*Puts this in a playlist called “obscure songs from my childhood that have been playing as background music in my head for years and for the longest time, I thought I just made it up, but then I remembered dancing to it as it was being played when I was a child, so I looked up the chorus lyrics and found this”*

the video's aesthetic makes me really happy in a way.. sort of reminds me of the frutiger metro style
This song was included on an MP3 player I was given as a kid in '07. still love it.

Same. It came on my Z Vue 200. Like almost 20 years ago lol. Now from time to time I have to come back to it because it gets stuck in my head 😂
Shout out to my nephew, JD, for turning me onto this 17 yrs ago.
Just last year I got into of Montreal. I thought I had recognized Kevin Barnes’s voice and when I first watched this video it reminded me of Yo Gaba Gaba. I then found out Barnes DID perform a song for the show! I proceeded to go down a rabbit hole and found out not only were they on the show, but bands I listened to with my mom when I was really little like The Killers, MGMT, Apples in the Stereo, Metric, and MCR. It was so great to see I’ve always been so influenced by these indie pop and rock bands!

I had no idea Metric was also on there. That show was amazing. The episode with Jack Black I still sing with my daughter out loud while we rollerblade. 😂 Happiness can come from the weirdest places.

I took my sons then 10 and 16 to an of Montreal show in Arizona. They're now 12 and 18 and huge oM fans. Youngest one has David Barnes' stickers all over his wall and several posters from the albums. Both have signed records and pictures with Kevin. I am the biggest fan tho, but it totally warms my heart to see them embrace the music we listen to. Can't wait for the San Diego show next week! PS. We are also HUGE STRFKR fans and have taken them to their shows too

I was able to find this by Googling "Outback commercial song" because I don't know the actual song title. Unforgettable hook

I used to listen to this song on repeat while robotripping and it took me to a comforting world, my addiction was dark but the moments of joy I got from listening to this were so elevated and treasured Clean now and the song still hits, didn't know it was 18 years old now! Its 4 years old to me
I’ve struggled with anxiety all my life but it’s been particularly bad lately and this song makes me feel like everything will be okay. To me this song is about forgetting about your problems and finding joy in life.
You never hear a fade out of the chorus in music anymore

‘Cured my depersonalization, pog, thanks Of Montreal
This is such a nostalgic song for me. I used to game a lot back in the day and I had a guild member in my guild that introduced me to this song. I would randomly shout "LET'S PRETEND WE DON'T EXIST" in guild chat and he would always shout/sing "LET'S PRETEND WE'RE IN ANTARCTICA" back to me. I miss those days
yeah i bought the movie and the soundtrack came with it, thats how i found this song.. i love it.
The obsession I had with this song and the music video 😭
My dad personaly MET these guys in a forest!... At a concert! Thumbs up if anyone else did!

Really funny to consider of Montreal suing outback after hearing Kevin actually singing “let’s go to outback tonight”
The artstyle of this video is like a combination of the superflat pop and corporate memphis aesthetics. Reminds me of a late 2000s commercial lol
i heard this song in forever 21 a couple years ago, and i was like, "woah, it's the outback song!"
Was my escape song when I was 8 I'm 23 now and I use it to escape still but in a much more positive way
My son has loved this song and video since he was a little boy. A family favorite for sure.
This song makes me want to go to Outback tonight for some reason...

THIS SONG MAKES ME SO FREAKING HAPPY.
I love this video not just because the song is so great, but also because this is an organic time capsule from the first year of youtube. Still in its original 144p, no modern update, no re-release, no new video. Just a pure happy music video from what I remember as a much happier time, perhaps seen through rose-tinted glasses.
This is the best music video in the world.

Let's have bizarre celebrations... let's forget who, forget what, forget where. We'll have bizarre celebrations... I'll play the Satyr in Cyprus, you the bride being stripped bare. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Let's have bizarre celebrations... let's forget when, forget what, forget how. We'll have bizarre celebrations... we'll play Tristan and Iseult, but make sure I see white sails. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Maybe I'll never die, I'll just keep growing younger with you, and you'll grow younger, too. Now it seems too lovely to be true, but I know the best things always do. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica. Let's pretend we don't exist, let's pretend we're in Antarctica.
