drive and taped a few pointers to the dash board.

A small hand operated log arch will take so much effort out of moving logs. Clear a narrow path and just wheel the logs in from the woods. Take a look at atv log arches. Some of them can be used manually. I just looked at pictures on the internet, and welded up one of my own.

Well, I stumbled across this video just now and I flinched when I saw him using the chipper and moving that logs. Has got nothing to do with envy whatsover, I am chasing my dreams and I am determained and good at it. Has more to do with growing up with forest work, cutting trees and so on and seeing how he is endangering himself. I am glad my father taught me proper techniques and to work smart and safe. I have seen and talked to elder men that lost fingers, destroyed their backs because of stupid shit like this. And they are all telling the same story. Would be quiet dumb to not listen. Don't know if he only does this for the looks or not but I hope so, even if that is even much more stupid
