OEM Turbo POWER! S2000 Type R Swap K20C1

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

K20C S2000 Swap: Rear Wheel Drive Type R Power
By Brian Gillespie and Aaron Gaghagen
The S2000 is the FR Honda that showed the world that Honda could make an amazing handling rear wheel drive sports car. It came in two flavors: F20 and F22 powered. Both engines were screamers with the redline of the F20 at 9,000 RPM. Honestly, the only criticism of the S2000 was the power. Of course, our friends at Science of Speed agree. They worked with HPD to get brand new K20C engines. Then they developed the rest of the stuff need to get that Type R power to work in the S2000. Hasport Performance helped with the brackets for the two engine mounting options.

    Having driven the white K20C swapped S2000 on the left, I can say its easily the best S2000 I've ever driven (I've owned/driven many many different S2Ks). The K20C is so incredibly smooth in this chassis, and the SOS build quality on this kit makes it feel like the car came with the motor from factory. Hoping to start the same swap on our AP2 soon 🙏

    On the exhaust side? The K24Z on the intake is supposedly the best flowing of all K series heads according to Luke from 4Piston. I'd be surprised if the K24Z isn't better on the exhaust side too. The K20C has deliberately small tumble ports with a step to aid turbo spool-up like most modern turbo engines AFAIK, I'd assume those small ports for fast spool-up are also found on the exhaust side. It's just the nature of a modern factory turbo engine that is designed to have minimal turbo lag, as opposed to a factory naturally aspirated engine that is designed to move lots of air I guess.

    Why do a type r swap when a stock F20/22 engine that is turbocharged can handle over 700whp? Also, the s2000 diff and trans is weak so the type r engine that has high torque at low rpm will destroy the drivetrain. Has anyone been able to make the s2000 transmission stronger and what’s the torque rating?

  • @Shiftlinkage101

    @Shiftlinkage101

    11 ай бұрын

    I agree. I owned an ap1 for about 9 years. The F20 is an amazing engine. The only reason I can come up with why you would want to K20C swap the s2k would be factory turbo reliability. As for the last part of your comment, you would have to do something about the trans and rear end of the "700whp" way before you did the factory K20C. 700whp is going to be pushing way more torque than the stock K20C's at 295 ft/lbs.
